2. HYBRID GENRE OR CROSS GENRE
Lets start of the genre itself. I am working with an electro pop genre which is a hybrid other wise also
known as cross-genre. Electro pop genre consists of electronic music and pop music. The genre has seen
a revival of popularity and influence since 1980s , all the way to now days.
If we look at these two genres conventions we might come across a number of factors.
3. LETS START POP MISE-EN-SCENE
Costume: Bright Clothing, lose hair, experimenting with hair colours and revealing clothing.
Locations: Streets, studios, Green Screen use, Bright colourful backgrounds.
Props: These may vary depending on the narrative of the music video.
Lighting: Bright, saturated, colourful, neon.
4. ELECTRONIC MUSIC MISE-EN.SCENE
Costume: Blue and black clothing, Simple but yet futuristic, the hair is pulled up and sleek.
Locations: Green Screen, Spaces, odd locations, neon colours but cold toned.
Props: These may vary depending on the narrative
Lighting: Blue, purple, green, cold toned colours, dull.
5. One one of the electo-pop genre conventions include bright clothing. If we look at this example of
Kesha she has her bright pastel purple hair with colourful costume.
However at the beginning of my music video I followed the genres conventions but later after getting an
audience feedback which I will leave a link to bellow has showed me that I should change my artists
costume, since it didn’t match the songs theme.
I decided to go with the costumes which my artist Halsey went for in one of her concerts.
When I was studding my artist I came across with her music videos such as Ghost and colours. Where
she wore a wig. This inspired me to have my artist wearing a wig.
