AQUARION EMPLOYEE CELEBRATED
AS HERO
Applauded for Saving Neighbor From
Blazing Building
Aquarion Water Company’s Chris Redfield was
honored recently by Connecticut Gov. M. Jodi
Rell and the City of Stamford’s Board of
Representatives for rescuing a neighbor from a
burning building.
Chris, who works with our Utility Operations
staff as a distribution system operator, was awak-
ened after 1 a.m. to see his neighbor crying for
help, as she was trapped at an upstairs window
surrounded by black smoke.Within seconds,
he attempted an initial rescue by bursting into
her side door with a water hose.
When the threatening billows kept him at bay,
Chris retreated, climbed a ladder to the top
rung, broke the window and urged her to reach
out to get a hold of him. “The ladder was too
short, and I couldn’t reach her, so I told
her,‘You have to help me,’ ” he recalled. She
trusted him, and Chris, standing on the
top rung, helped her out and broke her Chris Redfield

recently donated vehicles to the towns of
Beacon Falls, Shelton and Oxford. “When companies provide donations that
enhance the city’s ability to respond to emer-
gency situations, it has a significant impact on
the fire department, because our budget has to
cover firefighting equipment first,” Acting Fire
Chief Brian Rooney said.
Other city officials agreed that the donations
demonstrate how private industry and munici-
pal organizations can create worthwhile part-
nerships that benefit the communities we serve.
