WHAT TO PACK TO TRAVEL TO MONGOLIA
When you are traveling to Mongolia ,you should pack as lightly as possible. Most travelers
carry their luggage in a backpack/suitcases with wheels. Try to use something that is both
lockable and water proof and also with high quality.
It is a good idea to bring another smaller bag so that unwanted clothes can be kept in it at
the hotel or camp when you go on trek.
Clothes and necessary items
If you are going to travel in summer days, it is a better to bring following clothes : Warm
clothes like warm sweater with waterproof and wind protection, warm socks, sturdy hiking
boots (for hiking), summer gloves (for riding horses), t-shirt, shirts, trausers, sandals, light
rain coat, sunglasses, wide brimmed hat will keep the sun off your face, money belt for your
valuables /travelers' cheques, passport and cash/.
If you are going to travel in wintertime, Following clothes are highly recommended to wear:
Warm clothes like warm sweater with waterproof and wind protection, winter snow coat,
warm socks, hiking boots with waterproof (for walking in snow), warm gloves, scarf, winter
hat, sunglasses and so on..
If you are going to stay in tent camping, it is a better to take your sleeping bag, and warm
clothes for resting in tent. For outdoor camping and camel/horse riding trips your baggage
should be as the round squashy type rather than hard heavy suitcases that are difficult to fit
into jeeps and on the backs of camels or horses.
Every traveler needs to bring a basic medical kit & first aid kit, effective insect repellent,
specially, travelers from countries with low altitude, advised to bring vitamins for crisis
because of altitude changes. The average altitude in Mongolia is 1600 m above sea level.
Moreover, everyone must be supplied by health insurance service in their homeland before
arrival.
All camps in countryside don't provide with disposable toiletries and hygiene supplies such
as teeth paste, small soap and so on.. So, please, bring your personal items. It is advisable
to bring extra films, blank audio cassettes, own private toiletries including dental floss and
light towels, spare batteries for your electronic equipments, flashlight, Swiss army knife,
sun block, moist tissues, cream, lip balm, notebook and pens, compass, passport photos,
travel style packs with locking zippers, convenient daypack, copy of your identification,
mosquito avoiding incense.
Gifts suggestion.
We recommend you to pack some presents from home for nomadic families in exchange for
their hospitality. It can be children books, note books, pencils, stickers, matches, sweets,
hair ribbons, tobacco, small bottles of perfume or small souvenirs from your country.
Special items
If you are taking special interested tour, please, take your own instruments, for instance:
ear plugs, fly fishing gears, camping gears, good boots, hunting weapons and so on…
In countryside, you have long time driving in wild nature and in severe & changeable
weather, so you may see no jeeps, no people, you may feel hot, sometimes cold. Please,
prepare yourself for untouched wild nature and rural environment to avoid from cultural
shock.
