Executive Summary
After reviewing other companies that sell crayons I found that the crayola site is by
far one of the best sites out there that allow for the users to navigate effectively and
provide place for children to interact with the site as well also allow the adults to
find useful crafts and projects for their children to use.
The reason for conducting these reviews was to gain knowledge of how other sites
were able to perform against how the crayola site performs as well as to gain

knowledge to be able to make the crayola site a more competitive site from the
rest.
Methods
The methods I use for ranking each of these sites was to do some simple
navigations through the sites home pages and search engines. I took a look at how
well the home page loaded and how the content on the pages as well as looking at
how easy it was to read the pages. I was also able to see how well the navigation
was to use. Looking at readability, usability, navigation, links and lables gave me
an idea of how well the site worked and an idea on how to create a more accesiable
place for the crayola site as well.

FINDINGS
Listed below is a summary of the findings I have found for each site and what
questions I used to perform my findings:

Home page. How informative is the home page? Does it set the proper
context for visitors? Is it just an annoying splash page with multimedia?
How fast does it load?

The home page is easily accesiable and informative with the products and
information that is needed. It seems to have the proper context for visitiors.
This site has a video that seems to work properly and is not annoying with
many multimedia./ The home page loads pretty well and doesn't take much
time at all to load.
Navigation. Is the global navigation consistent from page to page? Do major
sections have local navigation? Is it consistent?
The global navigation is the same from page to page and does not change.
Each major section has local navigation that is easily accessible and is
consistent throughout the site.
Site organization. Is the site organization intuitive and easy to understand?
The orginaization of this is is intuitive and east to understand. I think for adults.
For children it would need to be worked on a bit to make it easy for them to use.
Links and labels. Are labels on section headers and content groupings easy
to understand? Are links easy to distinguish from each other? Or are they
ambiguous and uninformative ("click here" or "white paper")? Are links
spread out in documents, or gathered conveniently in sidebars or other
groupings?
Each lable is grouped in a way that is easy to understand and naviagte to. the
links are easy to distinguish from each other and the user is able to find them
easily.
Search and search results. Is the search engine easy to use? Are there basic
and advanced search functions? What about search results? Are they
organized and easy to understand? Do they give relevance weightings or
provide context? Do the search results remind you what you searched for?

This page has no search engine on it so it is hard to do any searching for products
that the user might not know where to find them. There are no basic and advanced
search function in this site either/
Readability. Is the font easy to read? Are line lengths acceptable? Is the site
easy to scan, with chunked information, or is it just solid blocks of text?
The font on this site is easy to read and the line lenghts are acceptaible. The site is
very easy to scan through chunked information and easy to read through.
Performance. Overall, do pages load slowly or quickly? Are graphics and
applications like search and multimedia presentations optimized for easy
Web viewing?
Overall the performance of this is very well done. The pages load quickly so you
are not waitng for them to load. The graphics and applcations are optimized for
easy web viewing.
Content. Is their sufficient depth and breadth of content offerings? Does the
content seem to match the mission of the organization and the needs of the
audience? Is the site developing its own content or syndicating other
sources? Is there a good mix of in-depth material (detailed case studies,
articles, and white papers) versus superficial content (press releases,
marketing copy)?
The contenct of this page has sufficient depth of content offerings. The content
seems to match the mission of organization and the needs of the adult aduience.
The children audicence would need to be worked on so that a child may use the
site easily. There are many articles and a good mix of articles, and case studies for
parents to view.

DISSCUSSION AND RECOMMENDATIONS
After reviewing each of these site I would recommend that when re-designing the
crayola site that the team keeps in mind that the site is for, Adults, Educators and
children and that each of these need to be able to find the items they wish to find
with minimal searching in order to be able to do the things they love without
spending too much time looking for them. It is also recommended that a easy
search engine be in place on the site as well so they can search for items without
having to navigate through the site for them. Keeping content easy to read and easy
to navigate is also key to this redesign as well.

  • 3. 3 | P a g e Executive Summary After reviewing other companies that sell crayons I found that the crayola site is by far one of the best sites out there that allow for the users to navigate effectively and provide place for children to interact with the site as well also allow the adults to find useful crafts and projects for their children to use. The reason for conducting these reviews was to gain knowledge of how other sites were able to perform against how the crayola site performs as well as to gain

Methods The methods I use for ranking each of these sites was to do some simple navigations through the sites home pages and search engines. I took a look at how well the home page loaded and how the content on the pages as well as looking at how easy it was to read the pages. I was also able to see how well the navigation was to use. Looking at readability, usability, navigation, links and lables gave me an idea of how well the site worked and an idea on how to create a more accesiable place for the crayola site as well.

How informative is the home page? Does it set the proper context for visitors? Is it just an annoying splash page with multimedia? How fast does it load?

This site has a video that seems to work properly and is not annoying with many multimedia./ The home page loads pretty well and doesn't take much time at all to load. Navigation. Is the global navigation consistent from page to page? Do major sections have local navigation? Is it consistent? The global navigation is the same from page to page and does not change. Each major section has local navigation that is easily accessible and is consistent throughout the site. Site organization. Is the site organization intuitive and easy to understand? The orginaization of this is is intuitive and east to understand. I think for adults. For children it would need to be worked on a bit to make it easy for them to use. Links and labels. Are labels on section headers and content groupings easy to understand? Are links easy to distinguish from each other? Or are they ambiguous and uninformative ("click here" or "white paper")? Are links spread out in documents, or gathered conveniently in sidebars or other groupings? Each lable is grouped in a way that is easy to understand and naviagte to. the links are easy to distinguish from each other and the user is able to find them easily. Search and search results. Is the search engine easy to use? Are there basic and advanced search functions? What about search results? Are they organized and easy to understand? Do they give relevance weightings or provide context? Do the search results remind you what you searched for?

Is the site easy to scan, with chunked information, or is it just solid blocks of text? The font on this site is easy to read and the line lenghts are acceptaible. The site is very easy to scan through chunked information and easy to read through. Performance. Overall, do pages load slowly or quickly? Are graphics and applications like search and multimedia presentations optimized for easy Web viewing? Overall the performance of this is very well done. The pages load quickly so you are not waitng for them to load. The graphics and applcations are optimized for easy web viewing. Content. Is their sufficient depth and breadth of content offerings? Does the content seem to match the mission of the organization and the needs of the audience? Is the site developing its own content or syndicating other sources? Is there a good mix of in-depth material (detailed case studies, articles, and white papers) versus superficial content (press releases, marketing copy)? The contenct of this page has sufficient depth of content offerings. The content seems to match the mission of organization and the needs of the adult aduience. The children audicence would need to be worked on so that a child may use the site easily. There are many articles and a good mix of articles, and case studies for parents to view.

  • 11. 11 | P a g e DISSCUSSION AND RECOMMENDATIONS After reviewing each of these site I would recommend that when re-designing the crayola site that the team keeps in mind that the site is for, Adults, Educators and children and that each of these need to be able to find the items they wish to find with minimal searching in order to be able to do the things they love without spending too much time looking for them. It is also recommended that a easy search engine be in place on the site as well so they can search for items without having to navigate through the site for them. Keeping content easy to read and easy to navigate is also key to this redesign as well.
