Case Study 3.2: Andy's Recipe Andy Garafallo has owned a successful Italian restaurant for the last 25 years. His restaurant is steeped in tradition, and he does not try different fads to get people to come. Rather, he believes that people come to his business because they know they will get great food. Three managers at the restaurant, Kelly, Danielle, and Patrick, each possess different strengths and weaknesses. Each of these three managers has strengths that complement their positions and Andys weakness. The case study is useful because it outlines how a person lacking a skill can still succeed. It also brings a good question to mind: How much more successful would Andy be if he did indeed have more leadership skills. 1. What accounts for Andys success in the restaurant business? 2. From a skills perspective, how would you describe the three managers, Kelly, Danielle, and Patrick? 3. What does each of them need to do to improve his or her skills? 4. How would you describe Andys competencies? Does Andys leadership suggest that one does not need all three skills to be effective?.
