Cassper Nyovest had a triumphant night at the Metro FM Awards, winning five awards including Song of the Year, Best Male Album, Listeners' Choice Award, and Best Hip Hop Album. His performance of "Doc Shebeleza" was well received. Nyovest intends to work harder in 2015 and keep putting out great music for his fans. He remains inspired by his success but wants to stay grounded through his faith, hard work, and family. His goal is to see his debut album go platinum and receive international recognition like a BET Award.

FEELING like a kid in a candy store after listening to
Iggy Azalea’s track, Fancy, for first time, pop super-
star Britney Spears is desperate to work with the Aus-
tralian lyricist. The Womanizer hit maker revealed
her excitement about the rapper when she first saw
Iggy’s music video for the chart-topping Fancy single.
Britney said: “I saw her song on TV and I was like a
kid in a candy store. I was like: ‘I love Iggy, I love that
video, I want to work with her’.” Catching wind of her
new famous
fan, Azalea
revealed in
an inter-
view: “It
was really
weird,
because a
week after
that, her
manager was like: ‘She’s a huge fan of yours.’ I was
like: ‘Let’s do something together,’ so it worked out.”
The 24-year-old recording artist booked a studio ses-
sion with Spears and the pair went straight to work
on a series of tracks in December. The 33-year-old
pop legend is now planning on releasing one of their
collaborations as the first single from her ninth studio
album, which is yet to be titled. Iggy, who released
her debut LP, The New Classic, last year, hinted that
their song together is “undeniably great”. Iggy said:
“I think people are really going to love it and enjoy it.
It’s a really fun track.”

So Help Me God
KANYE West recently announced his new album and
has followed in the footsteps of Beyoncé and Drake by
revealing it suddenly and without much fanfare. As a
follow-up to Yeezus, the 37-year-old rapper revealed
his latest album, entitled So Help Me God, on Twitter.
Although he posted
the revelation alongside
an image of four lower-
case ems, connected in
a diamond shape, which
is a 13th century Monas-
tic symbol of the Virgin
Mary, it is still unclear
whether this will be the record’s artwork. The album
doesn’t have an official release date, because Yeezy
intends on keeping his fans guessing.
“Release dates are played out, so the surprise is
going to be a surprise,” he says. “My last album was
a protest of music, but this album is just embracing
the music, embracing joy and just being a service to
the people.” The Bound 2 hit maker and father of
20-month-old daughter North with wife Kim Kar-
dashian has previously shared his views on Christian-
ity and how “awesome” it is. “We’re allowed to, you
know, draw an image of him, we’re allowed to make
movies about him,” the rapper says.
Nyovest, top in his class
TRACE catches up with Metro FMAward champion Cassper Nyovest
February 28th proved to be
a triumphant night for hip hop
heavyweight Cassper Nyovest,
who scooped five Metro FM
Awards.
Nyovest cleaned up big time
and walked away with trophies
for best hit single and song of
the year for Doc Shebeleza, best
male album, the listeners choice
award and the coveted best hip
hop album honour, beating KO
and AKA.
The Phumakim hit-maker fre-
quented the stage in a different
outfit to collect each award, which
is somewhat unique for a South
African artist.
Social media was abuzz from
both SA and abroad with praises
for the rap superstar’s accolades.
American rapper Talib Kweli,
who collaborated with Nyovest
on his Doc Shebeleza remix,
tweeted: “@CassperNyovest
and that’s how it’s done.” SA
rapper AKA simply tweeted
“congratulations”. Even break-
out artist Riky Rick got in on the
action, tweeting: “1…2...3...4…...5
@CassperNyovest is officially the
biggest hip hop artist to rock our
country!”
The event concluded with an
epic performance from none
other than Cassper himself.
TRACE caught up with the hip
hop game changer to chat about
his latest conquests.
Which Metro FM award is
your favourite?
Song of the year simply because
it signifies having the biggest
song of 2014! Apart from that,
my award for best hip hop album
best represents the pinnacle of
my success because it took me
10 years to put it together and
my album has only been out for
7 months.
How have these awards
affected your work ethic
and plans of producing new
music in 2015?
I’m far from slowing down, I’m
inspired to work harder and keep
putting out great music for my
fans. My Metro FM performance
was just a glimpse of what I plan
to do this year.
How did the wardrobe
change idea come about?
It was really a spur of the moment
idea. My personal favourite was
the grey and black trench coat.
Before becoming a house-
hold name, did you ever
think you’d reach this level
of success?
Yes, I’ve always known that I’d
become famous one day.
What has been your crazi-
est experience with fans?
When everybody started dying
their hair gold for my album, that
was quite cool.
How do you plan to stay
grounded?
I keep my feet on solid ground
through God, hard work and my
family. I just want to give my fans
great music.
What’s the next prestigious
accolade you’ve set your
sights on?
I’d like to see my debut album,
Tsholofelo, go platinum and I’ve
got my sights set on receiving a
BET Award.
How do you feel about Talib
Kweli’s Twitter shout-out?
Collaborating with Talib Kweli
was amazing and, as a conse-
quence, we built a great relation-
ship. It always feels good to get
acknowledgment from interna-
tionals, especially those who’ve
been in the industry as long as
he has.
How did this epic collabo-
ration come to fruition?
My team and I were asked to host
him for a day when he came down
to JHB. In the tour bus, on our
way to Soweto, he asked to hear
some of my stuff. Doc Shebeleza
was the first track I played for
him and he liked it. We decided
we’d go into studio to produce
the remix.
From the onset of your
career, who has been your
most influential artist/
producer?
Kanye West.
What message do you have
for the artists you went
head-to-head with?
Let’s keep making great music!
ALPHA: Cassper
Nyovest took top
honours at the
Metro FM Awards.
