YCIS Shanghai believes in providing a well rounded education for its pupils, as they provide them with the skills and knowledge necessary to achieve great things in their adulthood. This begins in the early years of education, with a specially designed program for Early Childhood Education, and carries through our primary and secondary schools.
2. Our Policy
Our mix of Eastern and
Western educational
philosophies in our
Kindergartens builds
the academic,
intellectual and
personal foundations
of our students.
This begins in our
early years education
and carries through
our primary and
secondary schools.
YCIS believes in
providing a well
rounded education for
our pupils, which
provides them with the
skills and knowledge
necessary to achieve
great things in their
adulthood.
3. The Kindergarten stages
2
• This will often be a child’s first experience of school.
• Teachers focus on bilingual language skills and communication
by using story books, play, and “show and tell” activities
3
• Creative and emotional skills are built in this stage through play
and problem solving challenges.
• Independence is also encouraged in this stage.
4
• Continued development from stages 2 and 3.
• Stories are used in our literacy syllabus.
• Preparation for primary school begins in the last 3 months.
4. The Kindergarten Environment
The Kindergarten
environment is key to the
development of the skills
that will help create
academic success during
school education and
university which would be
harder to achieve without
attending our
Kindergartens.
By driving our
education with
the interests of
children, we
instil a lifelong
love of learning.
Through our
methodology of
explorative play in
the classroom, our
students are able
to follow their
natural curiosity
learn for
themselves.
5. Academic Benefits
The development of problem-
solving skills will help our
students in a wide range of
subjects during their
education. This will aid
academic performance as
their ability to think and
strategise is increased
The preparation for
primary school taken in
the final 3 months of the
Kindergarten ensures that
students find the
transition easier.
The focus on building
academic skills is just one
strand of our balanced ECE
Programme. We also
encourage peer camaraderie
free of cultural boundaries
and bilingualism.
The instillation of a
love of learning aids
the rest of a student’s
education at YCIS and
university.
6. Worldly foundations
Our ECE Programme also provides our
students with a range of attributes which
will help in all aspects of life throughout
school and the wider world.
Allowing children the space to play
develops their emotional skills as they
learn how to share, to be patient and to
respectfully interact with others.
Child-led early years also allows for
greater development of individual
intuition and self-confidence.
7. Language Foundations
As part of our commitment to creating a well
rounded education, we prepare our students to
be bilingual in preparation for the skills they will
need in adulthood.
The bilingual education of our students starts
straight away, as young children are better able
to learn and retain languages than older children
and adults.
