Galileo was an Italian scientist born in 1564 who invented the telescope and discovered that the Sun, not the Earth, was the center of our solar system. He had three children and went to the University of Pisa. Though his discoveries contradicted the Catholic Church, he made important contributions by being the first to observe the stars, planets, and moon using a telescope and changing people's understanding that the Sun is the center of our universe, not the Earth.
