William Shakespeare was an English playwright, poet and actor born in 1564 in Stratford-upon-Avon. He wrote 37 plays and 154 sonnets over the course of his career in London from 1585 until his death in 1616. His plays are categorized as comedies, tragedies and histories and include famous works such as Romeo and Juliet, Hamlet, Macbeth, King Lear and A Midsummer Night's Dream. He is considered one of the greatest writers in the English language.
