AMCARE
A
MCARE was established
in 2001 by the Alberton
Methodist Church as a
community outreach programme.
It was decided to provide a Victim
Empowerment Programme,
comprehensive HIV and Aids
services and Skills Development
Services. Today, operating
independently but in association
with the Methodist Church of
Southern Africa, AMCARE achieves
the seemingly impossible, with
activities extending from Alberton to
Thokoza, Eden Park, Phola Park and
the Squatter Camps of Greenfields
and Thinazonke.
AMCARE is a multi-purpose health
and social development organization
servicing poor and vulnerable
persons in the Greater Alberton area
of Ekurhuleni. We are a registered
NPO with the Department of Social
Development. We render a variety
of services to poor and vulnerable
people ranging from sheltering
victims of domestic abuse, to
caring and support of Orphaned
and Vulnerable children to rendering
psycho social support to Elderly
residents. Supplementing these
services we also offer training and
skills development to empower the
people we serve.
FOOD PARCEL PROGRAMME
Supplying approximately 1500 meals on a monthly basis. This does not include the daily walk-ins from the
street. Amcare has to purchase items for the food parcels if donations do not come in. Typically a basic food
parcel consists of: Salt; mealie meel; Baked Beans; rice; soup; sugar; mixed veggies, Pilchards; Spaghetti
in Tomato Sauce; tea.
Always in need are items such as oil, Marmite; porridge; fruits; corned beef; peanut butter and toiletries.
SOCIAL WORK SERVICES
- Assisting and supporting victims of domestic violence through all the different processes to protect
themselves and their children;
- Assisting elderly clients and their families with placements at old age homes as well as emotional support;
- Community based care is provided to approximately 400 clients with HIV/AIDS. This is administered by a
team of 32 caregivers and three social work staff members.
SKILLS DEVELOPMENT
A 4-week training programme in either catering or sewing at a minimal cost of R20 registration fee.
In addition we train unskilled persons in Perma-culture Gardening and Woodcraft.

AMCARE is a registered NPO (NPO
016-772). We are also registered as a
Public Benefit Organization with SARS
and can issue section 18 certificates
which qualifies you for tax relief.
The profile of our beneficiary
community is 95% African, 4%
coloured and 1% white, which can
benefit your companies BBBEE
scorecard by 25 weighting points.
We will provide you with an affidavit
certifying the beneficiary community.
Proof of receipt of the payments will
also be provided. (The Section 18 Tax
certificate is normally accepted.)
INJABULO CLINIC – HCT & CIRCUMCISION FACILITY
Comprehensive HIV services to patients, which includes HIV andTB testing and pre- and post-test counselling
to about 600 patients a month and providing ARV’s in conjunction with Germiston Hospital.The main focus of
the Injabulo Clinic is however the Medical Male Circumcision performed by the more than 20 staff members
of the clinic on a daily basis. Medical male circumcision is done at no cost to patients and is performed by a
qualified doctor under strict hygienic conditions. All male children over the age of 12 are possible candidates
for this procedure. The Clinic also offers occupational health medical examinations at a cost to employers.
GARDENING PROJECTS IN PHOLA PARK, EDEN PARK, GREENFIELDS & THOKOZA
AMCARE in partnership with Joy Mining have been managing five big vegetable gardens located in Thokoza
(2) and Phola Park (3), as well as about 65 smaller, individual gardens in Thokoza, Phola Park, Eden Park and
Greenfields.
In addition, a new project is taking shape - a food gardening project for Orphaned Vulnerable Children. We are
targeting 30 Orphaned and vulnerable children (OVC), between the ages of 12-18 year who are attending the
Peer Educational Groups that AMCARE renders on weekly basis in the communities.
Each child has his/her own vegetable garden to plant, these gardens are at homes of the children and
AMCARE monitors and assists the children with the gardens.
AMCARE ACADEMY
An accredited learnership programme in Community Health to 60 students from community based
organisations Modules of the Ancillary Health Care qualification of the HWSETA aimed at Caregivers for
Home-based HIV & AIDS care is also provided. This academy, situated in New Market Park in Alberton, is
an accredited HWSETA services provider - reference No HW592A1000482 - for the following Learning
Programme: National Certificate in Community Health Work NQF Level 4, SAQA qualification ID No 64697.
The course was designed to upgrade the qualification of those people who provide services in the form of
Home Based Care, HIV Counselling and Testing, Health promotion and education in local clinics as well as
care for persons with intellectual and physical disabilities, ARV, PMCT, and PEP.
The course content is divided in three categories: Communication first and second language, Numeracy and
Primary Health Care.

These gardens provide patients with fresh vegetables with food parcels.
