EDUCATION
New York University (NYU)
Polytechnic School of Engineering
Master of Computer Science (GPA: 3.9/4.0) May 2016
Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications (BUPT)
School of Computer Science
Bachelor of Computer Science July 2014
EXPERIENCE
Yahoo! Search Team (Sunnyvale) 2015 Summer Internship
Contextual Search Assist based on Entity Referral (Individual Project)
• Provide a session based query auto-completion (Hadoop)
• Preprocess Entity database and User Query Log (stored in HDFS) with Pig, Perl and Java
• Use some basic methods (IDF, TFIDF, BM25) to do data mining, and also combined with
other useful formulas by eye-viewing the data, then build a high quality Entity database
• Design methods to extract the closest meaning Entity from a query, also a lot data mining
work here and finally build a Oozie workflow
Continuous Direction-Aware Search (Tsinghua University) July 2013 to June 2014
A research on getting query result more efficiently when people are moving forward in different
directions and searching keywords at the same time (C++)
• Read papers about Top-k key word search and different ways of building index
• Built inverted index for map data and coded direction aware top-k search based on IR-Tree
• Design safe region algorithm for top-k answers
• Tested 100 million map data to verify the program
PROJECTS
Build Inverted Index for Crawled Web Pages (NYU)
• Load compressed web pages into main memory and uncompressed them (C++)
• Parse HTML pages and extract all words, build an inverted index for each word with
document ID and all occurring positions, then sort, compress and store index into disk
• Main memory is less than total size of all web pages, so need to parse them separately, and
sort all index which are in separate files by several phases (using merge sort)
Web Crawler (NYU)
• Implement a basic focused web crawler based on web pages’ score (Python)
• Handle duplicate pages, robot.txt, different file types and ambiguity of URLs
Traffic Signs Recognition Based on System on Programmable Chip (BUPT)
A traffic signs recognition system for Intelligent Car (C)
• Led a four-member team, communicated with professor, and arranged weekly meetings
• Handled image processing and coded the preprocessing of the images and shape
• Reduced the computation complexity of the shape detection algorithm and wrote the
conclusion report for the final project
SKILLS
• Experienced in Hadoop HDFS, Pig (write UDF using Java and Perl)
• Proficient in object-oriented programming (C++ and Java)
• Strong knowledge in Machine Learning, Web Search Engine and Data Mining
• Familiar with Python, Perl, MySQL
