Cultural Identity Divide
Culture can be defined as a belief that allows you to identify who you are. Thus, through cultre there is self – discovery and belonging in a group of
persons who share the same belief system; who have found themselves and are now seeking to digest more about one another through eachother's'
unearthing of one's self. Culture assists you not only in identifying who you are, but the sort of people you can surround yourself with due to common
interests. In this society; I have witnessed cultural unity, cultural identity crisis' and moreover a cultural divide and surprisingly all of those fold
under the same umbrella in reagrds to knowing where you stand and those you choose to stand with. Currently, society is a huge caste system of
choices to be made, opinions to be had and decision making. Often, many are questioned of whose side they are on awhile many don't have the
opportunity to make that decision for they are often placed in a caste based off of appearances. This generation of millenials confuses the caste system
with electronics being in the forefront of their upbringing; self– discovery is no longer going to a park and playing with kids of similar interests on the
playground; but now finding yourself is depicted by the amount of followers, likes and/ or views you possess. Moreover, society now can also be
defined by who you follow, who...show more content...
The notion of picking a platform to represent your values and integrity and being a solo representation of those values and beliefs encourages one to

The Digital Divide Essay
Digital divide: This is the gap between those who have computer and internet access and those who do not. This is also whether people are computer
and technology literate or not and whether they have these facilities available to them.
Digital inclusion: This describes efforts made to help ensure everyone is able to understand and enjoy the use of computers and the internet and the
attempts made to reduce the digital divide. Digital inclusion involves citizens being able to use online facilities and know how to use them etc
The digital divide is caused by many things. A main cause of the digital divide is income level and cost meaning that people with a lower income are
disadvantaged in that they may not be able to afford a...show more content...
Democracy is also a factor effected by the digital divide since it may be easier for those with the benefit of technology to take part in elections and
making decisions than those without.
Economic growth is effected by the digital divide because productivity improvements tend to be associated with the use of Information technologies
and companies with these technologies may have advantage and can compete better.
One initiative to close the digital divide is to more openly provide technology within the education sector an example is the 2005 initiative to educate
children using online facilities etc within schools and colleges. This is one of many initiatives, the most effective initiative is to provide technology
in public places such as libraries and to have centers where people can learn ICT (2000). This is not just applied to the UK, this is a global initiative
and also developing countries can benefit from the centres. Funding has been given for disadvantaged communities so that there is more fairer spreas
of the benefits.
Over the last 3 years the digital divide has in my opinion been narrowing this is because more and more people in developing countries are being
provided with the access to computers and technology which without funding they would otherwise not have. More people in developing countries are
able to use a computer and this reduces the gap in the digital divide globally even though

The Divide Chapter Summaries
In Matt Taibbi's book The Divide, the criminal justice system is revealed to have become a form of social control over the poor. Taibbi refers to this
divide between rich and poor as "two systems in a vacuum," where there are two separate systems depending on whether you're rich or poor that
people seem to accept. When looking at both systems in comparison, however, the system makes no sense. An example Taibbi uses throughout his
book is the legal process of petty crimes, such as drug dealing or just sleeping on a park bench overnight, where, due to minimum sentencing laws,
people have had to serve a minimum 20–year prison sentences. These are people that are poor and desperate enough to sleep on a cold park bench, but

After recounting the crime he had done in the past out of boredom, a component of strain theory, King explains the reasoning for poor people acting out
and doing crime that keeps them in poverty, saying that, "Yes! Black subjects, stripped... degraded... deprived... demoralized... and psychotic–minded
must attempt to prove their worth and their manhood, even at the expense of others" (2009, pp. 52–53). What King means by this is that it's the
environment that makes one do what one does, and the people to blame are those in power that perpetuate such conditions. The poor are not, for
the most part, who they are just because they are 'lazy and stupid,' but more so because there is just nothing there for them. Believing in 'survival of
the fittest' when working at a desk job may make you feel good about yourself, but there are others who want a chance at the same opportunity as

The Global Divide Essay
What is globalization? It can be simply defined as worldwide integration and development, but if asked to be defined by the world's citizens it's simply
referred to as conflict. As you continue to read further, you will see how globalization and the north– south global divide play a key role in our nation's
economy. From the wars on European soil and increasing poverty in Africa, to the booming technological abilities in Japan, this one word will be an
understatement to all things to come. I'll explain how the global divide started and how globalization plays a key role in the world's own destructive

The Cold War was the cradle to two nations savagely competing with one another for hegemony over other countries and military preparedness. During
the years between the Renaissance and the industrial Revolution, the Americas, Africa and Asia were colonized by the Europeans. After freeing itself
from the British's grip, the pioneering spirit of its immigrants and immeasurable natural resources gave the U.S the democratic future it has today. By
the middle of the 20th century, United States had collaborated with the European industrialization and overtook the rest of the world. Independent
Latin American countries were plagued with internal conflicts and military dictatorships like Brazil, which isolated them from the rest of the world.

The Global North And Global South Essay
INTRODUCTION
Throughout history, it has been quiet apparent that world is segregated into two groups. One group being the one that controls the world assets and the
other group being one that is constantly under development. These two groups are: The Global North and the Global South. The separation between
the two lays in the different socio–economic and political standings of the nations within them. The Global North is composed of the primary,
developed leaders, such as the United States, Australia, and European Union. On the other side of the economic and political spectrum lies the Global
South, which is composed primarily of Third World nations. According to The Politics of Global Economic Relations and International Business, the
North has the political advantage globally. A majority of its members are leaders in the political realm, like leading many of the efforts of theUnited
Nations. The North controls four–fifths of the income earned anywhere in the world. 90% of the world's industries and manufacturing are owned and
located in the North. The North has led many efforts to close the development gap between the two sectors. Despite efforts, the South continues to
remain underdeveloped and many would suggest that it's the consequence of the Global North.
Within this paper, I'll be examining specifically the United States' relationship with Thailand with regards to preventing human trafficking. From a
consequentialist lens, it'll be determined whether or not the

Class Divide and Unequality in the United States
The US has always been recognized as the one place where there is no divide among people, hence from its founding days it had been based on the
fact of classless society of equals (Angus 55), where it focused on getting rid of such culture that was forced upon by the United Kingdom. A
famous sociologist by the name of Alexis Tocqueville, at that time described the US as the most democratic nation in the world. But that soon has
changed today in modern times, where there is a greater perceptible of classes in the country, only because of vast wealth accumulation by the
higher class or as you may rich class. Americans today have a huge disadvantage of opportunities in all fields such as politics, or health care,
justice security even in education and income. The way the class is structured in modern time US is the biggest cause of inequality today. This
inequality in US is not even acknowledged. When the thought of inequality is either trivialized or brushed as if it doesn't exist. Although we can
agree there are other economic social inequality among other nations as well, but they are within their own boundries; if we are to compare only
first world nations. Deaton Angus a professor at Princeton university stated "If the topic of class is introduced, it is always dismissed as far left
socialism, having no relvance to modern day US capitalism" (Angus 65.). Even though there is inequality in US, however it also represents equality as
well. Where hard work is rewarded with

Types Of Social Class And Class Divide
Social Class:
There are many types of social class and class divide that has been happening for many years and is still happening to this day. The class divide
include, the working class, the unemployed, the middle class and the upper class. Everyone's social class is totally different it all depends on their
wealth status and the jobs that the individuals have in the house hold and how much money that they are bringing in.
An example of this is: A professional worker, such as an MP who is called Alan Milburn said '' the poor , are more likely to get an illness or a serious

Which include, straight(heterosexual), gay , or lesbian etc. It is yet again against the law to discriminate someone because of who they are and for who
they want to be with as an individual. I feel , that people should take this seriously as the abuse or contact of discrimination against someone could go
further where someone may end up becoming ill that they have to go to hospital or in worse cases commit suicide or self–harm. Wherever and
individual is, where if it's a school, primary school, workplace or college they should report any account that has happened to them. In some cases, an
individual, can get a higher authority to step in and try and stop this by getting legal help.
Disabilities:
Quite a lot of people get discriminated because they are disabled and need the extra help and support to be able to get throughout day to day life. A
discriminatory act , was put in place in the year 1975 and the quality act was put in place in 2010. These were both put in place, to protect individuals
who have disabilities to be protected from people who are causing them upset.
Health Status:
The health status, is when everyone has the right to visits a health service for help and support no matter what their situation is. People, have the right
to go and seek medical attention If they really need it and the service will do all what they can to make sure the situation is stable and the needs of the
service user has been met. However, if the NHS for

The Global Divide Between the Rich and Poor
For the last five centuries, there has been a growing split throughout the world; this split has been between the "haves" and the "have–nots". These two
groups can be defined two ways. One, between the rich and poor in individual countries and two, between the rich and poor countries themselves. Both
definitions have seen increasing polarization over the last 500 years, but the definitive century was the last 100 years. The twentieth century held
wealth and fortune beyond the dreams of many, but desperation and famine for many others. Overall, the focus of this paper is the division of wealth

Countries sell off their capital, and let corporations become dominators, sometimes holding more control than the government itself. Governance does
not mean mere government. It means the framework of rules, institutions and established practices that set limits and give incentives for the behavior
of individuals, organizations and firms. The challenge is to find the rules and institutions for stronger governance –– local, national, regional and global
–– to preserve the advantages of global markets and competition, but also to provide enough space for human, community and environmental resources
to ensure that globalization works for people –– not just for profits. The United States has not exactly been a saint throughout these unfolding events,
but rather like a country building a colonial empire through economic integration and control. Rather than working to foster forums of other
like–minded nations, the United States has historically sought to undermine groups that it cannot or does not control. The United States exports more
arms than anyone else, and shrugs when violence erupts around the world. Globalization has given new characteristics to conflicts. Feeding these
conflicts is the global traffic in weapons, involving new actors and blurring political and business interests. But still we press on, making an effort to
level the playing field in the Americas –– but to help the

The Divide Documentary Analysis
Income Inequality is at an all–time high in the United States, and it has increased significantly since the 1970s, and now has reached levels not seen
since 1928 during the Great Depression. (Pew Research Center, 2017). Today the top 1 percent takes home more than 20% of all U.S income. The
outcomes of income inequality are worse in the unequal countries (Wilkinson and Pickett). The Divide documentary primary purpose is to show the
growing divide between the rich and the poor in the US and UK. The individuals being interviewed have one goal in common, they are all striving for
a better life for their families. The evoking emotions of the intense stories told by the interviewees and feeling empathy for the economic state display

was supposed to provide a better life for all but failed and today inequality is at its highest level since 1928. (Divide) You can see the growing divide

Differences that Divide Essay
Throughout most of human history, humans have had a tendency to judge people on the basis of clearly defined qualities, in an attempt to characterize
and classify society into more easily understood "black and white" groups. In Khaled Hosseini's The Kite Runner, the characters, representative of the
surrounding cultures portrayed, frequently participate in acts of inclusion and exclusion on the basis of ethnicity, religion, and lifestyle as a means of
dividing the population into clearly defined, mutually exclusive groups. This underlying expression of discrimination serves as a modern critical
analysis against society's prevalent tenets of inequality. The first form of discrimination, most significant to the character Hassan, is done on...show

By offering Hassan as a sacrifice, the author focuses on the fatal consequences of allowing societies of inclusion and exclusion to continue that will
impact even positive people who are without flaws. In this manner, the author addresses the injustices of ethnical discrimination, characterized
primarily by Assef and Hassan. As a further means of separating the population into distinct groups, religion acts as a divisionary force between
characters and cultures. There are two primary conflicting cultures represented in the novel that are the cause of religious differences: Sunnis versus
Shi'ites and secularism versus religious fundamentalism. Similar to the discrimination based on ethnicity, the conflict based on religion is primarily
exemplified through Assef and Hassan, who are Sunni and Shi'ite, respectively. As such, any justification for inclusion and exclusion of people not
based solely on ethnicity could just be rationalized through differences of religion. With this prevalent culture present, the importance is in the author's
depiction of the "bleak hypocrisies of the Taliban period––the disgusting cruelties performed in the name of righteousness" as stated by David Denby in
"Hard Life." Through the

Racial/Ethnic Divide
While the concept of a singular and limited British identity excludes various racial/ethnic, class, and gendered groups, this essay will focus on the
racial/ethnic divide, which began the political discourse that led to Margaret Thatcher's "new racism" in the 1980's (Goldberg 1714). The
Conservative party's "essentialist" view of the British identity, looks back towards the age of Empire and concentrates on the importance of the
peoples shared history and virtues (Marwick 28). Their party platform in 1945 emphasized this, claiming a history of British greatness that, for
generations, has resided "in the character, the ability, and the independence of our people" ("Mr. Churchill's Declaration"). However in forming an
identity so strongly connected...show more content...
In order to protect their nation from the supposed threat of Immigrants, a need arose to define and classify the British cultural identity as rooted in the
history of the nation. With the loss of the British Empire throughout the century, in aligning a British identity to the age of Empire reveals nostalgia for
pure, British identity untainted by foreign influences. With an influx of diverse cultures, came "a racism typified by notions of a common culture and
ethnic difference" (Gillborn 347). As emphasized by sociologist Robert Miles, "the political discourse employed by the British government since
1945 has been overtly and covertly racist", however rather than the overt "reference to the inherent biological inferiority" of certain racial and ethnic
groups to exclude them from national belonging, the concept of a national identity based on a shared culture is used as a covert tool of exclusion
(Miles 36–37). Moving away from the scientific racism of the 19th century, cultural racism in the 60's and beyond makes way for Conservatives "new
racism" based on fear of Immigrants (Gillborn

A Class DIvided Essay
A CLASS DIVIDED
Thirty years ago Jane Elliott taught the third grade in the white, Christian community of Riceville, Iowa. The day Martin Luther King Jr. was killed she
planned an exercise that wouldn't just show her students what racism is – rather, it would give them first–hand experience of what it felt like to be
oppressed for something out of their control.
Elliott divided her class by the color of their eyes, marked them with armbands and proceeded to treat one group as if superior in capabilities to the
other. The superior students performed better than they ever had before, while the inferior students' performance dropped. The next day, the third
graders traded ranks and their performance reversed in accordance to their...show more content...

their performance in everyday activities. Elliott has gone on to do the exercise with numerous adults and almost without exception the participants'
abilities, such as reading and writing, are grossly affected.
Jane Elliott's approach is especially relevant today. It demonstrates that even without juridical discrimination; hate speech, lowered expectations, and
dismissive behavior can have devastating effects on achievement. Black members of the blue–eyed group forcefully remind whites that they undergo
similar stresses, not just for a few hours in a controlled experiment, but every day of their lives. Although these concepts are food for thought... they are
merely preludes to the main course. The most important lesson to be learned here is that just one person can make a difference.
Next we join a group of 40 teachers, police, school administrators and social workers in Kansas City – blacks, Hispanics, whites, women and men. The
blue–eyed members are subjected to pseudo–scientific explanations of their inferiority, culturally biased IQ tests and blatant discrimination. When the
inevitable resistance by a blue–eyes surfaces, Elliot cites the outburst as an example of

A Class Divided: Useful for Cultural Competence Jane Elliott witnessed third grade students who once loved and cared for each other change within a

relationships between students and teachers, families and school districts, and lastly the overall cultural understanding of the effects of discrimination.

Social Class And Its Impact On Society Essay
Social class has been always been in our society since its establishment. Back then, white, landowning men had the highest status amongst society
with women and other races being lower in the societal ladder Times have changed since then, but social class is still a major factor to people's
success. Social class is defined as a label that categorizes individuals based on their economic status, wealth, and power. Social class does not
matter, but should not be ignored It's prominent in our society so I think as young adults we need to be aware of it. If we "teach them how to deal
with it in a positive manner and how to prevent it, then little by little we can see less of the discrimination. Our differences shouldn't create conflict
between people and cause problems". Our differences should come together and be celebrated. It should be brought to our attention that they may be
more disadvantaged than other people and that all their home lives are unique and different from each other. While keeping this concept in mind,
teachers and faculty members should not let social class control their action towards the students and be prejudiced. Teachers should not see social
class as a problem or an excuse as to why the student is not learning. Individuals want to learn and can learn; social class should not be the explanation
as to why the teacher will not help the student reach their goals. When students grow intellectually and become educated, they will acquire more
opportunities to

Ideological Division Essay
Ideology is the belief of people's ideas. Everyone has different opinions about ideas and it can often lead up to problems, debates, and etc. There is
nothing wrong with ideology because it is the opinion of one and there is no right and wrong in opinions. However, I do believe that it can cause
issues with the actions of others. In my opinion, ideological division is a problem and in a way it is to a major extent.
Since ideological division does exist in the United States, we live in environments that separates us from others with different beliefs. As stated in
document one, "We've built a country where we can all choose the neighborhood and church and news show– most compatible with our lifestyle and
beliefs." This proves that most of the...show more content...

when it was switched and the other option now "belonged" to the democratic party, democrats ended up choosing the new option only because it was
under the party they wanted to go for. The same goes for the republican party. This document represents that citizens are not choosing based on the
individual ideas, but they are choosing by what belongs to their preferred party.
In conclusion, ideological division is a problem in the United States. Everyone has their own opinions and that is to be accepted, but people have
trouble accepting others opinions and their way of thinking. Therefore, most citizens of the United States live with others with the same belief. They
segregate themselves from others and do things based on what their party believes in. They will mainly agree with whatever idea their party has in

Socialization is the lifelong process of learning rules for adapting to social and cultural normality. Learning to follow societal rules is what allows
people to survive, thrive and integrate into groups and communities within society. Through the observation of others, people begin to develop core
values, beliefs and morals. This builds bonds and develops a sense of belonging within a given group. In the documentary, A Class Divided, the power
of socialization is demonstrated as a third–grade teacher gives her class a hands–on lesson in discrimination and bias by separating her class in to

they were the superior group (1985). The results of this experiment proved interesting as it revealed how quick and easily groups can be discriminated
against based on differences alone. Not only did the in–groups and the out–groups start treating each other terribly, but the kids who were in the
out–group developed low self–esteem which caused them to do worse on their class assignments, get temperamental, defensive and fought with the

Julius Caesar Divide And Conquer Essay
The Roman proverb "Divide and conquer" by Julius Caesar means If your opponents are too strong, work at breaking down their coalition and you
can win. As an example, the divide and conquer strategy was used by overseas nations in Africa during the colonial and post–colonial period: Germany
and Belgium reigned Rwanda and Burundi in a colonial faculty. Germany used the approach of divide and conquers by hiring associates of the
already governing Tutsi minority in positions of power. When Belgium took over colonial rule in 1916, the Tutsi and Hutu groups were reorganized
according to race instead of employment. Belgium demarcated "Tutsi" as somebody with further than ten cows or a extended nose, while "Hutu"
meant somebody with fewer than ten cows and a wide–ranging nose. The socioeconomic break between Tutsis and Hutus nonstop after independence
and were a key factor in the Rwandan Massacre.

Cultural Identity Divide

  • 1. Cultural Identity Divide Culture can be defined as a belief that allows you to identify who you are. Thus, through cultre there is self – discovery and belonging in a group of persons who share the same belief system; who have found themselves and are now seeking to digest more about one another through eachother's' unearthing of one's self. Culture assists you not only in identifying who you are, but the sort of people you can surround yourself with due to common interests. In this society; I have witnessed cultural unity, cultural identity crisis' and moreover a cultural divide and surprisingly all of those fold under the same umbrella in reagrds to knowing where you stand and those you choose to stand with. Currently, society is a huge caste system of choices to be made, opinions to be had and decision making. Often, many are questioned of whose side they are on awhile many don't have the opportunity to make that decision for they are often placed in a caste based off of appearances. This generation of millenials confuses the caste system with electronics being in the forefront of their upbringing; self– discovery is no longer going to a park and playing with kids of similar interests on the playground; but now finding yourself is depicted by the amount of followers, likes and/ or views you possess. Moreover, society now can also be defined by who you follow, who...show more content... The notion of picking a platform to represent your values and integrity and being a solo representation of those values and beliefs encourages one to battle to get the Presidential candidate closer to victory. With this subcultured unity displays a clear divide; with many seeing the election in black and white, conservative or liberal, and for many rich or poor. The unfortunate truth with culture in society today can be defined by color, creed or social and economic Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 2. The Digital Divide Essay Digital divide: This is the gap between those who have computer and internet access and those who do not. This is also whether people are computer and technology literate or not and whether they have these facilities available to them. Digital inclusion: This describes efforts made to help ensure everyone is able to understand and enjoy the use of computers and the internet and the attempts made to reduce the digital divide. Digital inclusion involves citizens being able to use online facilities and know how to use them etc The digital divide is caused by many things. A main cause of the digital divide is income level and cost meaning that people with a lower income are disadvantaged in that they may not be able to afford a...show more content... Democracy is also a factor effected by the digital divide since it may be easier for those with the benefit of technology to take part in elections and making decisions than those without. Economic growth is effected by the digital divide because productivity improvements tend to be associated with the use of Information technologies and companies with these technologies may have advantage and can compete better. One initiative to close the digital divide is to more openly provide technology within the education sector an example is the 2005 initiative to educate children using online facilities etc within schools and colleges. This is one of many initiatives, the most effective initiative is to provide technology in public places such as libraries and to have centers where people can learn ICT (2000). This is not just applied to the UK, this is a global initiative and also developing countries can benefit from the centres. Funding has been given for disadvantaged communities so that there is more fairer spreas of the benefits. Over the last 3 years the digital divide has in my opinion been narrowing this is because more and more people in developing countries are being provided with the access to computers and technology which without funding they would otherwise not have. More people in developing countries are able to use a computer and this reduces the gap in the digital divide globally even though

  • 4. The Divide Chapter Summaries In Matt Taibbi's book The Divide, the criminal justice system is revealed to have become a form of social control over the poor. Taibbi refers to this divide between rich and poor as "two systems in a vacuum," where there are two separate systems depending on whether you're rich or poor that people seem to accept. When looking at both systems in comparison, however, the system makes no sense. An example Taibbi uses throughout his book is the legal process of petty crimes, such as drug dealing or just sleeping on a park bench overnight, where, due to minimum sentencing laws, people have had to serve a minimum 20–year prison sentences. These are people that are poor and desperate enough to sleep on a cold park bench, but instead of giving them...show more content... After recounting the crime he had done in the past out of boredom, a component of strain theory, King explains the reasoning for poor people acting out and doing crime that keeps them in poverty, saying that, "Yes! Black subjects, stripped... degraded... deprived... demoralized... and psychotic–minded must attempt to prove their worth and their manhood, even at the expense of others" (2009, pp. 52–53). What King means by this is that it's the environment that makes one do what one does, and the people to blame are those in power that perpetuate such conditions. The poor are not, for the most part, who they are just because they are 'lazy and stupid,' but more so because there is just nothing there for them. Believing in 'survival of the fittest' when working at a desk job may make you feel good about yourself, but there are others who want a chance at the same opportunity as you have had. These people are just like anyone else we know. There hard workers and want to provide for their families, but are held back by the society they live in to further progress, which is ironic in the face of the American Get more content on HelpWriting.net

  • 7. The Global Divide Essay What is globalization? It can be simply defined as worldwide integration and development, but if asked to be defined by the world's citizens it's simply referred to as conflict. As you continue to read further, you will see how globalization and the north– south global divide play a key role in our nation's economy. From the wars on European soil and increasing poverty in Africa, to the booming technological abilities in Japan, this one word will be an understatement to all things to come. I'll explain how the global divide started and how globalization plays a key role in the world's own destructive nature. As the gap between the two divides grows further and further apart, the one question still remains; could this gap ever be closed?...show more content... These allies who fought with one another became sworn enemies for world supremacy based on their political ideologies and intense urge for national interest and global power. The Cold War was the cradle to two nations savagely competing with one another for hegemony over other countries and military preparedness. During the years between the Renaissance and the industrial Revolution, the Americas, Africa and Asia were colonized by the Europeans. After freeing itself from the British's grip, the pioneering spirit of its immigrants and immeasurable natural resources gave the U.S the democratic future it has today. By the middle of the 20th century, United States had collaborated with the European industrialization and overtook the rest of the world. Independent Latin American countries were plagued with internal conflicts and military dictatorships like Brazil, which isolated them from the rest of the world. The "north" divide didn't stop with just the exception of the United States economic growth, but with the remaining countries of the northern hemisphere also including Australia and New Zealand. The countries showed the world that they could grow in population, wealth, and GNI. The "south" on the other hand, comprised of weaker countries whose claims to development lingered in comparison. The world's geography doesn't entirely determine the statute of whether a country is labelled the North or the South. Comprising of Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 8. The Global North And Global South Essay INTRODUCTION Throughout history, it has been quiet apparent that world is segregated into two groups. One group being the one that controls the world assets and the other group being one that is constantly under development. These two groups are: The Global North and the Global South. The separation between the two lays in the different socio–economic and political standings of the nations within them. The Global North is composed of the primary, developed leaders, such as the United States, Australia, and European Union. On the other side of the economic and political spectrum lies the Global South, which is composed primarily of Third World nations. According to The Politics of Global Economic Relations and International Business, the North has the political advantage globally. A majority of its members are leaders in the political realm, like leading many of the efforts of theUnited Nations. The North controls four–fifths of the income earned anywhere in the world. 90% of the world's industries and manufacturing are owned and located in the North. The North has led many efforts to close the development gap between the two sectors. Despite efforts, the South continues to remain underdeveloped and many would suggest that it's the consequence of the Global North. Within this paper, I'll be examining specifically the United States' relationship with Thailand with regards to preventing human trafficking. From a consequentialist lens, it'll be determined whether or not the Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 9. Class Divide and Unequality in the United States The US has always been recognized as the one place where there is no divide among people, hence from its founding days it had been based on the fact of classless society of equals (Angus 55), where it focused on getting rid of such culture that was forced upon by the United Kingdom. A famous sociologist by the name of Alexis Tocqueville, at that time described the US as the most democratic nation in the world. But that soon has changed today in modern times, where there is a greater perceptible of classes in the country, only because of vast wealth accumulation by the higher class or as you may rich class. Americans today have a huge disadvantage of opportunities in all fields such as politics, or health care, justice security even in education and income. The way the class is structured in modern time US is the biggest cause of inequality today. This inequality in US is not even acknowledged. When the thought of inequality is either trivialized or brushed as if it doesn't exist. Although we can agree there are other economic social inequality among other nations as well, but they are within their own boundries; if we are to compare only first world nations. Deaton Angus a professor at Princeton university stated "If the topic of class is introduced, it is always dismissed as far left socialism, having no relvance to modern day US capitalism" (Angus 65.). Even though there is inequality in US, however it also represents equality as well. Where hard work is rewarded with Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 10. Types Of Social Class And Class Divide Social Class: There are many types of social class and class divide that has been happening for many years and is still happening to this day. The class divide include, the working class, the unemployed, the middle class and the upper class. Everyone's social class is totally different it all depends on their wealth status and the jobs that the individuals have in the house hold and how much money that they are bringing in. An example of this is: A professional worker, such as an MP who is called Alan Milburn said '' the poor , are more likely to get an illness or a serious illness because of them being poor and not being able to access the right medical treatment they need or they can't afford or get to the service to ask and get help...show more content... Which include, straight(heterosexual), gay , or lesbian etc. It is yet again against the law to discriminate someone because of who they are and for who they want to be with as an individual. I feel , that people should take this seriously as the abuse or contact of discrimination against someone could go further where someone may end up becoming ill that they have to go to hospital or in worse cases commit suicide or self–harm. Wherever and individual is, where if it's a school, primary school, workplace or college they should report any account that has happened to them. In some cases, an individual, can get a higher authority to step in and try and stop this by getting legal help. Disabilities: Quite a lot of people get discriminated because they are disabled and need the extra help and support to be able to get throughout day to day life. A discriminatory act , was put in place in the year 1975 and the quality act was put in place in 2010. These were both put in place, to protect individuals who have disabilities to be protected from people who are causing them upset. Health Status: The health status, is when everyone has the right to visits a health service for help and support no matter what their situation is. People, have the right to go and seek medical attention If they really need it and the service will do all what they can to make sure the situation is stable and the needs of the service user has been met. • 11. The Global Divide Between the Rich and Poor For the last five centuries, there has been a growing split throughout the world; this split has been between the "haves" and the "have–nots". These two groups can be defined two ways. One, between the rich and poor in individual countries and two, between the rich and poor countries themselves. Both definitions have seen increasing polarization over the last 500 years, but the definitive century was the last 100 years. The twentieth century held wealth and fortune beyond the dreams of many, but desperation and famine for many others. Overall, the focus of this paper is the division of wealth by country –– most often referenced by the relations between north and south. What we find is a...show more content... Countries sell off their capital, and let corporations become dominators, sometimes holding more control than the government itself. Governance does not mean mere government. It means the framework of rules, institutions and established practices that set limits and give incentives for the behavior of individuals, organizations and firms. The challenge is to find the rules and institutions for stronger governance –– local, national, regional and global –– to preserve the advantages of global markets and competition, but also to provide enough space for human, community and environmental resources to ensure that globalization works for people –– not just for profits. The United States has not exactly been a saint throughout these unfolding events, but rather like a country building a colonial empire through economic integration and control. Rather than working to foster forums of other like–minded nations, the United States has historically sought to undermine groups that it cannot or does not control. The United States exports more arms than anyone else, and shrugs when violence erupts around the world. Globalization has given new characteristics to conflicts. Feeding these conflicts is the global traffic in weapons, involving new actors and blurring political and business interests. But still we press on, making an effort to level the playing field in the Americas –– but to help the Get more content on HelpWriting.net

(Pew Research Center, 2017). Today the top 1 percent takes home more than 20% of all U.S income. The outcomes of income inequality are worse in the unequal countries (Wilkinson and Pickett). The Divide documentary primary purpose is to show the growing divide between the rich and the poor in the US and UK. The stories of the interviewers provided real life, emotional events that were presented in the pathos appeal. The economic experiment that was supposed to provide a better life for all but failed and today inequality is at its highest level since 1928. • 13. Differences that Divide Essay Throughout most of human history, humans have had a tendency to judge people on the basis of clearly defined qualities, in an attempt to characterize and classify society into more easily understood "black and white" groups. In Khaled Hosseini's The Kite Runner, the characters, representative of the surrounding cultures portrayed, frequently participate in acts of inclusion and exclusion on the basis of ethnicity, religion, and lifestyle as a means of dividing the population into clearly defined, mutually exclusive groups. This underlying expression of discrimination serves as a modern critical analysis against society's prevalent tenets of inequality. The first form of discrimination, most significant to the character Hassan, is done on...show more content... By offering Hassan as a sacrifice, the author focuses on the fatal consequences of allowing societies of inclusion and exclusion to continue that will impact even positive people who are without flaws. In this manner, the author addresses the injustices of ethnical discrimination, characterized primarily by Assef and Hassan. As a further means of separating the population into distinct groups, religion acts as a divisionary force between characters and cultures. There are two primary conflicting cultures represented in the novel that are the cause of religious differences: Sunnis versus Shi'ites and secularism versus religious fundamentalism. Similar to the discrimination based on ethnicity, the conflict based on religion is primarily exemplified through Assef and Hassan, who are Sunni and Shi'ite, respectively. As such, any justification for inclusion and exclusion of people not based solely on ethnicity could just be rationalized through differences of religion. With this prevalent culture present, the importance is in the author's depiction of the "bleak hypocrisies of the Taliban period––the disgusting cruelties performed in the name of righteousness" as stated by David Denby in "Hard Life." • 14. Racial/Ethnic Divide While the concept of a singular and limited British identity excludes various racial/ethnic, class, and gendered groups, this essay will focus on the racial/ethnic divide, which began the political discourse that led to Margaret Thatcher's "new racism" in the 1980's (Goldberg 1714). The Conservative party's "essentialist" view of the British identity, looks back towards the age of Empire and concentrates on the importance of the peoples shared history and virtues (Marwick 28). Their party platform in 1945 emphasized this, claiming a history of British greatness that, for generations, has resided "in the character, the ability, and the independence of our people" ("Mr. Churchill's Declaration"). However in forming an identity so strongly connected...show more content... In order to protect their nation from the supposed threat of Immigrants, a need arose to define and classify the British cultural identity as rooted in the history of the nation. With the loss of the British Empire throughout the century, in aligning a British identity to the age of Empire reveals nostalgia for pure, British identity untainted by foreign influences. With an influx of diverse cultures, came "a racism typified by notions of a common culture and ethnic difference" (Gillborn 347). As emphasized by sociologist Robert Miles, "the political discourse employed by the British government since 1945 has been overtly and covertly racist", however rather than the overt "reference to the inherent biological inferiority" of certain racial and ethnic groups to exclude them from national belonging, the concept of a national identity based on a shared culture is used as a covert tool of exclusion (Miles 36–37). Moving away from the scientific racism of the 19th century, cultural racism in the 60's and beyond makes way for Conservatives "new racism" based on fear of Immigrants (Gillborn Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 15. A Class DIvided Essay A CLASS DIVIDED Thirty years ago Jane Elliott taught the third grade in the white, Christian community of Riceville, Iowa. The day Martin Luther King Jr. was killed she planned an exercise that wouldn't just show her students what racism is – rather, it would give them first–hand experience of what it felt like to be oppressed for something out of their control. Elliott divided her class by the color of their eyes, marked them with armbands and proceeded to treat one group as if superior in capabilities to the other. The superior students performed better than they ever had before, while the inferior students' performance dropped. The next day, the third graders traded ranks and their performance reversed in accordance to their...show more content... Elliott has gone on to do the exercise with numerous adults and almost without exception the participants' abilities, such as reading and writing, are grossly affected. Jane Elliott's approach is especially relevant today. It demonstrates that even without juridical discrimination; hate speech, lowered expectations, and dismissive behavior can have devastating effects on achievement. Black members of the blue–eyed group forcefully remind whites that they undergo similar stresses, not just for a few hours in a controlled experiment, but every day of their lives. Although these concepts are food for thought... they are merely preludes to the main course. The most important lesson to be learned here is that just one person can make a difference. Next we join a group of 40 teachers, police, school administrators and social workers in Kansas City – blacks, Hispanics, whites, women and men. The blue–eyed members are subjected to pseudo–scientific explanations of their inferiority, culturally biased IQ tests and blatant discrimination. When the inevitable resistance by a blue–eyes surfaces, Elliot cites the outburst as an example of Get more content on HelpWriting.net

They provide entertainment to all ages, genders, nationalities, and ethnicities. Contrary to the opinions of the industries opponents, video games are not destroying our youth, they challenge, educate, and provide an escape from an oppressive world. Rome: Total War has two different screens that a player must learn to master, the campaign map, where armies, navies, and diplomats are moved, and where cities are managed. Then there is the battle screen which changes every time a player attacks or defends a different location. It is on this screen that the game is truly won or lost. Gamers must fully understand the strengths and weaknesses of not only their units, but the units of their enemy. This is but one challenge for gamers, they must also learn how to confront elephants, chariots, siege weapons, and the naked fanatics of the Gauls. The next type of game is sports titles, which are probably the most popular for a group of people, rather than the individual gamer. Sports titles cover everything from football and baseball to golf and auto racing. These games are equally enjoyed by both players who are or were jocks, and for those who wish they were. A person learns the mechanics and intricacies, giving them a greater appreciation for the game overall. Sometimes the video game can create a fan of a sport where none existed before. It is obvious that video games are not all about sex, drugs and violence. While there are certain titles that are questionable, but most games are quite harmless. • 17. Summary: A Class Divide A Class Divided: Useful for Cultural Competence Jane Elliott witnessed third grade students who once loved and cared for each other change within a twenty–four–hour period (1985). The exercise A Class Divided is a great tool that teachers could use to become better equipped in the cultural aspect of education. This exercise would be best to apply with educators and the administrators of the district. A Class Divided would greatly improve the relationships between students and teachers, families and school districts, and lastly the overall cultural understanding of the effects of discrimination. While this training has been used in a third–grade classroom, it would be better suited for teachers. Educators of all grades could take a step back and truly understand how those that appear different feel at times in life. Students are...show more content... A Class Divided would allow the educators of any district understand the feeling of discrimination and how to avoid this harsh thing within the classroom and in the overall work place. Overall, A Class Divided would be a great addition to the continuing of education for all teachers, support staff, and administration. The training has provided great insight for many different types of corporation including that of a prison in New York (1985). • 18. Social Class And Its Impact On Society Essay Social class has been always been in our society since its establishment. Back then, white, landowning men had the highest status amongst society with women and other races being lower in the societal ladder Times have changed since then, but social class is still a major factor to people's success. Social class is defined as a label that categorizes individuals based on their economic status, wealth, and power. Social class does not matter, but should not be ignored It's prominent in our society so I think as young adults we need to be aware of it. If we "teach them how to deal with it in a positive manner and how to prevent it, then little by little we can see less of the discrimination. Our differences shouldn't create conflict between people and cause problems". Our differences should come together and be celebrated. It should be brought to our attention that they may be more disadvantaged than other people and that all their home lives are unique and different from each other. While keeping this concept in mind, teachers and faculty members should not let social class control their action towards the students and be prejudiced. Teachers should not see social class as a problem or an excuse as to why the student is not learning. Individuals want to learn and can learn; social class should not be the explanation as to why the teacher will not help the student reach their goals. When students grow intellectually and become educated, they will acquire more opportunities to Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 19. Ideological Division Essay Ideology is the belief of people's ideas. Everyone has different opinions about ideas and it can often lead up to problems, debates, and etc. There is nothing wrong with ideology because it is the opinion of one and there is no right and wrong in opinions. However, I do believe that it can cause issues with the actions of others. In my opinion, ideological division is a problem and in a way it is to a major extent. Since ideological division does exist in the United States, we live in environments that separates us from others with different beliefs. As stated in document one, "We've built a country where we can all choose the neighborhood and church and news show– most compatible with our lifestyle and beliefs." This proves that most of the...show more content... In document seven, it explained how citizens were given two options, these two ideas belonged to either a democratic plan or a republican plan. The people who voted for the ideas were told which ideas belonged to each party. Democrats voted for the idea that was under the democratic party. Even when it was switched and the other option now "belonged" to the democratic party, democrats ended up choosing the new option only because it was under the party they wanted to go for. The same goes for the republican party. This document represents that citizens are not choosing based on the individual ideas, but they are choosing by what belongs to their preferred party. In conclusion, ideological division is a problem in the United States. Everyone has their own opinions and that is to be accepted, but people have trouble accepting others opinions and their way of thinking. Therefore, most citizens of the United States live with others with the same belief. They segregate themselves from others and do things based on what their party believes in. They will mainly agree with whatever idea their party has in mind and it is likely that they are not going to change their Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 20. A Class Divided Essay Socialization is the lifelong process of learning rules for adapting to social and cultural normality. Learning to follow societal rules is what allows people to survive, thrive and integrate into groups and communities within society. Through the observation of others, people begin to develop core values, beliefs and morals. This builds bonds and develops a sense of belonging within a given group. In the documentary, A Class Divided, the power of socialization is demonstrated as a third–grade teacher gives her class a hands–on lesson in discrimination and bias by separating her class in to in–groups and out–groups. This lesson not only gives a glimpse into the power of socialization showing how biases can be created, but it also helps ...show more content... On the first day of the experiment, the blue–eyed children, or the in–group, were told they were superior to the brown eyed children, the out–group. On top of being told they were better and smarter than the brown–eyed children, the out–group was not allowed to drink from the same fountain, play together at recess, or go back for seconds at lunch–time. The brown eyed children received less recess time, had to wait to go to lunch, and wore collars for easy recognition. During the second day of the experiment, the roles were reversed. The brown–eyed children being told and treated like they were the superior group (1985). The results of this experiment proved interesting as it revealed how quick and easily groups can be discriminated against based on differences alone. Not only did the in–groups and the out–groups start treating each other terribly, but the kids who were in the out–group developed low self–esteem which caused them to do worse on their class assignments, get temperamental, defensive and fought with the other group. The results during role reversal were the same. Jane Elliot later commented during the experiment she "... watched what had been marvelous, cooperative, wonderful, thoughtful children turn into nasty, vicious, discriminating, little third–graders in a space of fifteen minutes" (1985). As an example, the divide and conquer strategy was used by overseas nations in Africa during the colonial and post–colonial period: Germany and Belgium reigned Rwanda and Burundi in a colonial faculty. Germany used the approach of divide and conquers by hiring associates of the already governing Tutsi minority in positions of power. When Belgium took over colonial rule in 1916, the Tutsi and Hutu groups were reorganized according to race instead of employment. Belgium demarcated "Tutsi" as somebody with further than ten cows or a extended nose, while "Hutu" meant somebody with fewer than ten cows and a wide–ranging nose. The socioeconomic break between Tutsis and Hutus nonstop after independence and were a key factor in the Rwandan Massacre.
