Juan Duarte is a visiting researcher at IAMAS who does audiovisual communication work including sound design, photography, and digital animation. His current research projects involve sonic and ludic interaction design for kites. He is exploring techniques like earcons, parameter mapping, and model-based sonification to design the sonic interaction. His goal is to bring together sonic interaction design, granular and pulsar synthesis, and concepts of play from theorists like Huizinga and Caillois. He is producing a pulsating kite installation using electronics, wireless controllers and a computer to generate sounds in response to the kite's movement. Juan Duarte will be doing a live audiovisual performance of this work
