History - Mission & Vision Mission Our Goal is a holistic development through community action in Education , Health, Enviornment ,Human Rights and Rural development under MDG 2015 guideline. AASRA Charitable Trust ( ACT ) began as an informal initiative , for counselling to young people in gender distress and to disseminate need based reproductive health, sexuality and HIV related counselling through post box and telephone in 1997. Following a UNICEF supported based lines survey of street and working populations of Patna aged from 13 – 19 years in 1999,The AASRA project {as we were then known} identified three main areas for intervention : (a) Child Protection (b) Health , education and HIV prevention strategies for young people aged 14 to 19,(c) human , health and sexuality related rights issue with focus on vulnerable populations. We were , and continue to be a group of volunteers of different ages who meet together to advocate positive change and to encourage a child friendly and people friendly environment in our country. Vission Our vision is “ Breaking Barriers , Building Community” a dream which can come true strong commitment and motivation. A dream of a nation that embodies the sprit of Gandhi and the words of Tagore when he wrote “ Where the mind is without fear and the head is held high………..” ACT believes all issue are interlinked, working on one issue in isolation. It will not have the desired impact. Our group members have different interests and expertise in their chosen fieldsand thus we have adopted the concept of convergence to work on different levels for the holistic development of the community in the form of different initiatives. ACT India CHARTER ,[object Object]
ACT activities and interventions are therefore addresses to people of all classes , communities , ages and sexual orientations and we invite gender-sensitive and non judgmental individuals to join us .Those who help us in our work or join our group must necessarily respect the sub –cultures, languages , lifestyles and orientations of colleagues , co-workers, group members and the people at large.
( The Founder Members of ACT adopted this charter on April 14,1997 ). A Better Community for ALL. ACT is an effort towards enabling all people regardless of gender, age, caste , sexuality to enjoy lives of dignity and freedom from fear , ignorance infection and reproductive and sexual ill health. ACT works to equip children and adolescents with life skills and protection from violence physical, emotional, or sexual and to provide a safe , non judgmental space wherein abused children and adolescents can make choices and find assistance to cope with their problems. ACT , through its advocacy materials and programmes , endeavors to provide men and women with choices in their sexual and reproductive lives – and we recognize that such choices are inseparable from sexuality, and that sexual identity is a vital part of human existence. • 5. • 6. • 9.
