The student proposes to research the experiences of children during the Holocaust. They became interested in this topic after reading several articles about children's lives at this time. While the student does not yet have much knowledge on this subject, they plan to thoroughly research how children adapted to intense life changes and new situations, such as when one child pretended to be mute on a train. The student lists many questions they have, such as what conditions were like for children in ghettos and camps, if it was easier for children to escape, and how the Holocaust affected these children's futures. The overall research question is how the Holocaust impacted the lives of children in Europe.

Inquiry Proposal
The topic I’d like to inquire is the life for children during the holocaust.
After changing my mind several times and reading a few articles about what
children’s lives were like during this time, I decided that this is what was most
interesting to me; therefore I chose to inquire on this matter. During this time
period these children had been through an intense life changing experience, kids
had to learn how to adapt to their new lives during this time. Although there isn’t
much I know about this topic, I plan to immerse myself with data about the subject.
The way many children were able to acclimate themselves to new situations
they encountered at the time really interests me. For example, when Riva and her
siblings were riding the train and Riva pretended to be a mute to not arouse
suspicion of them being Jewish. I find it very fascinating how young children were
able to come up with a plan such as that to survive, among the many other
conditions they had to bear and were able to accommodate themselves to. It is very
intriguing how kids, who have barely experienced life, were able to come up with
different strategies to survive.
There is so much I would like to learn about this topic, such as: what was it
like being a child in the ghettos and camps?Was it easier for children to escape?

What about the children who became baptized during this time? Were the kids
shown pity since they were young? How did being a child during the holocaust
affect their lives in the future? These questions could be viewed from several
different perspectives. One way of looking at it is from non-Jews living in Europe,
did they look down upon these kids? Another could be the parents of the children,
did they try to keep them from knowing what was happening? Was any child
aware of what atrocities were about to happen in Europe?
With the many questions I have brought up, the main, overall question I
would like to inquire is how was the holocaust an effect on the lives of children in
Europe?
