Occupational Identity
1. Family
Family are the
most important
thing. No matter
what happens,
we stick
together and we
work together to
solve problems
and get through
hard times but
most of all, we
have the best
times together
which leave us
with happy
memories that
will stick with us
forever.
2. BoatingWithin my family we have
always had a boat. There are
lots of different activities that
having a boat gives us access
to. These are things like sea &
lake fishing, water sports
(skiing, wakeboarding,
biscuiting), and diving.
Through this family occupation,
not only can we provide food,
but the catching of a fish
provides us with satisfaction
and a sense of achievement.
We always have an award for
‘catch of the day’ which last
time (refer to image) happened
to be me! It may be a small fish
but it is a trumpeter which is
one of our favourite types.
3. Shopping
Life can be stressful or even boring at times so it’s important to have an occupation that
you rely on for a bit of distraction and general ‘cheering up’. For me, that occupation is
shopping! I always feel satisfied after a few hours or even a day shopping. It’s usually
something that brings my Mum and I together as we have similar taste in fashion and
both enjoy spending time together away from the boys every now and then.

4. (Conde Nast, 2013)
I love to try new foods from different cultures and also try out higher
class restaurants that have the ‘quality not quantity’ approach. I feel
that eating brings people together, whether it be a special family
occasion, a friends birthday or a meal out with my boyfriend.
5. Friends
My friends: They are always ready for a good time and there for
support when in need. Within a group of friends there’s always the
immature one, the sensible one, the quiet one, and then there’s the
one who always has to ruin a potentially nice photo… yes, that’s me!
6. Going to the gym, for a walk, doing the stairs down the street
or going out for a run are a few things that I do to keep fit. I
see fitness as being a very important part of health therefore
is something that I fit into my daily routine.
7.
8. Student
Student life: This consists of study, socialising, a very large student loan,
long drives home, and a cold flat. It’s a lot of fun and I am loving meeting
new people and learning important life skills, most importantly - budgeting.
Being a Dunedin student people tend to ask if I burn couches and sit on
roof tops but in fact, I haven’t done either of those things!
9. Future Occupational
Therapist
After having studied occupational
therapy for over a year now, I am
certain that it is the right
profession for me. I like to help
people whenever I can, from
assisting an elderly to a specific
isle in the supermarket to looking
after children on weekends. I am
looking forward to the upcoming
transition into the workforce as
an occupational therapist.(MedXpresStaffing, 2010)
10. Travelling
I love seeing new places and doing new things. Finding places
within our own country that I never knew existed is so exciting and
rewarding. In the years to come I plan to travel more abroad as I
begin to make some money …
