8. WorthingThing, What do you want?
• The status quo
• More structure
• Talks
• Elevator pitches
• New venue
• Better website, profiles of regulars?
• Something else…
Thanks for coming, for those that don’t know me. I’m Mark Ford, and this… is my fault. This is WorthingThing but, not as we know it. And, so I thought we’d start with a little history lesson
Waaaay back in March 2007 I joined Twitter. In 2008, twitter had taken off & decided to find out if there were any other twitter users in Worthing.I started searching for people mentioning the town & I met David. And we decided to arrange a tweetupSo we, and a few other people met at the Burlington hotel on a stormy august night for a bit of a chat. It was good.So we did it again, in a pub & more people came
Things carried on like this for a couple of years. Every now and again I’d set up a tweetup, but they were infrequent and disorganised, different times of the month & different venues.
At the end of 2009 We found The Biz a little restaurant with a bar. We decided to make it our permanent home. Set on the last Thursday of the month as our meeting date & changed the name to WorthingThing to remove the emphasis from twitter. We regularly got 15 or 20 people along
The Biz closed down.We became homeless and our numbers dwindled. Which is a shame
I would love WorthingThing to grow and I’m guessing that those of you that are here tonight would like to see that too.So, what do we do? We can continue as we are: meeting in a pub every month for drinks, but judging by the numbers attending in(c the last few months this may not be enough.[click]I have a question.
