2. What is vaccine?
• A vaccine is a biological preparation that provides
active acquired immunity to a particular disease.
• A vaccine typically contains an agent that resembles a
disease-causing microorganism and is often made from
weakened or killed forms of the microbe, its toxins, or one of
its surface proteins.
• The agent stimulates the body's immune system to recognize
the agent as a threat, destroy it, and to further recognize and
destroy any of the microorganisms associated with that agent
that it may encounter in the future.

3. Health Care System in
Turkey
• Health care in Turkey consists of a mix of public and
private health services.
• Turkey has universal health care under its Universal
Health Insurance system.
• Under this system, all residents registered with the Social
Security Institution can receive medical treatment free of
charge in hospitals contracted to the SGK.

• Work accidents and vocational illnesses
• Infectious diseases
• Preventive health services (drug and alcohol abuse)
• Childbirth
• Extraordinary events (injuries from war and natural disasters)
• Fertility treatment for women younger than 39

9. Hepatit B Vaccine
• The vaccine is usually given as 2, 3, or 4 shots over 1 to 6
months.
• Infants should get their first dose of hepatitis B vaccine at
birth and will usually complete the series at 6 months of
age.
• All children and adolescents younger than 19 years of age
who have not yet gotten the vaccine should also be
vaccinated

10. BCG Vaccine
• Bacillus Calmette–Guérin (BCG) vaccine is
a vaccine primarily used against tuberculosis (TB).
• The vaccine given only one dose in end of 2nd month.

11. DaBT Vaccine
• DTaP vaccine can help protect from diphtheria, tetanus,
and pertussis.
• DTaP is only for children younger than 7 years old. DTaP
vaccine is not appropriate for everyone—a small number
of children should receive a different vaccine that contains
only diphtheria and tetanus instead of DTaP.

12. Some children should not get
DTaP vaccine or should wait
• Has had an allergic reaction after a previous dose of
DTaP, or has any severe, life-threatening allergies.
• Has had a coma or long repeated seizures within 7 days
after a dose of DTaP.
• Has seizures or another nervous system problem.
• Has had a condition called Guillain-Barré Syndrome
(GBS).

13. Inactive Polio Vaccine
• Polio is a disease caused by a virus.
• It is spread mainly by person to-person contact.
• Most people infected with polio have no symptoms, and many
recover without complications.
• Sometimes people who get polio develop paralysis (cannot move
their arms or legs).
• Polio can result in permanent disability.
• Most people should get IPV when they are children. Doses of IPV are
usually given at 2, 4, 6 to 18 months, and 4 to 6 years of age.

14. Haemophilus Influenzae
Type B Vaccine
• Doses of Hib vaccine are usually recommended at these
ages:
• First Dose: 2 months of age
• Second Dose: 4 months of age
• Third Dose: 6 months of age (if needed, depending on
brand of vaccine)
• Final/Booster Dose: 12–15 months of age

15. Some people should not get
this vaccine
• Hib vaccine should not be given to infants younger than 6
weeks of age.

16. Pneumococcal Conjugate
Vaccine
• Vaccination can protect both children and adults from
pneumococcal disease.
• Pneumococcal conjugate vaccine (called PCV13) protects
against 13 types of pneumococcal bacteria.
• PCV13 is routinely given to children at 2, 4, 6, and 12–15
months of age.
• It is also recommended for children and adults 2 to 64
years of age with certain health conditions, and for all
adults 65 years of age and older.

17. MMR (Measles, Mumps, and
Rubella) Vaccine
• Children should get 2 doses of MMR vaccine, usually:
• First dose: 12 through 15 months of age
• Second dose: 4 through 6 years of age

18. Some people should not get
this vaccine
• Is pregnant, or thinks she might be pregnant.
• Pregnant women should wait to get MMR vaccine until after they are
no longer pregnant.
• Has a weakened immune system due to disease (such as cancer or
HIV/AIDS) or medical treatments (such as radiation, immunotherapy,
steroids, or chemotherapy).
• Has ever had a condition that makes them bruise or bleed easily.
• Has recently had a blood transfusion or received other blood
products. You might be advised to postpone MMR vaccination for 3
months or more.

19. Td Vaccine (Tetanus and
diphtheria)
• Td is usually given as a booster dose every 10 years but it
can also be given earlier after a severe and dirty wound or
burn.

20. Hepatitis A Vaccine
• Hepatitis A vaccine is an inactivated (killed) vaccine.
• Patient will need 2 doses for long-lasting protection.
• These doses should be given at least 6 months apart.
• Children are routinely vaccinated between their first and
second birthdays (12 through 23 months of age).
• Older children and adolescents can get the vaccine after
23 months.

21. Varicella (Chickenpox)
Vaccine
• Children 12 months through 12 years of age should get
2 doses of chickenpox vaccine, usually:
• First dose: 12 through 15 months of age
• Second dose: 4 through 6 years of age
• People 13 years of age or older who didn’t get the vaccine
when they were younger, and have never had chickenpox,
should get 2 doses at least 28 days apart.

22. Some people should not get
this vaccine
• Is pregnant, or thinks she might be pregnant.
• Pregnant women should wait to get chickenpox vaccine
until after they are no longer pregnant. Women should
avoid getting pregnant for at least 1 month after getting
chickenpox vaccine.
• Is taking salicylates (such as aspirin). People should avoid
using salicylates for 6 weeks after getting varicella
vaccine.
