2. Definition of Genre
A style or category of art, music, literature or film.
In terms of films each genre has its own ingredients
to make it fit into that genre
3. My Chosen Genre- Thriller
Thriller films tend to follow a set path of events, they tend
to create a sense of enigma. They tend to have a good
character and a bad character. Stock plots tend to involve
the main character becoming in grave danger and the
victim of the bad character. There are similar situations
such as fights where the good character always wins. The
locations are always built up city areas or other busy
places. Music is always tense and dramatic and used to
create mystery. Also all the shots tend to be fast paced
and full of action, with lots of scenes of action.

The opening scene of the purge
doesn't give to much of the film away
and just shows the riots the film is
based on. The mysterious nature is
key to a thriller and keeps viewers
interested and wanting to watch the
film.

The opening title to inception doesn’t give
anything away at all and builds up a sense
of enigma for the audience, this is a key
concept of all thriller films and this one
follows them particularly well.
7. What my opening should
include
Having researched the openings of a few films I can see
that for my own opening I need to create a sense of
enigma and keep my scene mysterious to draw in my
target audience. I need to consider location and costume
because these can be a tell-tale factor of what the story
line could be. I also need to stick to the other key
concepts that the thriller genre follows in order for me to
create a successful opening scene that both interests the
target audience and makes people want to watch the rest
of the film. So I must ensure that I make it as interesting
as possible.
