Vanderbilt. What began as Vanderbilt's country retreat became America's
largest private home: 250-room Biltmore House, taking hundreds of workers six
years to complete.
Vanderbilt celebrated Biltmore's opening with family and friends on Christmas
Eve 1895. The Christmas season continues to be a special time at the estate, with
