Various properties of silk are assessed
in the current analysis –
 AFL
 ANFBL
 Renditta
 Raw Silk %

 Reelability

5. Filament Length
 It is the total length of silk filament ,
unwound from a single cocoon
measured in meters.
 Of the total length, only 80% is Reelable
 Filament Length is measured by using
Epprouvette

6.  Equipment -reel of 1.125m
circumference
 Capable of revolving at a uniform speed
of 300 RPM
 Has a dial showing the number of
revolutions
 Has Automatic stop device and is used
for single cocoon reeling

comprising around 10 cocoons.

 The mean value of filament length in meters
was calculated as per the standard formula

13.  Denier represents the size of the yarn, i.e.,
the weight in grams of 9,000 meters of the
filament. It is calculated as
Denier(D) = Weight of filament(g) × 9000
