Abstract
The increased demand for carbon fiber product in the form of reinforced polymers (CFRP);
chopped fiber (elastomer, thermoplastic, thermoset) accelerates the GENOA software integration
with Altair hyperwork solutions. The integrated package responds to greater need for more
advanced and durable product development in automotive and aerospace industry. The
presentation in details discusses to material modeling of composite type, analysis of laser fusion
3D printing, crush and impact of composite, and finally quest for optimization of shape and
material including effect of defects, and uncertainties in manufacturing processes. In this regard
the GENOA durability and damage tolerance software is integrated with Radios, and Optistruct to
evaluate the structural integrity. The presentation will show case: a) Crush and impact of
chopped fiber using Multi-scale progressive failure dynamic analysis (MS-PFDA)
utilizing GENOA+Radios solution; b) manufacturing automation of composite 3-D
printing of composite structure; c) shape optimization of ceramic fracture toughness
DCB/ENF (Double Cantilever Beam, End Notched Flexure) ASTM specimen; and d)
Robust optimization of material modeling and to predict the fiber architecture effect on
performance of material modeling to predict ( i.e., woven, 5 Harness satin weave (5-HS),
triaxial, stitched architecture).
Keyword: 1) Multi-Scale Progressive Failure Analysis; 2) Optistruct and RAIOSS
integration with GENOA; 3) Robust Design Optimization considering defects and
uncertainties, 3) Damage and Fracture Evolution, 4) ASTM Coupons shape design, 5)
chopped fiber, continuous fiber; 6) crush and impact; 7) Test validation methodology; 8)
automotive and aerospace advanced products
