2. The Water Cycle
The earth has a limited amount of
water
The Water Cycle is driven by the sun
The water cycle or hydrologic cycle is a continuous
cycle where water evaporates, travels into the air and
becomes part of a cloud, falls down to earth as
precipitation, and then evaporates again. This repeats
again and again in a never-ending cycle.
3. The Water Cycle
This cycle is made up
of a few main parts:
Evaporation
Condensation
Precipitation
Collection
4. Evaporation
The heat from the sun
causes liquid water to
turn into gas (or vapor)
Everyday, tons of water
evaporates
The warm gas rises into
the air
5. Condensation
As water vapor cools, it
turns from a gas to a
liquid
FUN FACT
When a large amount of
water vapor condenses
on dust particles, a cloud
forms
6. Precipitation
When water in the clouds gets heavy, gravity goes to
work
Water then falls back to the Earth
7. Collection
When water falls back to the Earth, it may fall back in the
oceans, lakes rivers, or it may end up on land
On land, water will either soak into the earth, or it may
run over the soil and collect in the oceans, lakes, or
rivers where the cycle starts ALL OVER AGAIN!
