1. Photos by Alicia Hastey November 20, 2010 The large metallic sphere that now finds its home in Battery Park used to reside in the plaza between the Twin Towers. After the attacks on September 11, 2001 the sphere was recovered from the rubble of the towers and dismantled. Six months later it was put back together and erected along side an eternal flame in honor of those lost in the tragedy of the attacks. The sphere remains mostly intact showing only some holes, dents, scratches and scrapes symbolizing the resilience of the American people after this tragedy. The flame that burns eternal shows that the memory of those lost will live on forever.
