AFTER dropping his debut sin-
gle Save Me featuring the soulful
Sarah Jackson, local breakout
artist TiMO ODV catapulted
himself into the limelight with his
gold certified smash hit. The song
premiered exclusively on TRACE
earlier this year and propelled his
status in SA’s music industry to
critical acclaim almost overnight.
Determined to prove he’s more
than just a one hit wonder, the
Johannesburg native recently
debuted his new sophomore
single Find My Way, once again,
exclusively on TRACE Urban.
The deep pop anthem has since
garnered an overwhelmingly
positive reception much to the
delight of his doting fans. The
effortless soul-stirring brilliance
of TiMO’s latest track holds the
same musical magnetism as his
Save Me and is well worth a listen
(or a hundred).
When asked about the under-
lying message conveyed in Find
My Way, TiMO ODV had this to
say: “The song is about becoming
complacent and unhappy, leav-
ing someone and finding out that
there isn’t actually something
better out there, then trying to
find your way back to them.”
TiMO ODV says that although
the stories told in his songs may
be fictional, he draws his lyrical
inspiration from the emotions he
feels.
Eager to further familiarise
ourselves with the hot new break-
out artist, we spoke exclusively to
TiMO ODV to delve deeper into
his musical sensibilities:
How was the stage name
TiMO ODV conceived?
My first name is Timothy, hence
TiMO, and ODV is an abbrevi-
ated version of my Dutch sur-
name Oude Vrielink.
Did you ever anticipate
that your meteoric rise
through Save Me would
happen the way that it did?
I honestly didn’t expect it at all.
I was really caught off-guard to
the point that I still feel like I’m
catching up.
How do you plan on staying
grounded?
Well, I believe that pride comes
before a fall and I like to keep
my head down and work harder.
This is only the beginning for me.
Where was the Find My Way
music video filmed?
Find My Way was shot in a really
cool studio house in Midrand.
What’s your favourite
scene in the video?
My favourite would have to be
the final scene. We shot about
four retakes and each time I got
slapped even harder <laughs>.
What can you share with
us about the tumultuous
interpersonal relationship
dynamic between you and
your Find My Way female
co-star?
She’s actually my girlfriend and
we’ve been dating for about two
years now. I chose her because
I thought we’d have good chem-
istry.
What memorable moments
did you have shooting the
music video?
I won’t lie, but the intro scene,
where we’re busy making out,
was super awkward to shoot.
The director was shouting “Eat
her face! Get in there!” So I’m
sure I’ll remember that for quite
a while.
Lastly, describe the ulti-
mate goal that defines the
pinnacle of your success?
My ultimate goal would be a bill-
board Top 10 song.

Victoria Kimani takes to theAfrican
Music Concert stage on Saturday
WITH just five days left before the first annual African
Music Concert takes over of the city on Saturday at
the Nasrec Expo Centre in Johannesburg, planning is
well under way to showcase 20 of the biggest African
headliners in a 10 hour concert featuring Victoria
Kimani, Wizkid, AKA, Davido, K.O., Flavour, Burna
Boy, Venessa Mdee, Bucie, Uhuru, and several others.
Ahead of her performance this Saturday, we spoke
to Kenyan singer/songwriter Victoria Kimani about
the mega afro-centric affair.
Describe your genre of music.
It’s a mixture of different sounds, mostly R&B and
pop infused with afro-pop. I’m an ever-evolving artist
with a background in song-writing so you can catch
me singing to whatever inspires me at the moment.
How important is your involvement in the
AMC 2015?
It’s very important and really cool! It’s shocking that
these sorts of
concerts don’t
happen all the
time across the
continent.
We Africans
have been sep-
arated for way
too long and music is an excellent way to learn more
about our diverse cultures, styles and sounds.
Music has always been a common language so it’s
important for African nations to unite through this
language so we can see just how much we all have in
common as well.
What African sounds do you plan to share?
My fans will get to experience my version of travels
from East Africa to West Africa and finally South
Africa, as well as my interpretation of pop culture and
pop appeal in Africa.
You’ll hear some dancehall, afro-pop and I’ll also
perform my new single Booty Bounce for the very
first time!

THOUGH the
story isn’t
unique, this
supernatural
action series
has enough
decent fight
scenes, believ-

it forward. The
plus is that it
was shot in
Cape Town with
a strong South

Engelbrecht and Karl Beukes. Dominion is loosely based on
2010 film Legion, written by Peter Schink and Scott Stewart.
SET in the office of
Selina Meyer, a fictional

this award-winning
American political
dramedy has been well
received with several
major awards to its
name. The series has
been nominated four
years in a row for the
Primetime Emmy
Award for outstanding
comedy series – actu-
ally winning the award in its fourth season. Its second season
won the Writers Guild of America Award for television com-
edy series and Season 3 won the TCA Award for outstanding
achievement in comedy.

carry the film

it tells the story
