- 3. What is HTML ? Hypertext Markup Language (HTML) is the standard markup language for documents designed to be displayed in a web browser . The language in which most websites are written. HTML is used to create pages and make them functional. HTML was first created byTim Berners- Lee in 1993 HTML provides a means to create structured documents by denoting structural semantics for text such as headings, paragraphs, lists, links, quotes and other items.
- 4. HTML • HTML describes the structure and format of aWeb page. • It consists of a series of elements. • Its element tell the browser how to display the content. ▪ HTML elements label pieces of content such as "this is a heading", "this is a paragraph", and "this is a link", etc.
- 5. HTML Syntax HTML is using tags for its syntax. A tag is composed with special characters: <, > and /.They are interpreted by software to compose an HTML element. HTML elements HTML elements usually come in tag pair. For opening a simple element with a start tag ▪ it starts with < ▪ then a list of characters without space i.e. the tagname (or element) ▪ ends usually with a >.
- 6. HTML Syntax Then closing the simple element with an end tag ▪ it starts with </ ▪ then the same list of characters without space, the tagname (or element) ▪ ends usually with a >. e.g., If the tagname is "cite", then we get, <cite></cite>
- 7. Structure of HTML An HTML Document is mainly divided into two parts: ▪ HEAD:This contains the information about the HTML document. For Example,Title of the page, version of HTML, Meta Data etc. ▪ BODY :This contains everything you want to display on the Web Page. Tags in HTML Tags are one of the most important part in an HTML Document. HTML uses some predefined tags which tells the browser about content display property, that is how to display a particular given content.
- 8. For Example, to create a paragraph, one must use the paragraph tags(<p> </p>) and then to insert an image one must use the img tags(<img />). There are generally two types of tags in HTML: ▪ PairedTags:These tags come in pairs.That is they have both opening(< >) and closing(</ >) tags. ▪ SingularTags:These tags do not required to be closed.
- 9. STRUCTURE OF WEB PAGE The page always begins with the start tag of the html element and always terminates with the end tag of the html element . Everything about the <html> web page should be ....web page.... enclosed here </html>
- 10. STRUCTURE OF WEB PAGE Inside the <html></html> tag each web page has a body described in <body></body> tag <html> <head> <title> PageTitle </title> </head> <body> This is a sample of HTML file. <body> The content of the whole web page should be put here.
