2. Our Tasks
• Energy-saving
• Provide comfort for study and interaction
• Non air-conditioned
• Include at least five features that shows
understanding of the application of heat
transfer processes (at least one feature of
conduction, convection and radiation must be
applied)
3. We have come up with the idea of metal
plated tables and chairs. The reason for
this idea is that since metal is a good
conductor of heat, when the student
rest his arms on the table or sits on the
chair, the table and chair conducts heat
away from the students body.
4. Changing the fluorescent light tubes to LED
fluorescent tubes does not only reduces
heat, it has other benefits:
• Produce less heat than fluorescent
tubes, and thus also uses less energy
• Uses less energy than fluorescent tubes
• Last longer than fluorescent tubes ,thus
saving money in the long run as it requires
changing less frequent. One LED
fluorescent tube lifetime equals to 6
fluorescent tubes lifetime.
5. Our idea is to install air vents at the top
of the classroom. This is to draw the
warm air out from the classroom to the
outside. This works as hot air rises. Thus
this eliminates the warm air in the
classroom.
The following slides will show the
diagram and layout of our idea.

8. Our following idea is to have water
sprays integrated with the fans. These
sprays will spray out a mist of water
occasionally and the water droplets
would fall on the students’ body. The
water droplets will act like sweat, and
the wind from the fans would cause
evaporation, thus cooling the body of
the students.
9. Our last idea is to install ventilation fans in
the side of the wall that is facing the outside.
This is to draw in the cool air from the
outside and into the classroom, especially in
the morning as the air is damp and cooling. As
the cool air comes in, it will also help push out
the warm air.
The following diagram is the layout of the
plan for the ventilation fans and air vents.

11. Through doing this project, we learned heat is
transferred in three ways and how to minimize the
heat in the classroom. We have come up with ways to
counter the three ways of heat transfer. We also
have better understood the concepts of heat
transfer and in our project, we have use them to
counter the heat in the classroom. For example, our
ideas for convection. This project has help us to think
about the countless ways of reducing heat without
using an air-conditioner, which uses a lot of energy
and is not environmentally-friendly.
12. While doing this project, we have encountered a few
problems. An example is our busy holiday schedule.
Since we can only meet on one day, we made the best
of it by planning brainstormed as much ideas as we
could. After that day, we met online using Skype and
finished the rest of the project.
