That work of art that you like
Name / Date:
Name of artist:
Style: (realistic, abstract…)
Objects and people: (describe what’s in it)
Shapes and colours: (curved, flat, rough, smooth,
colours, etc.)
What the artist wanted to express:
Writer’s opinion: (like/don’t like/why/personal
opinion)
The work of art you like
Name / Date: Summer Evening, 1947
Name of artist: Edward Hopper
Style: modern realistic (soft realism)
Objects and people: a girl in a short summer dress and a boy in t-shirt and
pants, who are standing in the porch of a wooden house. The house has a
door and a window, with curtains behind.
Shapes and colours: plain shapes and straight lines. The porch in under a white
electric light that comes from the roof. Around the house, there’s black
everywhere (it’s a night scene). The house is white, but the door and the
window are olive green.
What the artist wanted to express: the warmth of a couple on a summer night
and their loneliness in the middle of nowhere.
Writer’s opinion: I see an interesting contradiction in the painting: the boy and
the girl probably think that they are together, but we can see from the
outside that they are alone. I love that.
