This WORLD Oceans Day: the tides are changing
In celebration of the United Nations World Oceans Day 2023
theme, Planet Ocean, the United Nations is joining forces with
decision makers, scientists, private sector executives, civil
society representatives, indigenous communities, celebrities and
youth activists to put the ocean first.
Programming will underscore humanity’s interconnectivity with
the ocean and illustrate its cross-sector potential. Global
speakers will also shed light on missed opportunities and
ongoing work to bridge gaps across representation, knowledge,
capacity building, and more.
WhatisUNWorldOceansDay?
2023UNWorldOceansDayTheme
Since its inception in 2008, United Nations World Oceans Day has
celebrated the ocean in recognition of its importance as the
sustainer of all life on earth. As the challenges to the
ocean continue to grow, so does the need to understand them and
mobilize globally.
Drawing in a global community through in-person and virtual
events and campaigns, the United Nations celebration has ignited
a groundswell, created an inclusive platform, and through multi-
stakeholder engagment has yielded impactful action worldwide.
