This document presents information on testing the performance of jatropha oil in a journal bearing instead of synthetic oil. It includes an introduction to journal bearings and the issues with synthetic oils. The objectives are to calculate and test the load carrying capacity, pressure distribution, and maximum pressure of jatropha oil compared to existing lubricants. The methodology involves analytical calculations and experiments on a journal bearing tester at different loads and RPMs. The literature review found jatropha and other bio-oils have beneficial tribological properties compared to mineral oils. The expected conclusion is the experiment will show jatropha oil has higher maximum pressure distribution and load carrying capacity, indicating it can be a suitable alternative bio-lubricant for journal bear
