Importance Of Page Layout
Perfecting a Layout with InDesign The layout of created components is key to finalizing a document and InDesign is the principal tool in building a
professional quality layout for print and digital publishing. Specialized artists, designers and publishers all rely on this software to manage images,
text, and all created assets into their preferred format. Working with the Creative Cloud Programs Illustrator and Photoshop, allow you to create and
alter assets with precision and control. However, there are many advantages in utilizing InDesign over these programs, for both manufacturing design
and bringing assets together for a print ready creation. The role of page layout is essential to a document of any kind. In design, a layout is how...show

These programs are linked, allowing you to make updates to your work in Photoshop or Illustrator and the changes are automatically updated in
InDesign. It will recognize most file types, making InDesign useful for professional designers to use as a tool to bring these elements together.
InDesign was created to lay out print quality work which is ideal for experienced users who are looking for perfection. Professionals take advantage
of this software to refine their work so that it is publication ready. As most professional designers know, InDesign may not give you the impactful
graphic utensils as an Illustrator or Photoshop, but it does offer many advantages. InDesign does offer great tools when it comes to enhancing a
photo's properties and even some filter options. Although you have the capability to design layouts with Photoshop or Illustrator, InDesign links all
creative assets outside of the work, creating a much more manageable size of document. This makes InDesign the most efficient software for
commercial printers as well, combining all media so that the layout is in the precise style you choose. InDesign recognizes your color selection much
better than other software, once again giving you more control with your final product. InDesign surpasses the other Adobe programs when it comes to
creations that are on a layout of more than one page. It also has the capability to automatically number the

Essay about Writing in Electrical Engineering
Writing in Electrical Engineering
Have you recently found yourself lost after high school, knowing that you want to go to college, but having no idea what to major in? I sure did! So
after reading through the NMSU undergraduate catalogue and asking peoples advice, I found out that our university has one of the top 5 engineering
colleges in the entire country and problems were solved! With a fascination of electronics and a steady hold on math, I decided that Electrical
Engineering was the choice for me. However, after completing my first semester and gaining a greater knowledge on what Electrical Engineering is all
about, I have a greater understanding of how important English and writing really are in this profession. Although...show more content...
Following this is English 218 Technical and Scientific Communication. In this class you learn to write in the same fashion that you would as a
professional in the engineering field. It is in this class that students learn to express technical terms and complicated information in a manner that can
easily be understood. The last required English class is English 265G which is entitled Principles of Human Communication. This final writing
requirement enables the student to communicate with other professionals, business clients, or just socially among other people. These English
classes will help any student be able to write effectively in his/her field as an electrical engineer. So what is the next logical step? Finding out what
writing is all about as an Electrical Engineer. To find out what kind of writing is expected from an Electrical Engineer, I looked through some of the
major periodicals in the Branson Library in the section TK which is for engineering oriented texts. In my interview with Dr. Prasad, he recommended
some of the more respected and popular periodicals read by most professionals in the field. His two top recommendations, Electronic Engineering and
Control Systems were both easily found in the library. Both magazines had the same essential layout as well as did the individual articles within them.

Work cell requires identification of families of products, high level of training, flexibility and empowerment of employees, being self–contained and
test (poka–yoke) at each station in the cell. Product–oriented layouts are organized around products or families of similar high–volume, lowvariety
products. The objective of the product–oriented layout is to minimize imbalance in the fabrication or assembly line. However, product layout can
handle only a few products and process designs. There are two types of a product–oriented layout. These are fabrication and assembly lines. Fabrication
line is a machine–paced, product oriented facility for building components. On the other hand, assembly line is an approach that puts fabricated parts
together at a series of workstations. It is used in repetitive processes. A well–balanced assembly line has the advantage of high personnel and facility
utilization and equity among employees' work loads. Assembly–line balancing is obtaining output at each workstation on a production line so delay is
minimized. Line balancing is usually undertaken to minimize imbalance between machines or personnel while meeting a required output from the line.

Layout Essay
You have made some decisions so far, and taken a step back from the process. You are ready to start again. So what now? It's time to start giving
serious work to the actual look and creation of the final artwork. Create means to make or bring into existence something new; to produce through
imaginative skill. You are going to bring your new artwork into existence through your imaginative skill.
Before you start work on the final product, there are a couple more things to do in this process. Take the rough thumbnail sketches you have already
created and begin to refine them and narrow down to the one you are actually going to use on the final product. If your sketches do not yet have color
and you plan to use color in your final product,...show more content...
Look at your creation with fresh eyes and as if you are seeing it for the first time. Analyze and question all of the parts one last time. Is there anything
that needs to be redone or corrected? Have you taken into account all critiques by both yourself and others? Are there any last refinements that need to
be made? And then keep plugging away till the artwork is complete.
Once you have finished some more detailed sketches and considered your overall layout, it is time to start having other people look at the work you
have completed so far. There can be times that we get so caught up in our creation that we do not ask ourselves all the right questions or consider
things we have not thought about so far. This is where getting some outside feedback can be extremely helpful. Ask your teacher, a fellow
classmate, parent, or even someone who has no art background at all to look at your artwork. These people will eventually be your audience so get
their feedback when you still have time to consider it and make changes if you agree with them. That is the great thing about feedback, it can help you
in areas that may still be weak, but it is ultimately up to you to decide how helpful the feedback is.
After getting feedback and considering it, keep working on your final creation. Then take some time to consider where you are in your time frame. Are
you on track to complete everything you wanted to? Do you need to

Plant Layout Essay
PLANT LAYOUT
Introduction –
Plant layout is very essential and needs consideration and attention from the very beginning so as to avoid subsequent problems. Though one can
think of several layouts but the best one is obviously the one, which is both very systematic and cheap. It is arrangement of machines, scientific use
of work area, easy and convenient transport system, easy sorting out of materials and processing different parts. Since the area has already been
selected and it is neither possible to neither change that nor expand that as per needs of the factory therefore layout is to be adjusted accordingly. Thus
layout is disposition of various facilities and services of the plant within the specified area. It...show more content...

Types of layouts
1)Process or functional layout
2)Product or line layout
3)Project or fixed position layout
A) Process or functional layout
Process layout also called " layout by function" is generally associated with batch production. The factory is divided into process units (or
departments), and within these process units all similar facilities are grouped together. Process, for example, is kept at one place; milling machines are
placed at another place; drilling machines are kept at third place; gear–cutting machines are located at fourth place; and so on and so forth. Process
type of layout is suitable when,
1)The products are non–standard, or
2)There are wide variations in the processing times of individual operations.
Advantages:
1.Lower capital investment on account of comparatively less number of machines and lower costs of general–purpose machines.
2.Higher utilization of available equipment.
3.Greater flexibility in regards to allocation of work to equipment and workers.
4.Breakdown of equipment, absenteeism of the workmen and/or non–availability of certain materials do not dislocate the manufacturing activity on the
shop floor.
5.Workers attain greater skills since

This method (switching two departments) is repeated until no further switches process can be made. The input required to generate a layout using
Optimum Sequence are mainly dimensions of the building and facilities, the material flow or frequency of trips between facility pairs and cost per unit
load per unit distance. This technique of optimum sequence is used to apply the supply chain which is a total of activities involved in producing goods

Product vs Process Layout
II.Introduction
Product Layout is not always better than process layout. I disagree with the statement. To understand the reasons behind why this is not true, this paper
details the concept of layout, differences between the layouts and applicability of product and process layout.
Facility layout is the physical arrangement of equipment, offices, rooms and other resources within an organization. It describes the location of
resources and their relationship to each other. Layout planning aims to organize the physical arrangement of facilities so that operations run as
efficiently as possible. The content section describes the reasons behind why the statement is not true.

Each product uses the facilities in a different sequence. Departments are arranged in such a way that each department performs the same activities or
processes. A common objective in designing such a layout is to arrange workcenters that have high interaction closer to each other so as to minimize
the flow of material.
Materials move between different departments depending on the process stages. For e.g they may go from Dept 3 to Dept 6 to Dept 4 and then again
to Dept 3 for some other process.
4.ADVANTAGES & DISADVANTAGES OF PROCESS LAYOUT
Advantages of process layouts include:
A variety of products can be made on the same facilities.
Operations continue if some equipment cannot be used because of breakdown or planned maintenance.
It is suitable for low volumes and variable demand.
People work in cohesive groups and generally enjoy the environment.
General purpose & flexible resources
Lower capital intensity & automation
Higher labor intensity
Resources have greater flexibility
Disadvantages of process layouts include:
Small batches give lower utilization of equipment and unit costs can be high.
Movement of jobs between operations is complicated, with larger stocks of work in progress.
Scheduling work on equipment is complicated and must be done continuously.
Controlling the work is difficult.
There is a lot of handling of products and materials.
Processing rates are slower
Material handling costs are higher

Layout Strategy
1. INTRODUCTION:
Strategy is about deciding where you want to go and how you mean to get there. A strategy is a declaration of intent: This is what we want to do and
this is how we intend to do it. Strategies define longer–term goals but they are more concerned with how those goals should be achieved. Strategy is
the means to create value. A good strategy is one that works, one that guides purposeful action to deliver the required result.
Moreover, companies everywhere are changing the way they manage in order to be more competitive. A key measure ofmanagement in the 1990s and
beyond lies in results attained relative to the opportunities and constraints created by rapid environmental change.
A primary way to gain competitive advantage is...show more content...
We will firstly discuss attracting and retaining and maintaining of employees.
The attraction of human resources involves the requisition of required human resource, further more it deals with: Recruitment Selection Hiring

Meanwhile retaining and maintaining is more about the utilisation and conservation of the organisation's Human resources such as performance and
appraisal management, training and development, career and succession management, compensation and reward, collective bargaining, communication
motivation and leadership, as well as maintaining sound relations.
Having established that, Vision Oil Company emphasises its HR strategy around cost effectiveness while attracting. We mean that as a large Company,

3 Newspaper Design Layouts: Gutenberg Diagram, Z–Pattern, And F–Pattern Several layout patterns are often recommended to take advantage of how
people scan or read through a design. 3 of the more common are the Gutenberg diagram, the z–pattern layout, and the f–pattern layout. Each offers
advice for where to place important information, but I think these patterns are often misunderstood and followed without thought to what they really
describe. I want to walk through the what and why of each pattern and then offer something else that gives you as a designer more control over where
your viewer's eye moves across your design. The Gutenberg Diagram The Gutenberg diagram describes a general pattern the eyes move through when

It's how we naturally read large blocks of text. This series of z–movements is sometimes referred to as a zig–zag pattern. If we continue to add more
zigs and zags to the pattern we ultimately end up with a series of near horizontal right and left movements as the diagonal portion of the z gets
shallower and shallower. Golden Triangle Pattern The z–pattern also leads to what's called a golden triangle pattern. If you take the first horizontal and
first diagonal movement and then close the shape you end up with a right triangle whose right angle is the top/left corner. This triangular area at the
top of the page will be the area most seen and the pattern suggests your most important information needs to placed inside of it. F–Pattern Layout The
f–pattern gets mentioned on the web and as you would expect it follows the shape of the letter F. I think Jacob Nielsen first suggested the pattern after
eye–tracking studies his company performed. What often gets lost in the f–pattern is that these original studies were done on text heavy designs and
search results. As with the other patterns the eye starts in the top/left, moves horizontally to the top/right and then comes back to the left edge before
making another horizontal sweep to the right. This second sweep

Production Layout At Coca–Cola LTD
Introduction
Coca–Cola has had problems of business layout in the past years in their branches in Ohio United States. This has led to them reconsidering relaying
out business processes. When problems arise in the business layout, it must be improved and this should be done continuously. The layout design
impact the way work is done in the system (Myers & John, 1994). The directors decided that layout must be done in accordance to the needs of the
people, materials, and customers of the company. The improvement is geared towards reducing the wastes that come along with the poor layout. When
changes are made, they should be geared towards ensuring that the business process is smooth and profitable. Usually, when this is done, the focus is
on the processes, materials and the people involved (Groover, 2009). The following paragraph shows the major challenges experienced with the
business process layout.
Coca–Cola being a chain store, the business could be going for customers or the customers coming for the services at the customer level. In some
instances for Coca–Cola, needs space for equipment, chemicals, and other materials. The company might also have a bias towards a given layout.
Since the company also deal with a retail outlet, it is important to establish the floor space and the foot traffic issues and the attractiveness of the retail

WHAT IS A PLANT LAYOUT? Plant layout refers to the arrangement of physical facilities such as machines, equipment, tools, furniture etc. in
such a manner so as to have quickest flow of material at the lowest cost and with the least amount of handling in processing the product from the
receipt of raw material to the delivery of the final product. A layout is the physical configuration of departments, workstations, and equipments in
the conversion process. It is the arrangement of physical resources used to create the product. Plant layout has to be planned in such a flexible way
so as to enhance the productivity, with minimum loss. It has to be planned in a way taking into consideration the inputs. Layout planning provides a
set of tools and techniques that help an operations manager to decide where to locate the resources and also to assess the impact of the alternative
choices that he/she may have for locating the resources. Typically, in case of manufacturing organizations, there may be over 100 machine tools that
need to be located in the area so as to ensure efficiency and effectiveness in the work being progressed. Similarly, in case of service organization such
as hospital, school, or a hotel, there are various resources to be physically located. We can identify these best possible locations for each of the
machines or

Layout of Websites
The layout of the website is quite simple but the best part about it is that this layout appeals the average person and it is quite easy for them to
understand and this is very effective. The website is clean and looks flawless. The people with no technical background appreciate these sorts of
websites a lot. The layout makes the visitor quite comfortable and makes them feel like they are in good hands and will be provided with all that is
needed. Thus the website is the representative of the firm that manages the volunteers and helps the needy children and providing them the health
facility, education and other care facilities. The design of the website is quite professional. The washed out image on the left side of the website of
a globe gives a very good appearance. Information quality of a website is the amount of information, and it is sufficient for the user. All the required
information and the guidelines are present in the website. The information quality in this website is great. The introduction of the firm, the
information about the major projects and the donation guidelines are all mentioned. The user is provided with all the necessary information that he
desires. Website Localization is a process in which the website is made feasible for the particular culture or language of the people of a specific area

school environment. Instead of having rows of desks that the student commonly have, I will have four half kidney shape desk that will make each
students more inclusive with other student. One of the main reason why students tend to feel left out from their peers deals with the fact that from
beginning of the schools day to the end, students are placed one behind the other and are skipping the communicating aspects with their fellow
classmates. Di Mascio states in his article titled Material Culture and Schooling: Possible New Explorations in the History of Canadian Education "
school desks are not simply pieces of furniture. They are, in a word, the locus of learning in the classroom. They are also the locus of order and
control" (DI Mascio, 84). His explanation of how significant desk are and how they are perceived can ultimately control the actions of a class. Di
Mascio continues to inform the reader about the importance of the spacing of desk. Assigning numerous students to a small table "maintained order by
making it difficult for students to move around, lest they disturb the work of others", and "provided optimum room for the teacher to move around the
classroom and monitor student work" (Di Mascio, 85). The kidney shape desk will give the students enough room/ privacy to complete their work,

STORES LAYOUT AND PRINCIPLES OF STORES
INTRODUCTION– STORES LAYOUT AND DESIGN
It means the design of a store's interior to encourage people to enter the store and expose them to the maximum variety of merchandise within the
space available. For example, some stores have the fresh fruit and vegetable display at the entrance because it is colorful and will attract people in
while other stores have fresh foods and other frequently bought items which are located inside the store so people will be exposed to all the other

Use of third dimension must be made effectively. Differentstorage facilities should be situated in clearly defined lanes, so that items are quickly stored
and located.
Main lanes should be 1.5 to 3 meters wide depending on the type of material and amount of traffic involved.
Clear markings should be made at storage space to facilitate location and identification.
The fast moving items should be stored near the dispensing window, the slow moving should be away from the window.
FEATURES OF STORES LAYOUT
According to Barton A. Weitz, director of the Center forRetailing Education and Research at the University of Florida in Gainesville, a store layout
should do these three things: Stimulate Impulse Purchases
One way retailers use layouts to entice customers to buy more than they intended is to draw them through the store so they'll see as many of the
products as possible.
Jewelry stores put their better products toward the back of the store to pull people in, he says, and supermarkets tend to put popular

COMPUTERIZED LAYOUT ANALYSIS TECHNIQUES
In the field of computerized layout analysis, a number of computerized layout programs have been developed since the 1960s and 70s. But the most
time tested computerized layout techniques and software program packages that are frequently used are– CRAFT, CORELAP, ALDEP, etc. Originally
developed in late 60's and early 70s, many of these packages are still around with latest additions to their features.
Layout problems often involve a given number of facilities which must be located in the plane. Each of these facilities has a given area,...show more

This technique only utilizes graphic and schematic analysis for materials flow but does present a well–organized enumeration of pertinent qualitative
factors. These factors are incorporated into a methodology for the determination of which sub–groups or departments most require adjacent placement
as well as for the evaluation of several proposed layout solutions.
CORELAP
CORELAP is Computerized Relationship Layout Planning. This algorithm is based on Muther's procedure given in Systematic Layout Planning. The
input requirements to CORELAP are –Number of departments and their area, Closeness relationship as given by REL–chart and Weighted ratings for
REL–chart entries.
Working with Corelap:
CORELAP (Computerized Relationship Layout Planning) is a simple method in facility layout and location discipline which is usually used to
design a factory and facility. As a facility of living, house should be designed by using CORELAP method. Following this is an example of house
design in 180m2 land (12 meters x 15 meters). There are 3 steps to design with CORELAP method such as plan the rooms, size, and room's
relationship; calculation and design the CORELAP; and draw a draft layout.
First, a house consists of 15 rooms that the name of room, size, and relationship are showed in the "Activity/Space Relationship Diagram" and
"Relationship Table" below. The rating of relationship between two rooms is sign as A, E, I, O, U, or X. The definition of "A" is absolutely

  • 3. Importance Of Page Layout Perfecting a Layout with InDesign The layout of created components is key to finalizing a document and InDesign is the principal tool in building a professional quality layout for print and digital publishing. Specialized artists, designers and publishers all rely on this software to manage images, text, and all created assets into their preferred format. Working with the Creative Cloud Programs Illustrator and Photoshop, allow you to create and alter assets with precision and control. However, there are many advantages in utilizing InDesign over these programs, for both manufacturing design and bringing assets together for a print ready creation. The role of page layout is essential to a document of any kind. In design, a layout is how...show more content... These programs are linked, allowing you to make updates to your work in Photoshop or Illustrator and the changes are automatically updated in InDesign. It will recognize most file types, making InDesign useful for professional designers to use as a tool to bring these elements together. InDesign was created to lay out print quality work which is ideal for experienced users who are looking for perfection. Professionals take advantage of this software to refine their work so that it is publication ready. As most professional designers know, InDesign may not give you the impactful graphic utensils as an Illustrator or Photoshop, but it does offer many advantages. InDesign does offer great tools when it comes to enhancing a photo's properties and even some filter options. Although you have the capability to design layouts with Photoshop or Illustrator, InDesign links all creative assets outside of the work, creating a much more manageable size of document. This makes InDesign the most efficient software for commercial printers as well, combining all media so that the layout is in the precise style you choose. InDesign recognizes your color selection much better than other software, once again giving you more control with your final product. InDesign surpasses the other Adobe programs when it comes to creations that are on a layout of more than one page. It also has the capability to automatically number the Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 4. Essay about Writing in Electrical Engineering Writing in Electrical Engineering Have you recently found yourself lost after high school, knowing that you want to go to college, but having no idea what to major in? I sure did! So after reading through the NMSU undergraduate catalogue and asking peoples advice, I found out that our university has one of the top 5 engineering colleges in the entire country and problems were solved! With a fascination of electronics and a steady hold on math, I decided that Electrical Engineering was the choice for me. However, after completing my first semester and gaining a greater knowledge on what Electrical Engineering is all about, I have a greater understanding of how important English and writing really are in this profession. Although...show more content... Following this is English 218 Technical and Scientific Communication. In this class you learn to write in the same fashion that you would as a professional in the engineering field. It is in this class that students learn to express technical terms and complicated information in a manner that can easily be understood. The last required English class is English 265G which is entitled Principles of Human Communication. This final writing requirement enables the student to communicate with other professionals, business clients, or just socially among other people. These English classes will help any student be able to write effectively in his/her field as an electrical engineer. So what is the next logical step? Finding out what writing is all about as an Electrical Engineer. To find out what kind of writing is expected from an Electrical Engineer, I looked through some of the major periodicals in the Branson Library in the section TK which is for engineering oriented texts. In my interview with Dr. Prasad, he recommended some of the more respected and popular periodicals read by most professionals in the field. His two top recommendations, Electronic Engineering and Control Systems were both easily found in the library. Both magazines had the same essential layout as well as did the individual articles within them. Essays written in the Get more content on HelpWriting.net

Work cell requires identification of families of products, high level of training, flexibility and empowerment of employees, being self–contained and test (poka–yoke) at each station in the cell. Product–oriented layouts are organized around products or families of similar high–volume, lowvariety products. The objective of the product–oriented layout is to minimize imbalance in the fabrication or assembly line. However, product layout can handle only a few products and process designs. There are two types of a product–oriented layout. These are fabrication and assembly lines. Fabrication line is a machine–paced, product oriented facility for building components. On the other hand, assembly line is an approach that puts fabricated parts together at a series of workstations. It is used in repetitive processes. A well–balanced assembly line has the advantage of high personnel and facility utilization and equity among employees' work loads. Assembly–line balancing is obtaining output at each workstation on a production line so delay is minimized. Line balancing is usually undertaken to minimize imbalance between machines or personnel while meeting a required output from the line. • 7. Layout Essay You have made some decisions so far, and taken a step back from the process. You are ready to start again. So what now? It's time to start giving serious work to the actual look and creation of the final artwork. Create means to make or bring into existence something new; to produce through imaginative skill. You are going to bring your new artwork into existence through your imaginative skill. Before you start work on the final product, there are a couple more things to do in this process. Take the rough thumbnail sketches you have already created and begin to refine them and narrow down to the one you are actually going to use on the final product. If your sketches do not yet have color and you plan to use color in your final product,...show more content... Look at your creation with fresh eyes and as if you are seeing it for the first time. Analyze and question all of the parts one last time. Is there anything that needs to be redone or corrected? Have you taken into account all critiques by both yourself and others? Are there any last refinements that need to be made? And then keep plugging away till the artwork is complete. Once you have finished some more detailed sketches and considered your overall layout, it is time to start having other people look at the work you have completed so far. There can be times that we get so caught up in our creation that we do not ask ourselves all the right questions or consider things we have not thought about so far. This is where getting some outside feedback can be extremely helpful. Ask your teacher, a fellow classmate, parent, or even someone who has no art background at all to look at your artwork. These people will eventually be your audience so get their feedback when you still have time to consider it and make changes if you agree with them. That is the great thing about feedback, it can help you in areas that may still be weak, but it is ultimately up to you to decide how helpful the feedback is. After getting feedback and considering it, keep working on your final creation. Then take some time to consider where you are in your time frame. Though one can think of several layouts but the best one is obviously the one, which is both very systematic and cheap. It is arrangement of machines, scientific use of work area, easy and convenient transport system, easy sorting out of materials and processing different parts. Since the area has already been selected and it is neither possible to neither change that nor expand that as per needs of the factory therefore layout is to be adjusted accordingly. Thus layout is disposition of various facilities and services of the plant within the specified area. It...show more content... Types of layouts 1)Process or functional layout 2)Product or line layout 3)Project or fixed position layout A) Process or functional layout Process layout also called " layout by function" is generally associated with batch production. The factory is divided into process units (or departments), and within these process units all similar facilities are grouped together. Process, for example, is kept at one place; milling machines are placed at another place; drilling machines are kept at third place; gear–cutting machines are located at fourth place; and so on and so forth. Process type of layout is suitable when, 1)The products are non–standard, or 2)There are wide variations in the processing times of individual operations.

To understand the reasons behind why this is not true, this paper details the concept of layout, differences between the layouts and applicability of product and process layout. Facility layout is the physical arrangement of equipment, offices, rooms and other resources within an organization. It describes the location of resources and their relationship to each other. Layout planning aims to organize the physical arrangement of facilities so that operations run as efficiently as possible. The content section describes the reasons behind why the statement is not true. III.Content Every organization has to consider the...show more content... Each product uses the facilities in a different sequence. Departments are arranged in such a way that each department performs the same activities or processes. A common objective in designing such a layout is to arrange workcenters that have high interaction closer to each other so as to minimize the flow of material. Materials move between different departments depending on the process stages. For e.g they may go from Dept 3 to Dept 6 to Dept 4 and then again to Dept 3 for some other process. 4.ADVANTAGES & DISADVANTAGES OF PROCESS LAYOUT Advantages of process layouts include: A variety of products can be made on the same facilities. Operations continue if some equipment cannot be used because of breakdown or planned maintenance. It is suitable for low volumes and variable demand. People work in cohesive groups and generally enjoy the environment. General purpose & flexible resources Lower capital intensity & automation Higher labor intensity Resources have greater flexibility
  • 13. Disadvantages of process layouts include: Small batches give lower utilization of equipment and unit costs can be high. Movement of jobs between operations is complicated, with larger stocks of work in progress. Scheduling work on equipment is complicated and must be done continuously. Controlling the work is difficult. There is a lot of handling of products and materials. Processing rates are slower Material handling costs are higher Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 14. Layout Strategy 1. INTRODUCTION: Strategy is about deciding where you want to go and how you mean to get there. A strategy is a declaration of intent: This is what we want to do and this is how we intend to do it. Strategies define longer–term goals but they are more concerned with how those goals should be achieved. Strategy is the means to create value. A good strategy is one that works, one that guides purposeful action to deliver the required result. Moreover, companies everywhere are changing the way they manage in order to be more competitive. Each offers advice for where to place important information, but I think these patterns are often misunderstood and followed without thought to what they really describe. I want to walk through the what and why of each pattern and then offer something else that gives you as a designer more control over where your viewer's eye moves across your design. The Gutenberg Diagram The Gutenberg diagram describes a general pattern the eyes move through when looking...show more content... It's how we naturally read large blocks of text. This series of z–movements is sometimes referred to as a zig–zag pattern. If we continue to add more zigs and zags to the pattern we ultimately end up with a series of near horizontal right and left movements as the diagonal portion of the z gets shallower and shallower. Golden Triangle Pattern The z–pattern also leads to what's called a golden triangle pattern. If you take the first horizontal and first diagonal movement and then close the shape you end up with a right triangle whose right angle is the top/left corner. This triangular area at the top of the page will be the area most seen and the pattern suggests your most important information needs to placed inside of it. F–Pattern Layout The f–pattern gets mentioned on the web and as you would expect it follows the shape of the letter F. I think Jacob Nielsen first suggested the pattern after eye–tracking studies his company performed. What often gets lost in the f–pattern is that these original studies were done on text heavy designs and search results. As with the other patterns the eye starts in the top/left, moves horizontally to the top/right and then comes back to the left edge before making another horizontal sweep to the right. Instead of having rows of desks that the student commonly have, I will have four half kidney shape desk that will make each students more inclusive with other student. One of the main reason why students tend to feel left out from their peers deals with the fact that from beginning of the schools day to the end, students are placed one behind the other and are skipping the communicating aspects with their fellow classmates. Di Mascio states in his article titled Material Culture and Schooling: Possible New Explorations in the History of Canadian Education " school desks are not simply pieces of furniture. They are, in a word, the locus of learning in the classroom. They are also the locus of order and control" (DI Mascio, 84).
