This document discusses Lev Vygotsky's sociocultural theory of cognitive development, which posits that social learning precedes development and occurs in a child's Zone of Proximal Development through collaboration with more skilled partners. Vygotsky believed that functions in a child's cognitive development appear on two levels: first on the social, or interpersonal level between people, and then later on the intrapsychological level within the child.
