LIFE THROUGH THE BACK WINDOW
F-E-A-R
Has 2 meanings …..
Forget Everything And Run
Or
Face Everything And Rise.
The choice is yours.
Fear andpainis twothingsthat are verycommoninour lives. Fearbeingthe numberone thingthat
numbsus andpain the one thingthat remindsusthatwe are humanbeings.
Painishoweverone those thingsthatwe can manipulate. Paincaneitherstopusor motivate us.
Wayde van Niekerkwill neverhave beenthe recordholderinthe 400m if he listenedtopain. Painis
a chemical processinyourbrain thateffectivelytellsyourbodytotake a break. Human beingshave
overtime stoppedhere. Initiallyhoweveritwassomethinglike this:
Hunt the dear – the dear runsfast – muscle pain – stop– assess– run faster– that is mydinner.
Today itis like this:
Hunt the dear – the dear runsfast – muscle pain – stop– assess– buyKFC.
Painofteninitialisesfear. Painisaphysical feeling,whereasfearisa primaryemotion. Emotions
happenbecause of ourobservations. Emotionscannotbe self-generated. Somethinghappens,we
react and we have emotions. Comingbacktoour previousexampleof huntingthe dear,we
experience painandassessoursituation. Because of fear,we runfaster. The fearwe experience
here isthe one that if we don’thuntthe dear,we are goingto be hungryfora longwhile.
Fear isthe exactopposite of faith. Faithisto believe thatsomethingwillhappenof whichthe
evidence isnotclear. Fearto believe somethingbadwill happen, althoughthe evidence isnotclear
yet.
The scary part is,whatyou fearusuallyhappens. The reasontherefore isthatfearisvisionbased.
What youenvisionediswhatwill transpire. If youfearthatyou will die inataxi accident, myopinion
will be,goodluckforusingpublictransport. Or rather, stay awayfrom publictransportuntil you
conqueredyourfear.
Fear takesourpainthat we experienceanduse itagainstus. Societyrulessuggestedovertime that
it isfine toexperience painandtostop. We do not assesswhatcausedour paininthe firstplace
anymore. We stop andwe sayto ourselvesthatthe painistoo much, ratheravoidthat avenue. My
dearfriendthatis howwe create what we referto as ourcomfort zone. We become accustomedto
our pain, andcreate a ‘friendly’environmentsurroundedbypain.
Can we thenchoose the opposite? Canwe stopwhilstwe experience painandassessandmake a
positive decision?
Yes,by simplystartingtoevaluate yourcomfortzone. Are youreallyhappywhere youare now?
What paincausedyou to make the decisionthatcreatedyourlifestyle? Youcan have moneybut
deepdownyouare actuallyveryunhappy.
To conclude: What optionare youpickingwhenyouthinkof F-E-A-R?Are yougoingtoForget-
Everything-And-Runorare yougoingto Face-Everything-And-Rise! ArticlewaswrittenbyWillem
