3. A Software Project is the complete procedure of
software development from requirement gathering to
testing and maintenance, carried out according to the
execution methodologies, in a specified period of time
to achieve intended software product.
What is a Software Project?

4. Project results
short - term outputs (immediate results of activities or
project deliverables)
Long – term outputs (changes in behaviour , practice or
policy resulting from the result)

5. Jobs versus Projects
• ‘Jobs’ – repetition of very well-defined and well understood
tasks with very little uncertainty
• ‘Exploration’ – e.g. finding a cure for cancer: the outcome is
very uncertain
• ‘Projects’ – in the middle!

7. What is Software Project Management?
• Software project management refers to the branch
of project management dedicated to the planning,
scheduling, resource allocation, execution, tracking and
delivery of software and web projects.
• A Project is planned activity , and it focuses on meeting
the objectives of project stakeholders.
• The aim of project management is to ensure that the
objectives are satisfied.

8. Importance of Software Project Management
Many software Project fails:
•Due to faulty project management practices.
•It is important to learn different aspects of software
project management.
So it is important,
To enable a group of engineers to work efficiently towards
successful completion of a software project.

9. Software Project Manager
•A software project manager is a person who undertakes
the responsibility of executing the software project.
• Software project manager is thoroughly aware of all the
phases of SDLC that the software would go through.
• Project manager may never directly involve in producing
the end product but he controls and manages the
activities involved in production.
