DERMOT Culleton has been
tasked with co-ordinating the
Wivenhoe to Toowoomba
pipeline.
Yesterday he co-ordinated
excavation workers and tip truck
drivers bringing in sand from
Atkinson Dam, perfecting the
earthworks at the campsite that
will house about 100 construction
workers by January.
Construction of the pipeline
connecting Toowoomba’s
dwindling water supply to
Wivenhoe Dam will begin in
various locations in February.
Southern Regional Water
Pipeline Company (trading as
LinkWater Projects) will finish
the $187 million pipeline by
January 2010.
The precise route of the
pipeline finishing at Cressbrook
Dam is unknown.
LinkWater Projects
Toowoomba Pipeline community
and stakeholder liaison manager
Carmen Marshall yesterday said
the exact route was planned to be
released next week and affects
about 20 private landholders and
20 government landholdings.
The campsite, on the Esk
Hampton Road opposite the Esk
Bowling Club, will have about 16
demountable accommodation
units, a kitchen, mess hall and
storage shed for equipment.
Ms Marshall said the campsite
will be established by the end of
next month.
Already the project has
boosted businesses in Esk. Staff
at Linda Barn’s Esk Bakery and
Cafe reported selling extra
bacon, eggs and pies to
construction workers.
Ms Marshall also said it was
LinkWater Projects’ policy to
hire locally where possible.
LinkWater Projects is seeking
to employ excavators, machine
operators, plumbers, electricians,
boilermakers, a cleaner and
more. Visit

Mayor says valuation
advice doesn’t add up
THE Queensland Department of
Natural of Resources and Water
has confirmed it will not conduct
an annual valuation for the
Somerset Region for 2009 to 2010
despite Somerset Regional
Council having to pay annual
valuation fees.
Somerset Regional Mayor
Graeme Lehmann said the
department’s advice about the
$74,000 ratepayer funded
valuation fees “did not even try
to hide the fact that no service
would be provided”.
“One of the worst things about
this is that we are in a growth
area where newly created
properties will have new
valuations reflecting current
market conditions but older
established properties will have a
valuation that reflects the
October 2006 market,” he said.
“We have to work with 2006
valuations that were assessed by
two different offices of the
Department of Natural Resources
and I can tell you that they are
not in the least bit consistent.”
Vandals target
businesses in Gatton
VANDALS targeted businesses in
Gatton’s CBD on Tuesday night.
Police believe youths have
smeared a candle-wax type
substance on the windows of
about nine businesses between
10.30pm and 12.30am.
Most of the defaced businesses
were in Railway Street. Police
believe the offenders started at
Ray White Rural and worked
their way around to Target
Country on Spencer Street.
Gatton police are reviewing
video surveillance of the area.
Anyone with information should
call Gatton police or Crime
Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
