What is religion? Each person's definition of religion is different. Each person's faith is different.
This is a question that has been asked for centuries, and regardless of the answer given there is no
right or wrong answer. Religion can be defined as a group of people who have shared beliefs who
feel their life has purpose or meaning. This feeling or belief that their life has meaning can come
from outside of themselves, as well as within. Taking this one step further, these shared beliefs put
into action in the form of worship, can be easily identified because they happen regularly. It can be

actions. The fifth feature of religion is grace. Grace is defined by Smith as "the belief and
assurance that reality is on our side and can be counted on." Lastly there is mystery. For this there
is no exact definition, but it is all of what a religion cannot explain, it is all that the human mind
cannot grasp, it is the certain "higher power" that religion offers. Of these six features, there are

Empiricism by nature is the belief that there is no knowledge without experience. How can one
know what something tastes like if they have never tasted it? For example, would someone know
that an apple is red if they have never actually have seen one. Someone can tell you an apple is red,
but, if you never have seen one, can you really be sure?
Empiricists use three anchor points in which they derive their opinions from. The first of these
points is; the only source of genuine knowledge is sense experience. An easier way to understand

Another of the classic empiricists is George Berkeley (1685–1753), who believes that knowledge is
possible. He believed that "it was only through experience and not reason that we have knowledge
of reality" (p.99). The best way to describe what Berkeley was trying to say would be found in
what we call today idealism. Idealism by definition is a position that maintains that ultimate reality
is mental or spiritual in nature. He believed that reality is made up in many individual minds rather
than one cosmic mind. Hence, when Berkeley says that we have an idea of something he is not
necessarily referring to a particular concept but to the experience of our memory of the combined
ideas.
The third empiricist is David Hume (1711–1776) and he does not answer this question as easily as
the first two have. He believes that knowledge is possible but is limited by what we cannot know
about the world outside of our own experience. Since we can only know the contents of our
individual minds, knowledge would and can be different for each person. Hume believes that
sensory data is key for any individual in order to know something is real. For example, if two
people were sitting together, one possessing the ability to see and hear and the other does not,

Gradually, I became more interested in reading English books; I am most interested in modern

The dictionary describes introspection as the examination or observation of one's own mental and
emotional processes. Kevin Woods stated, "Introspection are all about getting to know yourself at
the core, uncovering your values and then deciding for yourself what's the best action to take."
Your emotions and feelings play a major role in why we do things. If we listen to our feelings then
we can find more things about us that we didn't know. This could benefit us and help us appreciate

More and more women are rising to the leadership challenge, even in some of the most
male–dominated industries. The increase in the number of women attending college, the increasing
number of women in the workplace or starting their own business has demonstrated to men who own
businesses that women can be both managers and mothers, thus showing their male counterpart that
women can in fact "do it all".
In this paper the history of women in the workforce will be outlined, as well as the challenges they

Those days have since past. As women are achieving higher levels of education and are being
employed in more prominent positions, their leadership roles in family organizations have
increased. Many young women are refusing to accept the rule of "primogeniture" (Nelton, 1999).
Primogeniture is defined as a birthright or an inheritance. Although women are making great strides
in this arena, there is still the feeling out there that the son should be considered first and the
daughter as a second option, only if there is no son or if the son declines the offer. But, Nelton says
that, "young women by and large feel that if they want to go into the family business, the
opportunity is there." In each of the cases described by Nelton, the fathers encouraged their
daughters to become involved in the family business. As well, each father let his daughter run the
show once she was named CEO–the surest sign of support (Nelton, 1999). In more and more
families and in business in general, gender is becoming not an issue. As roles increasingly change
on the home front, the business world will soon mirror the changes taking place in the family

The fact that all three boys were still moving on without their parents showed that they had a lot
of heart. The two main divisions were between the Greasers and the Socs, and this rivalry led to
many conflicts in the book. Hinton illustrates the divisions and fighting in this quote, "They
caught him and one of them had a lot of rings on his hand that's what had cut Johnny up so badly"
(Hinton 33). Johnny was attacked by four Socs when he was playing with a football at the park.
There are many times in the book where Socs attacked Greasers that were walking alone. Howard
explains the divisions and violence of the gangs in this quote, "Tulsa was one of many American
cities that had seen an increasing division between social classes since World War II, and the
animosity between Greasers and Socs gangs illustrated the extent to which this division between
social classes had permeated society" (Howard 28). The Greasers were seen as the poor outcast
while the Socs were the popular one with all the money. The Socs provoke the Greasers by saying
hurtful things and attacking them so both gangs feel the need to fight to prove that they are better.
Hinton did a good job of portraying the violence and building up to these points and this keeps the

argument has proved to be a valuable asset. The weakest portion of my writing is my lack of good
proofreading. All papers require a significant amount of proofreading not only for grammatical

received on a research paper. I am very satisfied with my grade. When it came to the essays
writing became a little trickier because I had to understand what it was I needed to write about
and the style in which I need to write it in. There are nine essay writing methods which I learned
while attending this course: exemplification, compare/contrast, cause and effect, proposal,
narration, process, division/classification, definition, and argument. The only problems I

one country's gain required another's loss. Thus, each individual country protected their domains and
enterprises against European rivals, preventing their trading allies and their subject people overseas
from trading with their rivals if at all possible. In addition, a colonial possession–whether it was a
factory, settlement colony, or plantation–should provide wealth to the country that controlled it and
was only an appendage of the mother country. In other words, colonies theoretically existed only for
the economic benefit of the colonialist's country.

They told him the house was haunted. They told him the house was strange. Five families had
moved in, and never made it out. Alive anyway. He had already survived two days with his family.
His second night in his new home, what could possibly happen?
A whispered name.
The boy stirs in his sleep. A pale, vaporous moon lights the room. Shadows are deep. He twists his
head, turning towards the window so that his face becomes a soft mask, unblemished, colourless.
But the boy's dream is troubled; beneath his lids, his eyes dart to and fro.

He stands at the door, as if fearing to touch. But he is puzzled. More– he is curious. He twists the
handle, the metal's coldness leaping along his arm like iced energy released from a source. The
shock is mild against the damp chill of his own body. He pulls the door open and the darkness
beyond is more dense; it seems to swell into the bedroom, a waxing shadow. He shrinks away,
reluctant to allow contact with this fresh darkness.
His vision adjusts, and the inkiness scatters as if weakened by its own sudden growth. He advances
again, passing through the doorway to stand shivering on the landing overlooking the staircase. To

Crime refers to many types of misconduct forbidden by law. Crimes include such things as murder,
stealing a car, resisting arrest, possession or dealing of illegal drugs, being nude in public , drunk
driving, and bank robbery. Crime is an act that has been timeless and has been committed practically
since the start of time. For example, ever since Cain killed his brother Abel (B.C.), people being

felonies are crimes for which the punishment is death or imprisonment for more than a year. A
misdemeanor is punishable by a fine or by imprisonment for less than a year. In most states persons
convicted of felonies are sent to state prisons, while those guilty of misdemeanors serve their
sentence in city, or county jails, or correction houses.
Crimes against people include assault, kidnapping, murder, and sexual attacks. Such crimes usually
bring severe punishments. Crimes against property include arson, automobile theft, burglary,
embezzlement, forgery, fraud, larceny, and vandalism. In most cases, these crimes carry lighter
penalties than the crimes set against the person. Robbery is the crime most difficult to classify. The
law considers robbery a crime against the person or against the property, according to the case.
Robbery may involve simply stealing property from another person, but when a personal encounter
occurs between the robber and his victim, it may include violence and bodily harm. This usually
occurs during muggings or other strong–arm robberies.
