To Whom It May Concern:
Reference for Wanling Liu
Wanling Liu was engaged by the University of Adelaide as a volunteer to assist with a high-level
delegation from Chinese universities in November 2014. We required a highly competent and
adaptable individual who could undertake a number of tasks to support the delegation from
interpreting, translating, escorting and general assistance. The group she assisted was our most
prestigious Chinese delegation and included Council Chairs, Presidents and Vice-Presidents.
I found Wanling to be exceptional in this role. As a native mandarin speaker, she was able to easily
converse with our delegation in a professional, polite and confident manner. However, she also
spoke excellent conversational English, which made it very easy to communicate my expectations.
Wanling exceeded my expectations on many levels. She prepared prior to the delegation’s arrival,
reviewing and memorising key information, and requesting further information where it may have
been lacking. She consistently arrived in a timely fashion and was well prepared for the activities
scheduled. In addition to the times requested of her, Wanling also provided additional assistance to
the group, responding thoughtfully to the needs of the members (e.g. assisting with the provision of
food to a sick member of the delegation, assisting with shopping etc.). At all times Wanling
communicated the needs of the group to me, and used her initiative to solve problems or provide a
higher level of service.
I would highly recommend Wanling in a role that utilises her exceptional language skills and
interpersonal skills. I found her to be professional, organised, courteous, confident and highly
competent. She was self-initiated and adaptable, and willing to do all that was required to achieve a
good outcome. Not only did she gain my respect, but also the respect of the delegation.
Feel free to contact me if you wish to discuss this further.
Kind regards,
