Recent pipeline incidents have raised concerns about pipeline integrity and, along with recent government announcements, are shining a light on Canada’s pipeline industry. The members of the Canadian Energy Pipeline Association (CEPA) know that pipelines need to be safe and reliable, and they are focused on delivering on those commitments. Canadian pipeline operators have a strong track record for pipeline safety borne out of continuous improvements and deployment of technology. Recent events have demonstrated, though, that we need to do more to reduce the frequency and impact of pipeline events. To that end, CEPA is today formally announcing its CEPA Integrity First program, an industry-wide initiative based on the sharing of best-practices and the application of advanced technology. We intend to improve pipeline safety, environmental and social performance of our industry by focusing initially on four key areas: Prevention, Emergency Response, Reclamation and Education.
