1. Perhaps you have been growing increasingly concerned as of late

2. about global environmental issues

3. like pollution

4. loss of biodiversity

5. climate change

6. or conflict over scarce natural resources

7. or more domestic matters

8. like rampant commercialism and high debt levels

9. or the perils of increased social isolation

10. All these complex problems

11. Are being fueled in large part by a common force

12. consumption - the process by which we accumulate more stuff

13. Sure, we can blame advertisers for tempting us

14. but knowing how many wonderful things there are to be had

15. can we fault people for wanting to experience them all?

16. However, as any economist will tell you, we are at an impasse

17. these limitless desires

18. are confronted by a fundamental scarcity of resources

19. everyone cannot simultaneously enjoy what some already have

20. those resource-intensive luxuries that the rich take for granted

21. Humanity aspiring to this dream of unbridled material prosperity will beget nightmares because we cannot yet achieve it in a sustainable fashion. But surely you've heard enough about this dilemma ...

22. and have gotten on board the new green bandwagon

23. maybe not... perhaps these arguments aren't compelling

24. or now you just feel so fatalistic about the future

25. that you're verging on something like eco-nihilism

26. Take heart in this idea: you can have more fun with less stuff

27. simply by sharing what you already have with others

28. This may seem childish at first, but just think about it...

29. how many things in your room have you not touched in months?

30. and don't forget about all the other stuff in storage
