2. I have chose to emulate this certain cover for my magazine as I like the layout and the text featured on the
cover. There are certain differences, such as my image laying behind the master head. The Hobbit is a very
established institution, so will be the selling point for this certain issue of Empire magazine. However, due to
my film being new on the scene, I felt it would be more appropriate for it to not dominate too much of the
cover so to be even with the master head, which will be its selling point.

3. I started by editing in the main features of a magazine
front cover, those being the image and the master head. I
also put in Empire magazines strapline so to appear
professional and realistic.
I have edited the image using
Photoshop. I wanted her to
appear ghostly and
supernatural. I edited the
contrast and brightness of
the image so she looks as if
Empire magazines she is glowing. This creates
Strapline, included on most an eerie vibe and leads the
issues, so is a typical audience to connecting this
convention of the magazine with the genre that is horror.
The colour blue stands out
against the black, so draws
the eye straight away to the
central image. Her body

is scared and hiding. She is

4. I have now added a sub title, which is an indication to what this issue’s topic is about, as well as a
tagline to go with this subheading, which teases the audiences with revealing a little, but enough

5. After adding more text, the cover is starting to look more filled in and is coming together. The dark background of the
image is a good basis for this text, and allows it to stand out and not fade in. I have stuck with a very simple colour
scheme of white, red and beige, which again follows the sophisticated theme, leaving the magazine refined and classy.

6. This is the finished cover. I have strictly stuck to emulating the hobbit issues cover, making sure to place text in the right areas and
filling the space in appropriately.

phrases like ‘The
scariest film of 2010’
and more
exclamatory phrases
to enthuse the
audience. The
colours I have used
also muted enough
to not distract the
eye away from the
central image.
