The document discusses sharing and settings in Salesforce, including organization-wide defaults (OWD), sharing rules, and territory management. OWD determine the baseline access and permissions users have to records they do not own. There are different OWD levels of access. Sharing rules extend sharing access to users in groups, roles, or territories, providing exceptions to the OWD. There are owner-based and criteria-based sharing rules. Territory management allows grouping customer accounts based on defined criteria using territory types, models, and hierarchies.

3. Organization Wide Default (OWD)
OWD stands for Organization Wide Default (OWD). Organization Wide Default settings are baseline settings in
salesforce specify which records can be accessed by which user and in which mode.
OWD determine the access and permission users have to the record which they don’t own.

5. Level of Access
● Private :- Only the owner can access.
● Public Read :- Every user can read and Edit the data.
● Read/Write :- Every user’s can read and edit the data.
● Read/Write & Transfer :- A user can read ,write and transfer. Here transfer means we can transfer
permissions and change the ownership.
Note: Only for standard object Lead and Cases non owner are allowed to transfer the ownership of
record.
6. Sharing Rules
Use sharing rules to extend sharing access to users in public groups, roles, or territories. Sharing rules
give particular users greater access by making automatic exceptions to your org-wide sharing settings.
Like role hierarchies, a sharing rule can never be stricter than your org-wide default settings. It simply
allows greater access for particular users.
7. Types of Sharing Rules
Owner-Based Sharing Rules
An owner-based sharing rule opens access to records owned by certain users. For example, a company’s sales
managers need to see opportunities owned by sales managers in a different region. The U.S. sales manager could
give the APAC sales manager access to the opportunities owned by the U.S. team using owner-based sharing.
Criteria-Based Sharing Rules
A criteria-based sharing rule determines with whom to share records based on field values. For example, you have
a custom object for job applications, with a custom picklist field named “Department.” A criteria-based sharing
rule could share all job applications in which the Department field is set to “IT” with all IT managers in your
organization.
8. Guest User Sharing Rules
The guest user sharing rule type grants access to guest users without login credentials. By creating a guest user
sharing rule, you're allowing immediate and unlimited access to all records matching the sharing rule criteria to
anyone. To secure your Salesforce data and give your guest users access to what they need, consider all the use
cases and implications of creating this type of sharing rule. Implement security controls that you think are appropriate
for the sensitivity of your data. Salesforce is not responsible for any exposure of your data to unauthenticated users
based on this change from default settings.
9. Territory Management
Territory Management is a system by which customer accounts are grouped based on a defined set of
criteria.

10. Territory Management
Territory Types : Territory types help you organize your territories by key characteristics important to
your company. Every territory you create has a territory type. Territory types are used for organizing and
creating territories only. They don’t appear on territory model hierarchies.
Territory model : A territory model represents a complete territory management system for your
company. Modeling lets you create and preview multiple territory structures and different account and
user assignments before you activate the model that works best.
Territory Hierarchy : The territory hierarchy shows a model’s territory structure and serves as its main
interaction point. Start from the hierarchy to create, edit, and delete territories; run assignment rules for
territories, and navigate to territory detail pages for more information
