The document discusses the various technologies used to construct a 5-minute radio show. It describes using the free and open Creative Commons licenses to find resources like music, sounds, and a platform to host the finished show. The main tools used were the free audio software Audacity to record tracks and edit features like the time shift and envelope tools, and the website SoundCloud to upload the final broadcast. Other resources mentioned that provided materials include Freesound for sound effects and jingles, and a USB and portable microphone for high quality audio recording.

Data Centers - Striving Within A Narrow Range - Research Report - MCG - May 2...pchutichetpong
M Capital Group (“MCG”) expects to see demand and the changing evolution of supply, facilitated through institutional investment rotation out of offices and into work from home (“WFH”), while the ever-expanding need for data storage as global internet usage expands, with experts predicting 5.3 billion users by 2023. These market factors will be underpinned by technological changes, such as progressing cloud services and edge sites, allowing the industry to see strong expected annual growth of 13% over the next 4 years.
Whilst competitive headwinds remain, represented through the recent second bankruptcy filing of Sungard, which blames “COVID-19 and other macroeconomic trends including delayed customer spending decisions, insourcing and reductions in IT spending, energy inflation and reduction in demand for certain services”, the industry has seen key adjustments, where MCG believes that engineering cost management and technological innovation will be paramount to success.
MCG reports that the more favorable market conditions expected over the next few years, helped by the winding down of pandemic restrictions and a hybrid working environment will be driving market momentum forward. The continuous injection of capital by alternative investment firms, as well as the growing infrastructural investment from cloud service providers and social media companies, whose revenues are expected to grow over 3.6x larger by value in 2026, will likely help propel center provision and innovation. These factors paint a promising picture for the industry players that offset rising input costs and adapt to new technologies.
According to M Capital Group: “Specifically, the long-term cost-saving opportunities available from the rise of remote managing will likely aid value growth for the industry. Through margin optimization and further availability of capital for reinvestment, strong players will maintain their competitive foothold, while weaker players exit the market to balance supply and demand.”
1. WHAT HAVE YOU LEARNT ABOUT THE
TECHNOLOGIES FOR THE PROCESS OF
CONSTRUCTING THIS PRODUCT?
2. CREATIVE COMMONS
The creative commons where used throughout the making of our 5 minute radio
show. So what is the creative commons? They are a non-profit organisation.
Below you can see their mission and their vision. These websites helped us
extremely in the production of our media show. If we did not have them available
we would have no jingle, intro or outro. We would also have no where to upload
our finished show to.
Here is a list of the websites involved in the creative commons:
• Freesound
• Soundcloud
• Audacity
• Freemusicarchive
3. AUDACITY
To make our radio show we needed to use certain tools and resources to record the
broadcast. The main tool was audacity which is a free software we downloaded
and were able to use for free. This is where we did most of our recording for our
show. We used tools such as the time shift tool and the envelope tool. The time
shift tool is used to move different tracks around to the suitable place at which
you would like them to be. For example, our jingle has a beat to a certain time.
Every five seconds it changes to a different sound, and we decided to make the
headline every five seconds after the sound. If the time shift tool didn’t exist we
would not be able to do this.
4. EVIDENCE OF AUDACITY
The envelope tool enabled us to lower the volume of a certain piece of audio without
de-amplifying it and without lowering the whole track. This was very useful when it
came to continuity as we could hear the announcer’s voice instead of the music
overpowering it.
This is the envelope tool in use. As you can see where the continuity comes in the
background gets quieter and when it is finishing the background gets back to its
normal volume.
5. BLOGGER
Blogger is a site run by Google, this is where I have been documenting our steps
which we took into creating our radio show. The first thing was the research and
planning. It is a good thing that is was all documented in a blog as we can revisit
it as much as we want and it is at easy access. The next is the main task and then
it is the evaluation. It is also easy to visit other people in your group’s blog to view
it and get inspiration and see where they are at. These are my blog posts in
blogger.
6. SOUNDCLOUD
Another key website we used to complete our radio show was soundcloud. This is
another free website which we used to upload our finished main task. I also used
it to upload the 5 minute radio show which I analysed the codes and conventions
from, I would not of been able to do this if it wasn't for soundcloud. I have learnt
that soundcloud is a free website which you can upload your own sounds up onto
for free. Many people use it to upload their own music or remixes. When you post
you can choose whether to put it on public or private. I chose private to eliminate
the risk of copyright. I also learnt that it is part of the creative commons. This is
an example on the question 4 answer finished which I uploaded onto soundcloud.
As you can see it is on private and not public.
7. FREESOUND
Freesound is another website we used to obtain music for our radio show. We got
most of our sound effects and jingles from this website. This is also a free website
which has thousands of sounds which you can download for free. In our radio
show we got our jingle, which we used in our intro and outro from freesound. This
is the name of the track we used in our radio show. I have learnt that to download
a track from this website you have to make an account. This shows that it is very
secure. Also when it downloads onto your computer the producers name and the
name of the track is shown.
8. USB MICROPHONE
The USB microphone we used is a key part of the construction of our radio show. We
used a Blue Snowball USB Microphone along with a pop shield. We found out that
this made our recordings crisp and extremely professional. We also found out that
if we didn’t not have the popper or the microphone our radio broadcast would
lack the perfection and polish it had with the microphone and pop shield. We also
learnt you can control the microphone in two ways, on the hardware and on the
software you are using it with. Which happened to
be Audacity in my case.
9. PORTABLE MICROPHONE
Along with a usb microphone we needed to use a portable one also. We used this to
be able to record our outside broadcasts. If we didn’t have a portable microphone
we wouldn’t be able to create a realistic radio show about news, as one of the
codes and conventions of a local radio news show is a vox pops, which is an array
of answers to the question you asked which are usually one word. They consist of
different people and different locations which you can hear in the background
noise. If we didn’t have a portable microphone recording these conventions would
not be possible making the radio show unrealistic.
