Activities to be delivered:
Awareness raising
Volunteers will raise awareness in their ACD’s on various
global development issues or on SDG’s.
They will also conduct lessons to farmers on developing
specific skills and marketing tools.
Through CAD’s, volunteers will aid networking of hotel and
local restaurants with local farmers and their produce.
Training
The Volunteers will be training farmers on how to produce
organic fertiliser, organic pesticides, how to store and
package their products, how to keep records and also how to
promote and market their products competitively.
Volunteers will be teaching the farmers different soft skills
including leadership, entrepreneurship, negotiating,
budgeting and business plan skills amongst a few. They will

o ACD’s each Friday to peers to raise awareness on issues they choose. May be related to any
topic of SDG’s or may be around the importance of buying local produce for the local
economy to the community in CAD’s.
o At least 3 Community Action Days (CAD’s) will be run where volunteers can help to
encourage the local community to buy local while explaining the significance of ICS CASH
project. Aim from this is to also help local farmers build networks with local commercial
large businesses.
o We also aim to reach out to other forms of media coverage such as radio stations or blogs
to help raise awareness of the CASH project and our achievements. We will be using media
contacts we have found to ensure they are broadcasted in the local stations.
A total number of 8 ACDs and 3 CADs will be conducted during this cycle and total number of
3 aired news on our events will be achieved.
Training
o The farmers will gain new knowledge and get to practise new ways on how to increase
their productivity by applying the organic fertiliser which is environmentally friendly
o Farmers will gain knowledge on how to keep records and why they should keep records
of their production, harvest and sales.
o Also the marketing lessons to farmers will teach them how to promote their own
products in the local market and commercially by teaching the soft skills needed to
increase their market base. The business plan training will be conducted to those groups

then help them to know where to apply them, to develop
their business and become self-sufficient.
Teaching farmers to utilise existing resources and build on
them such as the marketing and tourist calendar.
Storage and Packaging training will also be delivered to
farmers supported by the packaging expert in VSO.
Action Research
Volunteers will conduct KAP surveys with the farmers in the
first and last week of the placement to assess the knowledge
and current needs of the farmers and their processes used.
Mobile Platform
Mobile platform team will work with the PMC and try to get
more of what is to be communicated to the farmers
who want it with the aim to increase practise and knowledge of the requirements for
loan application and prepare farmers to write their own business plans and be able to
acquire loans and other benefits.
o Farmers will be able to communicate and conduct business in a friendly environment
and know exactly how to confront the market and also to persevere in the current
competitive market.
o Volunteers will be exploring potential new products and branding opportunities within
their farming groups. They will also be following up on the previous cycle’s ‘Mr. Pili Pili’
chilli sauce brand with the aim to start introducing it to the market with proper
marketing strategies and promotions.
o A total number of 45 sessions will be delivered to a total of 9 groups of farmers in 10
weeks.
Action Research
o KAP survey will produce a baseline to assess the current practises and situation of the
farmers, what are they currently using and cultivating. It will also help identify individual
needs, strengths and mainly their challenges.
o A second KAP survey will be produced at the end of the cycle to measure the change
and the impact that the 12 week project has had.
A total number of 2 KAP Survey will be produced to measure the level of the knowledge
impacted the farmers.
Mobile Platform.
o To keep an on-going source of data and tips for the farmers to receive updates and
improve their own methods in farming.

Resource development
ICS volunteers will produce publications and materials that
will educate local community about the importance of buying
local fruits and vegetables to support the indigenous farmers
and also raise awareness about the project.
The Volunteers will also produce publications which will help
to raise awareness of the respective partner organization and
VSO ICS. This will also include building on the current mobile
platform for farmers.
Community networks & mobilisation
The team will maintain and strengthen existing networks and
partnership with other NGO’s, while building new networks
with other small holder local farmers and the members of the
local community through CADs. They will share skills,
techniques and advice within and out of groups.
We will also aim to have at least 5 speakers e.g. a doctor to
promote good practices and benefits of less chemical use etc.
A total number of 6 messages will be sent to all farmers with tips and market prices, 10 hotels
will be added to the mobile platform database
Resource development
The following resources will be developed by the end of the cycle
o 3 newsletters that inform/raise awareness about work of the farmers and advertising
local produce.
o 3 posters advertising the CAD events to promote local farmers.
o 1 handout to use during CAD identifying and promoting the work of VSO ICS and the
CASH project to local people.
A minimum of 7 publications should be developed by the end of the cycle.
Community networks & mobilisation
o 5 more new networks (including local speakers) of individuals or organisations will be
established by the end of the cycle. Output aimed to increase awareness of dangers and
to improve individual farmer’s practises.
o The farmers will unite also during the training sessions, since it will unite farmers from
nearby allocated areas who will also receive both theoretical and practical so as to
improve their livelihood status and turn their farming practise to commercial.
