Given the number of nodes (n) find the location of anti-nodes in relation to the
length of the string (L)
By definition, anti-nodes are the position of maximum displacement in a standing
wave system and nodes are the position of minimum displacement in a standing
wave system. Based on this we can state that the anti-node will be located halfway
between two nodes.
Given the formula 𝜆 = 2L/n, we can do the following,
When n=1, 𝜆=2L and nodes will be located at L and 2L. From this and our definition
of an anti-node, we can thus conclude that the anti-nodes will be located at L/2 and
3L/2, half way between 2 nodes.
When n=2, 𝜆=L and nodes will be located at L/2 and L. Thus the anti-nodes will be
located at L/4 and 3L/4.
When n=3, 𝜆=2L/3 and nodes will be located at L/3 and 2L/3. Thus the anti-nodes
will be located at L/6 and L/2.
When we continue on this process, a pattern as follows can be found;
L/2n and (L/2n)+1
