The MARS launch pad rebuild was completed in September and performance testing was finished in November, putting the pad on track to support upcoming missions. Construction of the unmanned aircraft systems runway is progressing as planned, with tree clearing already underway. The $5.8 million in funding has been released and the Virginia Department of Transportation will manage construction, with site visits by contractors occurring in December and construction starting in spring 2016 for a planned debut of flight operations in the fall of 2016. The new runway has potential customers across NASA, the Navy, and other government and commercial entities.
