2. Overview
Through out my project I've attempted to represent a certain common stereotype of an age group.
My representation multiply from culture to education. An overall representation I've set towards
the characters are :
Teenager
Is amongst the younger in the group range, thus having passion and energy to release through
more active activities like Boxing. Her issue is portrayed as less intense and life threatening than
the others, yet her anger and frustration is easily triggered, representing teenagers with less
patience.
Bachelorette
Shes presented as neat and clean as someone who works should be. With clear indication she is
unhappy with the situation.
Bride
She is not oppressed as many may assume. shes first shown in modern clothes with a popular
style. This
focuses more of representing the culture stereotype of eastern conservative societies where a
women is better off married earlier.
3. Teenager
The age representation for the Teen character in my music video would be 18. Ive
represented this age as impatient and full of energy. To show this I've chosen her
escape activity to be boxing, which indicates the youth and passion she has for
exercising. When people think teenager they also think active but they also see
impatience. She is also shown as impatience through slamming her laptop, boxing, and
her emotionless face.
She is also represented as a mid to upper class teen, as shes fustrating over matter such
as university, whereas the lower class may not have the oppurtunity to reach hgher
education.
A female is often represented as fragile and incapable of violent activities or
impatience, but in this generation many perspectives and representation has changed.
This was my opportunity to represent females as more than a fragile girl, and rather
something more aggressive and intense.
Unfortunately i have not targeted sexuality as a representation through my product.
Although it is common for a female to be represented sexually through the male gaze,
I've taken a different approach to focus on more than what people see in a female.
4. Bachelorette
The age representation of this specific character would be 23-26, which is the common
age to graduate and move towards their first office job. graduating freshly from college
some habits may stay. I've chose eating pills, driving recklessly as this characters form
of escape to represent the issues that may stick to you even after college. Not everyone
is led to drugs or recklessness in college, but the portion that are exposed to these
matters are not represented enough. I felt it important to express that some peoples
form of escape is more harmful than other ways, that not everyone turns towards
something active or light.
Also considering her age I've represented her through clothing as neat and
responsible, with a blazer and a proper white collar shirt and a simple neat bathroom
surrounding, to create a theme to her life, that its black and white.
This could represent both the mid class and upper class in a sense that both classes are
known to work in a white collar industry. The upper class may have the finances but
according to studies they do suffer relative deprivation, feeling empty on spiritual or
other matters. This character represents the relative deprived classes, who have the
finances and education but still is deprived of something other than the materialistic
objects n life.
5. Bride
The bride is represented as 26 - 35 age wise. Its around this age were the social
pressures of marriage come through in a culture or society with in Pakistan. I did not
represent her as oppressed through religion as i chose clothing with fitted as modern
non conservative clothing. Although later on she's shown in a wedding dress confused.
Instead of oppression of religion i targeted the oppression of society and culture.
In a society thats moving forward everyday there is still the issue of pressuring your
kids to get married at an certain age, often with or without their consent. I felt that it
was important to represent this part of the culture which many find wrong and many
find right, its an on going debate. Through my video i show it as a confusion rather than
a complete wrong. The bride situation represents all working to upper class, as this type
issue is not only limited to a certain class.
