Introduction
For centuries, a correlation between social class and academic achievement has existed and has been thoroughly studied. In addition to this it is known
that the differences that exist between social classes, influences the educational outcomes in students. For example, low–class families cannot always
afford nutritional food or have access to proper educational resources or facilities, which leaves students in a disadvantage when compared to their
privileged peers. Furthermore, academic contexts can also hamper the academic achievements of the students that come from low–class families and
facilitate the academic success of privileged students. The problem eradicates in the fact that the education system inherently favors cultural norms that
are far more likely present in students that come from middle–class families. Some examples of the norms that are appreciated in schools are things
like, body posture, hygiene, appreciation for art and literature, broad vocabularies and school knowledge. These traits that typically pertain to the
middle–class families are known as the cultural capital. Students with high cultural capital not only have an inherent advantage over less–privileged
students, but are also considered smarter (Goudeau, Croizet, 2017, p. 163).
Hypothesis Given the uneven cultural backgrounds and intellectual foundations that students have, researcher hypothesized that, "school fuels the
social–class achievement gap by enabling unfair social

Marcus has had 2.5 cumulative GPA throughout college. Often times, he had been led by stress, sports, and other factors. Homework constantly
stresses him, and he worries that he will never be able to turn around his GPA even more. When he graduates, he wants to have a decent job to
support himself, but every time he does an assignment the same results occur: his homework is late, and his grades are low. He feels the situation is
hopeless. He is wrong. Are you in a similar situation? Today is a new day, and you can turn things around with these simple steps:
Decide that being on the Dean's List is one of the most important achievements for your academic career.
oIf you did poorly in High School, now is the chance to turn those bad grades and habits around; you've got to decide that today is a new day, and
that you are fully capable to do college coursework. o Know that many employers look at Undergraduate transcripts to get an understanding of how fit
each graduate is to perform in jobs that they want to hire into. o It gives you confidence to deal with life. Once you're on the Dean's List, you feel
confident that you can overcome challenges, and be semi–professional: companies won't take people who do poorly in school. o According to Dr.
Keller, The Dean of Humanities, grades are a symptom of learning.
Make sure you know what the minimum requirement is for your school's Dean's List.
oRochester College's minimum Dean's List requirement is a 3.3 GPA for each

Essay On Academic Achievement
Throughout my academic career, it has always been my mission to perform at my best ability. I did this not only for myself, but also for my family
and friends who put their faith in my capacity to achieve success. It was my family that raised me to be family–oriented and to give my spare time to
those that may need my help. By applying for the Delta Epsilon Sigma Honor Society, I am continuing to strive for the highest level of excellence
possible in academics and service to the community.
Through my grades and persistence, I have proven that academic excellence is a pivotal part of my education. I believe that I have achieved
outstanding academic achievement through my ongoing evolution as a student, my motivation to better myself, and my desire for success. From
freshman year to junior year, I have evolved and changed in order to learn more effectively and perform better inside and outside of the classroom.
The dynamics of college classes are far different from what I had experienced in high school. This required me to adapt to the higher level of
thinking that was expected from me. Since freshman year of college, I have actively sought out new study methods in order to understand classroom
material. I realized that simply memorizing the material for one test would not be beneficial to me in my future career of nursing, so I began to
actively understand the material. Adapting to the higher level of education I have received in college has helped me become a more

Many people wonder about the factors that play a vital role in the Academic Achievement of a Person, come to think of it there are quite a few factors
that are essential for an academically successful life, they can be Parental Influence, Student motivation, Peer Effect, the geographical location or
health, all of the above–mentioned factors can be crucial in a student academic life, but we may say that Parental Influence and Student Motivation are
the most important ones. Adolescence is the time in which a child is going through the period of growth, this is the time when parental influence is all
that matters because whatever the child sees or hears is going to shape his way of thinking, continuous support from parents play a pivotal role in
academic achievement. Student Motivation can be categorized as the second most important factor in the academic achievement of a child, without
motivation no one has ever been able to do anything that really matters because motivation in a person arises when the person really wants to do
something to achieve something that matters, be excellent in academics. Let's talk about the influence of parents on the academic achievement of a
child. Come to think of it parents can either provide the child with a positive influence or a negative influence, it solely depends on the parents. Some
studies show that students spend a small portion of time in schools, while there may be no doubt that school is the most important provider

5* Describe the most significant challenge you have faced and the steps you have taken to overcome this challenge. How has this challenge affected
your academic achievement?
Due to the naivety of youth, I was unaware of the stark reality of my living arrangements and disposition in life. I was from a lower class Hispanic
family that lived in a garage that had been altered by my aunt to accommodate our small family. For up to twelve years of my life, that dingy place
was the only place that seemed to make sense. My fondest memories were in that place but I constantly my worst episodes took place there too. People
constantly pitied me and I never understood their pity until ––I hit middle school––I was in a dysfunctional family and I could never have a true sense
of normalcy. This was because my father was a drug dealer and cheater, who constantly would go out drinking while we stayed at home waiting
dutifully. Under the veil of ignorance to his disgusting nature, I frequently spoke highly of him and believed he was my hero. Despite the constant
fear of wondering if we would have to live in our car or if we'd have food that month and wondering where he stayed the night, I was at peace.
Things seemed to be going fine and this illusion I had created about being well off was a like a placebo that made me stay complacent. But that all
changed during middle school, on the day before I started seventh grade, my dad confessed to having an affair with a nineteen–year–old––which

Importance of Academic Achievement Academic success, according to Reiger, has been strongly associated with the positive goals a person would
want to achieve in life. An adult with high academic achievements have been known to have better employment opportunities in their desired field of
work, they would also be likely to have a higher salary in work which in turn gives them independence from other people.
Factors that Affect Academic Performance Learning facilities, communication skills and proper guidance from parents have been discovered to have a
positive impact on a student's academic performance. Learning facilities have the biggest affect on a student's academic performance followed up by
communication skills and guidance from parents. (Singh, S & Malik, Savita & Singh, Priya. ,2016). According to McNeal, parent– involvement
specifically parent–child discussions have a great effect on a student's attitude, behavior and achievements. It is found that parent–involvement affects
the attitude and behavior more than it affects the achievements of the student. It was also discovered that parent–involvement may have long–term
affects and influence on the student or child. The student's family characteristics affect the quality of the student's achievement. Characteristics such as
Social Economic Status of their family have a significance to the student's performance. It was found the higher the Social Economic Status, the better
the student can perform. The study also revealed that parent's education has some effect to the student while parent's occupation has little or minimal
effect on the students performance. (Farooq, Chaudhry, Shafiq, & Berhanu, 2011) Top performing schools, compared to low performing schools, put
more emphasis on: instructional leadership, focus on school mission and vision, safety and orderliness of schools, expectations for success,
home–school relations, and opportunity to learn for 79 students. This kept the students and the teachers focused and committed in their academics in
school. (Nyagosia, 2011)

Participation in sport and physical activity is commonly promoted for its positive impact on children's mental and physical health, leaving its impact on
cognitive advancement often overlooked. The reason for this is predominantly the increase of anxiety on schools and educators to ensure children
accomplish academic achievement (Martin, 2010). In this literature review I will be looking at the impact physical activity and physical education has
on the academic achievement and health of primary aged students. My research question is; what impact does physical activity and physical
education have on the academic performance and health of primary aged students? Firstly I will discuss whether or not it impacts academic
achievement, and later on I will examine the specific academic and health impacts. I will predominantly be examining and critically analysing six
pieces of literature. This literature review reports on research undertaken by Dottie Gonzalesz (2009), Eero Haapala (2012), Jennifer Etnier (2003),
Dr Karen Martin (2010), Stead & Nevill (2010), and Phillip D Tomporowski, Catherine L. Davis, Patricia H. & Jack A. Naglieri
(2008).
For the first part of this literature review I will be looking at whether or not physical activity has an impact on students academic performance. The
immense majority of published literature regarding this concept has shown a progressive affiliation between children's physical activity and their

Anxiety and Its Affect on Academic Achievement
Roger Morales
University of Texas Rio Grande Valley
Abstract
Anxiety is a common occurrence today especcially among students in a college or university. Even though there has been some studies into anxiety
and how it affects a person 's academic achievement there needs to be more done in order to know better the relationship between them. Self
questionnaires will be handed out to all participants who agreed to participate and their academic progress will be monitored during the course of the
study in order to determine what kind of relationship there is between anxiety and academic achievement.
Anxiety and Its Affect on Academic Achievement
In society today anxiety is a fairly common occurrence. Almost everyone has anxiety in one form or another. For a lot of people anxiety is often
viewed as something negative impacting their lives. Anxiety for a lot of people can make an experience a negative one. Anxiety can have negative
impacts on a person 's life and that means it can also have a negative effect in the classroom. Anxiety is often part of the learning process. Usually there
is not much thought into how social anxiety plays a role in the learning process. Social anxiety can discourage students to engage in and prevent them
from learning. What effects anxiety has on academic achievement are not always readily apparent but they can have a negative influence on academic
performance. It is important to know the

Development of this trait is greatly struggling in huge classed auditory. In addition of coming along with own fears, student have to make way
through his opponents in a face of his peers in order to deliver the idea he devised. So there is a link, in order to develop the creativeness student must
speak. In small sized class lecturer can divide the class into groups engaging their interest to studying and just having fun, for example, by playing
informative games. By this way students fill themselves more comfortable and brave, while teacher can join any conversation held in teams,
discussing and even debating. So there is no way of just sitting and listening music on lessons somewhere in a back of the class. This can seem
anecdotal but such kinds of games are widely used by motivating companies such as "Success motivation" and "Association of Young Leaders", and
if they are so widespread, it is clear that they really do work. Of course games can also be held in a huge auditory, but it is die hard to look after, listen,
help and evaluate thirty–forty people in, mostly, one hour. Furthermore according to Jeremy Finn's and Charles M. Achilles' researches, children who
studied in small classes at the elementary levels outperformed better than their peers in large sized classes by one fifth deviation of the standard, not
stopping, they also continued to study better than their peers even if they were placed in normal sized class, while students from normal

Discipline Referrals and their effectiveness on Academic Achievement
Introduction Do using discipline referrals as a frequent classroom management philosophy increase student achievement scores? In today's schools
there are many theories about how to effectively handle a classroom. Teachers are given options across the educational discipline spectrum, but
ultimately are given the choice about how to effectively handle their own classroom management. One potential step in handling classroom discipline
is to write a referral that sends the student to the office. This allows other students in the class to learn effectively. Students witness these incidents and
are meant to be afraid. The theory is that this enhances student engagement through fear, which in turn increases students' academic achievement. In
this study, research will be done to identify whether an increase in classroom discipline referrals will also increase academic achievement scores.
Various studies in the past have used discipline as a means of studying academic achievement. In the study, Middle School Predictors ofHigh School
Performance: A Case study of Dropout Risk Indicators (2016), by McKee and Caldarella, a study was done to identify the indicators of students
dropping out. One such indicator they studied was absenteeism in a school. While referrals are the principal variable in this study, there is a correlation
between time spent in the classroom and student achievement. McKee and

striving for academic achievements. (Higgins, 2008) It is said that motivation gives big contribution in one individual's success. Motivation is defined

emotional arousal processes, and personal agency beliefs. It is an interactive construct representing the direction a person is going, the...show more

In conformity with the social norms, people learn by imitating others. However, people don't learn only the acceptable social behaviours, they may also
learn beyond the norms behaviours. Knowledge gained in this way will have the chance to be transferred to another situation. This may continue all the
time and everywhere. In the same vein, we can argue that students spend most of their time by learning. This can happen in different situations. It can
be seen in groups while with others. (Woldetsadik & Lumadi, 2014) In a school situation students continuously engage themselves in the learning
process. It can be observed when they do assignments, read books and do other related academic activities. Obviously, this is a regular process
exercised by most of the students in schools. However, the habit of doing these things can't happen at a time. It needs careful observation and
systematic exercise. All these efforts lead students to make their own meaning/understanding of the activities. Besides, it enables them to reach at a
level of sharing their own experiences and to become a continuous process.
In view of this, Battersby and Gordon (2006) have cited some of the specific situations that can develop experience within the school context. They
stated varied sources of experience. They believe that the identification of best characteristics of both teachers and students, either in group or
individually, in the first place

1) Describe the most significant challenge you have faced and the steps you have taken to overcome this challenge. How has this challenge affected
your academic achievement? My high school years, unlike the past years of steady achievements, felt much more like a sine graph with ups and
downs. To begin with, I conquered my freshman year in a breeze. My easily achievable classes not only earned myself confidence, but also
admiration and respect from my classmates and teachers. As a result, I comfortably acclimated myself to the status of a star student. Little did I expect,
however, that this ego boost would be so short–lived. As my classes became more demanding and academic achievements were no longer something I
could take for granted, I found it challenging to ask for assistance amidst this period of downfall. As a result, my grades plummeted all the way to a
dreaded D. Having traveled down a declining slope in my sophomore year, I was suddenly motivated to prop myself back up. I was for the first
time emancipated of my pride and began to actively search for means to amend my "defeat". When I finally received final semester grades, I was
proud of not simply the hard work I've put into achieving these grades, but more importantly, how I picked myself up and rose above the ebbs and
flows of my academic career. As much as I wished to live through uninterrupted success, I've come to accept with a much more open mind that the best

Introduction: Academic Achievement is the most important skill in every student's life. It helps us to discover more about the theories and certain
known facts and also to develop our personal growth. Academic study is a way of exploring, addressing and expressing ideas and a way of
communicating results and enjoys learning. The aims of Academic Study are to focus in becoming a well qualified degree holder, developing skills,
knowledge and even to enjoy learning. It requires hard work, self–discipline and time management. So, this essay is mainly based on the several aims
and ways of achieving academic success.

So every second is useful in this process. Another view is self discipline, which helps to be pro–active and honest in his/her process.
Likewise, Academic tasks are being done by self–dependent and also by dividing several teams. Both the tasks are important to ones Academic
success. First, if we take the self–dependent, it involves his/her individuality, we'll have a separate thinking which may be useful for you, but you can't
discuss with any one, whether it is correct or wrong. Alternatively, in the team work process, we can have a group discussion among our teammates. So
that, we'll skip over mistakes and other major uncertainty. Finally, both the tasks are important in achieving academic studies successful. In some high
schools, they blame the teachers, if a student doesn't perform well in his/her Academic studies.
Conclusion:
Finally, after viewing and describing the aims and the achievement of the Academic success, we conclude saying that in becoming a well qualified
degree holder and the task to achieve it, are the highly rewarding aims in Academic Achievement. Hard work, self discipline and time management
are the tasks for succeeding it. We have also talked about the size of the class, which may be useful for many of them. With a high level of
knowledge, one can lead a social life and can communicate in a professional method. So, these aims and tasks are the ways to achieve the Academic

classroom that supports student achievement. This paper will focus on what motivation means, how to get students motivated, and the impact of
motivation on student attitude both inside and outside the classroom. Also, the paper will address the place of the parent as role model and the impact
of their involvement on their children's education.

The theory encompasses three motivational orientations. First is the mastery goal which refers to students engagement in a lesson in order to master it
or just because they want to learn and understand the concept being taught. The second orientation is the performance goal where students enjoy
competition and want to outperform their peers. Finally, the performance approach to goal orientation indicates students trying to avoid failure and
getting classified as incompetent, and as a result they tend to set and embrace big goals for themselves.
On the other hand, the self–determination theory focuses on "the social and contextual factors that affect an individual's self–motivation and
psychological development" (Hoang, 2007). This theory examines what in particular drives student behavior, relatedness and competence (Hoang,
2007). Self–determination therefore includes a continuum that explains several student actions from external, identified, integrated, introjected to
intrinsic motivation (Hoang, 2007).
Relationship between Motivation and Achievement
An emergent body of research shows great academic achievement with students who have higher academic motivation either due to intrinsic
motivation or mastery orientation. The motivated students have better grade point averages, test scores as well as higher graduation rates (Alfaro,
2006). This positive relation

The controversial topic in the realm of physical education is if physical education should remain in schools. Higher up's are complaining about test
scores and suggesting that cutting physical education programs would lead to better test scores. Technically, this would lead to more time spent sitting
in a desk and listening to lectures in class, which is supposed to improve test scores. So, the solution to increase test scores is to take the small chance
of physical activity that children receive during the school day and keep them almost completely sedentary for six–plus hours. When physical activity
is restricted during school hours, children do not regain the lost physical activity after school, resulting in children who remain...show more content...
There is nothing more important than health, especially in this day and age. It's concerning that only 29 percent of high school students surveyed by
the CDC (2011) had participated in at least 60 minutes of physical activity on all seven days before the survey. The CDC also noted that only 31
percent of these high school students attended physical education class daily. Only 8 percent of elementary schools, 6.4 percent of middle schools, and
5.8 percent of high schools provide daily physical education to all of its students (SHPPS, 2000). The government is missing the fact that physical
education can actually improve test scores, not the opposite.
There was a study done in Mississippi with elementary and middle school students, whose aim was to find associations between health–related physical
fitness and academic achievement using standardized Language Arts and Math scores (Blom, Alvarez, Zhang, Kolbo, 2011). Besides thestandardized
test scores, objective measures of fitness were used, along with attendance records, discipline records and socio–demographic information of the area.
The participants included 2,992 Mississippi public school children in grades 3–6. The results indicated a strong positive correlation between fitness and
standardized test scores in Language Arts and Math. The more fit students had higher test scores and fewer absences overall. The study also revealed
that students with the lowest number

SOCIAL SKILLS: THEIR IMPACT ON ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT AND OTHER ASPECTS OF LIFE Introduction: We live in the society.
A child is born in a society and also grows up in the society. People initially learn something independently and eventually, that learning is modified
through communicating with the other members of the society. The goals and achievements of a person's life are affected by his behaviour in the
society. How a person behaves with others in the society depends on his social development. Social development depends on factors such as peer
relations, good social adjustment with others, emotional intelligence, family structure, social skills, etc. (Namka, 2009). Out of these factors, social
skills form the backbone of an individual's success. Social skills help in holding conversations with others, starting and maintaining relationships and
friendships. Basically Social skills are behaviors that promote positive interaction with others (Lynch and Simpson 2010). A person's good
behaviour helps in establishing good relations with others, which in turn helps him in acquiring new experiences and developing his true potentials
to improve his performance in various fields. Good social skills are very important for an individual for successful functioning in life, by learning
these skills a person comes to know how to make good decisions, good choices and how to behave in diverse situations. Social skills help to prepare

Socioeconomic Status And Academic Achievement
Introduction:
There are many different factors that affect a student's academic success in the education system. One of the main factors that play a part in a student
academic success is where their family lies on the socio–economic scale. "The components of socioeconomic status – income, parent education and
parent occupation – are each statistically significant predictors of student achievement (Buckingham, Wheldall, Beamnan–Whelldan, 2013).
Socioeconomic status defines not just the income of an individual but also that educational attainment, financial security, and subjective perceptions of
social status and social class (APA, 2017). Socioeconomic Status and Academic Achievement is an important topic to discuss as many of our students in
the education system are either on the bottom of the scale or the top and to find accurate resources to help these students succeed academically we have
to look at the research regarding socioeconomic status. Socioeconomic status affects the human functioning overall psychical and mental health. The
research has found that students from families with lower social economic status struggle more than those students who come from a higher social
economic status due to the slower development in academic skills as they are focused on so many different skills at one time than those who are from
higher socioeconomic status communities. Along with that, school systems in lower socioeconomic status neighborhoods are "often under resourced,

  • 2. Introduction For centuries, a correlation between social class and academic achievement has existed and has been thoroughly studied. In addition to this it is known that the differences that exist between social classes, influences the educational outcomes in students. For example, low–class families cannot always afford nutritional food or have access to proper educational resources or facilities, which leaves students in a disadvantage when compared to their privileged peers. Furthermore, academic contexts can also hamper the academic achievements of the students that come from low–class families and facilitate the academic success of privileged students. The problem eradicates in the fact that the education system inherently favors cultural norms that are far more likely present in students that come from middle–class families. Some examples of the norms that are appreciated in schools are things like, body posture, hygiene, appreciation for art and literature, broad vocabularies and school knowledge. These traits that typically pertain to the middle–class families are known as the cultural capital. Students with high cultural capital not only have an inherent advantage over less–privileged students, but are also considered smarter (Goudeau, Croizet, 2017, p. 163). Hypothesis Given the uneven cultural backgrounds and intellectual foundations that students have, researcher hypothesized that, "school fuels the social–class achievement gap by enabling unfair social Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. Marcus has had 2.5 cumulative GPA throughout college. Often times, he had been led by stress, sports, and other factors. Homework constantly stresses him, and he worries that he will never be able to turn around his GPA even more. When he graduates, he wants to have a decent job to support himself, but every time he does an assignment the same results occur: his homework is late, and his grades are low. He feels the situation is hopeless. He is wrong. Are you in a similar situation? Today is a new day, and you can turn things around with these simple steps: Decide that being on the Dean's List is one of the most important achievements for your academic career. oIf you did poorly in High School, now is the chance to turn those bad grades and habits around; you've got to decide that today is a new day, and that you are fully capable to do college coursework. o Know that many employers look at Undergraduate transcripts to get an understanding of how fit each graduate is to perform in jobs that they want to hire into. o It gives you confidence to deal with life. Once you're on the Dean's List, you feel confident that you can overcome challenges, and be semi–professional: companies won't take people who do poorly in school. o According to Dr. Keller, The Dean of Humanities, grades are a symptom of learning. Make sure you know what the minimum requirement is for your school's Dean's List. oRochester College's minimum Dean's List requirement is a 3.3 GPA for each Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 4. Essay On Academic Achievement Throughout my academic career, it has always been my mission to perform at my best ability. I did this not only for myself, but also for my family and friends who put their faith in my capacity to achieve success. It was my family that raised me to be family–oriented and to give my spare time to those that may need my help. By applying for the Delta Epsilon Sigma Honor Society, I am continuing to strive for the highest level of excellence possible in academics and service to the community. Through my grades and persistence, I have proven that academic excellence is a pivotal part of my education. I believe that I have achieved outstanding academic achievement through my ongoing evolution as a student, my motivation to better myself, and my desire for success. From freshman year to junior year, I have evolved and changed in order to learn more effectively and perform better inside and outside of the classroom. The dynamics of college classes are far different from what I had experienced in high school. This required me to adapt to the higher level of thinking that was expected from me. Since freshman year of college, I have actively sought out new study methods in order to understand classroom material. I realized that simply memorizing the material for one test would not be beneficial to me in my future career of nursing, so I began to actively understand the material. Adapting to the higher level of education I have received in college has helped me become a more Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 5. Many people wonder about the factors that play a vital role in the Academic Achievement of a Person, come to think of it there are quite a few factors that are essential for an academically successful life, they can be Parental Influence, Student motivation, Peer Effect, the geographical location or health, all of the above–mentioned factors can be crucial in a student academic life, but we may say that Parental Influence and Student Motivation are the most important ones. Adolescence is the time in which a child is going through the period of growth, this is the time when parental influence is all that matters because whatever the child sees or hears is going to shape his way of thinking, continuous support from parents play a pivotal role in academic achievement. Student Motivation can be categorized as the second most important factor in the academic achievement of a child, without motivation no one has ever been able to do anything that really matters because motivation in a person arises when the person really wants to do something to achieve something that matters, be excellent in academics. Let's talk about the influence of parents on the academic achievement of a child. Come to think of it parents can either provide the child with a positive influence or a negative influence, it solely depends on the parents. Some studies show that students spend a small portion of time in schools, while there may be no doubt that school is the most important provider Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 6. 2016 5* Describe the most significant challenge you have faced and the steps you have taken to overcome this challenge. How has this challenge affected your academic achievement? Due to the naivety of youth, I was unaware of the stark reality of my living arrangements and disposition in life. I was from a lower class Hispanic family that lived in a garage that had been altered by my aunt to accommodate our small family. For up to twelve years of my life, that dingy place was the only place that seemed to make sense. My fondest memories were in that place but I constantly my worst episodes took place there too. People constantly pitied me and I never understood their pity until ––I hit middle school––I was in a dysfunctional family and I could never have a true sense of normalcy. This was because my father was a drug dealer and cheater, who constantly would go out drinking while we stayed at home waiting dutifully. Under the veil of ignorance to his disgusting nature, I frequently spoke highly of him and believed he was my hero. Despite the constant fear of wondering if we would have to live in our car or if we'd have food that month and wondering where he stayed the night, I was at peace. Things seemed to be going fine and this illusion I had created about being well off was a like a placebo that made me stay complacent. But that all changed during middle school, on the day before I started seventh grade, my dad confessed to having an affair with a nineteen–year–old––which Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 7. Importance Of Academic Achievement Aranas, Bernard Cabrera, Rafael Gabas, Empress Chapter II: Review of Related Literature Review of Related Literature Importance of Academic Achievement Academic success, according to Reiger, has been strongly associated with the positive goals a person would want to achieve in life. An adult with high academic achievements have been known to have better employment opportunities in their desired field of work, they would also be likely to have a higher salary in work which in turn gives them independence from other people. Factors that Affect Academic Performance Learning facilities, communication skills and proper guidance from parents have been discovered to have a positive impact on a student's academic performance. Learning facilities have the biggest affect on a student's academic performance followed up by communication skills and guidance from parents. (Singh, S & Malik, Savita & Singh, Priya. ,2016). According to McNeal, parent– involvement specifically parent–child discussions have a great effect on a student's attitude, behavior and achievements. It is found that parent–involvement affects the attitude and behavior more than it affects the achievements of the student. It was also discovered that parent–involvement may have long–term affects and influence on the student or child. The student's family characteristics affect the quality of the student's achievement. Characteristics such as Social Economic Status of their family have a significance to the student's performance. It was found the higher the Social Economic Status, the better the student can perform. The study also revealed that parent's education has some effect to the student while parent's occupation has little or minimal effect on the students performance. (Farooq, Chaudhry, Shafiq, & Berhanu, 2011) Top performing schools, compared to low performing schools, put more emphasis on: instructional leadership, focus on school mission and vision, safety and orderliness of schools, expectations for success, home–school relations, and opportunity to learn for 79 students. This kept the students and the teachers focused and committed in their academics in school. Participation in sport and physical activity is commonly promoted for its positive impact on children's mental and physical health, leaving its impact on cognitive advancement often overlooked. The reason for this is predominantly the increase of anxiety on schools and educators to ensure children accomplish academic achievement (Martin, 2010). In this literature review I will be looking at the impact physical activity and physical education has on the academic achievement and health of primary aged students. My research question is; what impact does physical activity and physical education have on the academic performance and health of primary aged students? Firstly I will discuss whether or not it impacts academic achievement, and later on I will examine the specific academic and health impacts. I will predominantly be examining and critically analysing six pieces of literature. This literature review reports on research undertaken by Dottie Gonzalesz (2009), Eero Haapala (2012), Jennifer Etnier (2003), Dr Karen Martin (2010), Stead & Nevill (2010), and Phillip D Tomporowski, Catherine L. Davis, Patricia H. & Jack A. Naglieri
(2008). For the first part of this literature review I will be looking at whether or not physical activity has an impact on students academic performance. The immense majority of published literature regarding this concept has shown a progressive affiliation between children's physical activity and their academic achievement. • 10. Anxiety and Its Affect on Academic Achievement Roger Morales University of Texas Rio Grande Valley Abstract Anxiety is a common occurrence today especcially among students in a college or university. Even though there has been some studies into anxiety and how it affects a person 's academic achievement there needs to be more done in order to know better the relationship between them. Self questionnaires will be handed out to all participants who agreed to participate and their academic progress will be monitored during the course of the study in order to determine what kind of relationship there is between anxiety and academic achievement. Anxiety and Its Affect on Academic Achievement In society today anxiety is a fairly common occurrence. Almost everyone has anxiety in one form or another. For a lot of people anxiety is often viewed as something negative impacting their lives. Anxiety for a lot of people can make an experience a negative one. Anxiety can have negative impacts on a person 's life and that means it can also have a negative effect in the classroom. Anxiety is often part of the learning process. Usually there is not much thought into how social anxiety plays a role in the learning process. Social anxiety can discourage students to engage in and prevent them from learning. What effects anxiety has on academic achievement are not always readily apparent but they can have a negative influence on academic performance. Trying to be a pioneer at this pursuit for innovations a lot of long–lasting controversies occur between people while making the unique choice, the right one, and this is the human nature, the greatest advantage and drawback in one face – always to be dissatisfied and mistrusted, so that amends can be done to develop in a steady way and still continue to dream for the brighter future... In addition of coming along with own fears, student have to make way through his opponents in a face of his peers in order to deliver the idea he devised. So there is a link, in order to develop the creativeness student must speak. In small sized class lecturer can divide the class into groups engaging their interest to studying and just having fun, for example, by playing informative games. By this way students fill themselves more comfortable and brave, while teacher can join any conversation held in teams, discussing and even debating. So there is no way of just sitting and listening music on lessons somewhere in a back of the class. This can seem anecdotal but such kinds of games are widely used by motivating companies such as "Success motivation" and "Association of Young Leaders", and if they are so widespread, it is clear that they really do work. Of course games can also be held in a huge auditory, but it is die hard to look after, listen, help and evaluate thirty–forty people in, mostly, one hour. Furthermore according to Jeremy Finn's and Charles M. Achilles' researches, children who studied in small classes at the elementary levels outperformed better than their peers in large sized classes by one fifth deviation of the standard, not stopping, they also continued to study better than their peers even if they were placed in normal sized class, while students from normal Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 12. Discipline Referrals and their effectiveness on Academic Achievement Introduction Do using discipline referrals as a frequent classroom management philosophy increase student achievement scores? In today's schools there are many theories about how to effectively handle a classroom. Teachers are given options across the educational discipline spectrum, but ultimately are given the choice about how to effectively handle their own classroom management. One potential step in handling classroom discipline is to write a referral that sends the student to the office. This allows other students in the class to learn effectively. Students witness these incidents and are meant to be afraid. The theory is that this enhances student engagement through fear, which in turn increases students' academic achievement. In this study, research will be done to identify whether an increase in classroom discipline referrals will also increase academic achievement scores. Various studies in the past have used discipline as a means of studying academic achievement. In the study, Middle School Predictors ofHigh School Performance: A Case study of Dropout Risk Indicators (2016), by McKee and Caldarella, a study was done to identify the indicators of students dropping out. One such indicator they studied was absenteeism in a school. While referrals are the principal variable in this study, there is a correlation between time spent in the classroom and student achievement. McKee and Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 13. It is important for everyone especially students to do well in school because it reflects in the foundation of their accomplishments in life. Students are affect their ability to move to the next level when they fail to complete some requirements. It takes many factors to motivate individuals to continue on striving for academic achievements. (Higgins, 2008) It is said that motivation gives big contribution in one individual's success. Motivation is defined as the organized patterning of three psychological functions that serves to direct, energize, and regulate goal–oriented activity: personal goals, emotional arousal processes, and personal agency beliefs. It is an interactive construct representing the direction a person is going, the...show more content... In conformity with the social norms, people learn by imitating others. However, people don't learn only the acceptable social behaviours, they may also learn beyond the norms behaviours. Knowledge gained in this way will have the chance to be transferred to another situation. This may continue all the time and everywhere. In the same vein, we can argue that students spend most of their time by learning. This can happen in different situations. It can be seen in groups while with others. (Woldetsadik & Lumadi, 2014) In a school situation students continuously engage themselves in the learning process. It can be observed when they do assignments, read books and do other related academic activities. Obviously, this is a regular process exercised by most of the students in schools. However, the habit of doing these things can't happen at a time. It needs careful observation and systematic exercise. All these efforts lead students to make their own meaning/understanding of the activities. Besides, it enables them to reach at a level of sharing their own experiences and to become a continuous process. In view of this, Battersby and Gordon (2006) have cited some of the specific situations that can develop experience within the school context. They stated varied sources of experience. They believe that the identification of best characteristics of both teachers and students, either in group or individually, in the first place Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 14. 1) Describe the most significant challenge you have faced and the steps you have taken to overcome this challenge. How has this challenge affected your academic achievement? My high school years, unlike the past years of steady achievements, felt much more like a sine graph with ups and downs. To begin with, I conquered my freshman year in a breeze. My easily achievable classes not only earned myself confidence, but also admiration and respect from my classmates and teachers. As a result, I comfortably acclimated myself to the status of a star student. Little did I expect, however, that this ego boost would be so short–lived. As my classes became more demanding and academic achievements were no longer something I could take for granted, I found it challenging to ask for assistance amidst this period of downfall. As a result, my grades plummeted all the way to a dreaded D. Having traveled down a declining slope in my sophomore year, I was suddenly motivated to prop myself back up. I was for the first time emancipated of my pride and began to actively search for means to amend my "defeat". When I finally received final semester grades, I was proud of not simply the hard work I've put into achieving these grades, but more importantly, how I picked myself up and rose above the ebbs and flows of my academic career. As much as I wished to live through uninterrupted success, I've come to accept with a much more open mind that the best way to face challenges is to do so with Get more content on HelpWriting.net

Effective teachers do not only transfer knowledge to students, but are reflective and eager to understand their students so as to establish a culture in the classroom that supports student achievement. This paper will focus on what motivation means, how to get students motivated, and the impact of motivation on student attitude both inside and outside the classroom. Also, the paper will address the place of the parent as role model and the impact of their involvement on their children's education. Unfortunately these learning ...show more content... The theory encompasses three motivational orientations. First is the mastery goal which refers to students engagement in a lesson in order to master it or just because they want to learn and understand the concept being taught. The second orientation is the performance goal where students enjoy competition and want to outperform their peers. Finally, the performance approach to goal orientation indicates students trying to avoid failure and getting classified as incompetent, and as a result they tend to set and embrace big goals for themselves. On the other hand, the self–determination theory focuses on "the social and contextual factors that affect an individual's self–motivation and psychological development" (Hoang, 2007). This theory examines what in particular drives student behavior, relatedness and competence (Hoang, 2007). Self–determination therefore includes a continuum that explains several student actions from external, identified, integrated, introjected to intrinsic motivation (Hoang, 2007). Relationship between Motivation and Achievement An emergent body of research shows great academic achievement with students who have higher academic motivation either due to intrinsic motivation or mastery orientation. The motivated students have better grade point averages, test scores as well as higher graduation rates (Alfaro, 2006). This positive relation Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 17. The controversial topic in the realm of physical education is if physical education should remain in schools. Higher up's are complaining about test scores and suggesting that cutting physical education programs would lead to better test scores. Technically, this would lead to more time spent sitting in a desk and listening to lectures in class, which is supposed to improve test scores. So, the solution to increase test scores is to take the small chance of physical activity that children receive during the school day and keep them almost completely sedentary for six–plus hours. When physical activity is restricted during school hours, children do not regain the lost physical activity after school, resulting in children who remain...show more content... There is nothing more important than health, especially in this day and age. It's concerning that only 29 percent of high school students surveyed by the CDC (2011) had participated in at least 60 minutes of physical activity on all seven days before the survey. The CDC also noted that only 31 percent of these high school students attended physical education class daily. Only 8 percent of elementary schools, 6.4 percent of middle schools, and 5.8 percent of high schools provide daily physical education to all of its students (SHPPS, 2000). The government is missing the fact that physical education can actually improve test scores, not the opposite. There was a study done in Mississippi with elementary and middle school students, whose aim was to find associations between health–related physical fitness and academic achievement using standardized Language Arts and Math scores (Blom, Alvarez, Zhang, Kolbo, 2011). Besides thestandardized test scores, objective measures of fitness were used, along with attendance records, discipline records and socio–demographic information of the area. The participants included 2,992 Mississippi public school children in grades 3–6. The results indicated a strong positive correlation between fitness and standardized test scores in Language Arts and Math. The more fit students had higher test scores and fewer absences overall. The study also revealed that students with the lowest number Get more content on HelpWriting.net

  • 21. Socioeconomic Status And Academic Achievement Introduction: There are many different factors that affect a student's academic success in the education system. One of the main factors that play a part in a student academic success is where their family lies on the socio–economic scale. "The components of socioeconomic status – income, parent education and parent occupation – are each statistically significant predictors of student achievement (Buckingham, Wheldall, Beamnan–Whelldan, 2013). Socioeconomic status defines not just the income of an individual but also that educational attainment, financial security, and subjective perceptions of social status and social class (APA, 2017). Socioeconomic Status and Academic Achievement is an important topic to discuss as many of our students in the education system are either on the bottom of the scale or the top and to find accurate resources to help these students succeed academically we have to look at the research regarding socioeconomic status. Socioeconomic status affects the human functioning overall psychical and mental health. The research has found that students from families with lower social economic status struggle more than those students who come from a higher social economic status due to the slower development in academic skills as they are focused on so many different skills at one time than those who are from higher socioeconomic status communities. Along with that, school systems in lower socioeconomic status neighborhoods are "often under resourced, Get more content on HelpWriting.net
