Letter of Recommendation for Jason DuPont
1. 06 April 2015
To whom it may concern,
It is my great privilege to recommend Mr. Jason DuPont and comment on his exceptional sense of
professionalism and work ethic. Mr. DuPont and I worked together at USAID in Afghanistan. He
stood out to me as an immensely talented, kind, and hard-working colleague. Mr. DuPont is someone
you just want on your team.
I first met Mr. DuPont in 2011 while we were both in USAID’s Development Officer training.
Impressively, Mr. DuPont spoke a handful of languages, and he had previously lived in Afghanistan.
Several of us were going to Afghanistan and/or an active war zone for the first time; Mr. DuPont was
a wonderful resource for us and patiently and happily answered our myriad questions. Because of Mr.
DuPont’s support, I felt more prepared for and less anxious over my upcoming tour.
Mr. DuPont experienced and overcame a great number of challenges that were beyond his control,
due to the kinetic nature of his first duty station in eastern Afghanistan. While in Kapisa region, an
area known for intense fighting and casualties, Mr. DuPont established himself as a team player, and
he nurtured a strong rapport with military colleagues, USAID’s implementing partners, field officers,
and local staff. To combat movement constraints, Mr. DuPont creatively sought out ways to monitor
and evaluate USAID programs. He also communicated program/project findings as well as important
strategic military communications up and down the chain of command in an efficient, sensitive, and
professional manner.
Mr. DuPont’s first base was closed partway through his tour, sooner than expected due to an incident
of violence within his base. While many people would struggle with the challenge of losing their
assigned base in a rather tragic way, Mr. DuPont remained undeterred and resilient. His previous
experience with database management, organizational skills, and strong communication skills resulted
in his transfer to a position within the U.S. Embassy in Kabul.
In Mr. DuPont’s new role as Database Administrator, he had the unenviable task of managing the
country-wide data collection and storage of USAID’s largest development portfolio in the world
(roughly 4 billion dollars in 2011 alone). Mr. DuPont successfully revitalized a defunct monitoring
and evaluation structure, and he transformed it into something useful and timesaving for everyone
from field officers in remote military bases to D.C. bureaucrats. He connected regions and projects
within Afghanistan, so that we could all make more informed decisions, identify service gaps, and
better evaluate the overall program impact.
Again, it is my honor to fully and without reservation recommend Mr. DuPont based on his previous
work in Afghanistan. His intelligence, tenacity, teamwork, and professionalism are an absolute asset
in any setting, but particularly in relation to future positions in international aid, development, and
humanitarian assistance. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions.
