CLINICAL SKILLS
I have performed successfully over 3600 general Orthopaedic and Trauma surgery cases inclusiveof
300 jointreplacement surgeries and more than 200 arthroscopic surgery.I haveperformed over 500
spinal surgeries (Discectomy,Decompression & Fusion,Scoliosis,Spondylolisthesis,TBspineetc.) with
good outcome.
PHILANTHROPIC WORK
 Founder director of a philanthropic spinal surgery global outreach programme ‘Operation
Straight Spine’ for spinal problems for poor and needy children in Eastern India at
Ramkrishna Mission Seva Pratisthan,since2005 with combined efforts from surgical team in
Allentown, USA and in London, UK. Founder of ‘SPIRIT –India”, an NGO to assist in the
treatment and care of the children in the developing nations who suffer from injuries and
disorders of the musculoskeletal system such as spinal or limb deformities, cerebral palsy
and other neuromuscular disorders). (www.spirit-india.org) We have successfully operated
150 under privileged children (55 scoliosis) and adults with spinal problems (deformity, TB,
spondylolisthesis) in the last 11years.
 Felicitated by Rotary Club of South Kolkata on 17th Feb 2012 for dedicated Spinal surgery for
the underprivileged in Kolkata under ‘Operation Straight Spine’.
 Presented as faculty ‘Deformity Mission Kolkata’ in GOP symposium at Scoliosis Research
Society (SRS), 49th annual meeting at Anchorage, Alaska, USA in Sep 2014.
 I was awarded Globus Medical Scholarship by SRS to attend the 50thAnnual meeting in
Minneapolis, USA in Oct 2015.
 Operations Straight Spine had successful campaign in Feb 2016 (12 surgeries).
 Organised ‘Hip & Knee walk’ at Newport, UK for WishboneTrustfor Orthopaedic Research
fundingin UK in Jun 1999.
Ramakrishna Mission Seva Pratisthan (Vivekananda Institute of Medical Sciences), Kolkata
 I have started the Spinal Surgery unitin this hospital since2011.I have performed more than
150 surgeries as charity servicefor adults & children for ailments e.g. scoliosis,

SURGICALEXPERTISE
Spine Surgery
 More than 600 spinal surgery (Discectomy,Decompression & Fusion,Scoliosis,
Spondylolisthesis,TBspineetc) performed with good outcome
Highlights in Kolkata (2011 - 2015)
Fortis Hospital
Spine Surgery
 I have treated severe spinal fractures with successful outcome. I was the firstone to
perform Cervical discreplacements for cervical disc diseasein this hospital.I performed
thoracic spinesurgery via both anterior and posterior approaches. The firstkyphoplasty
for vertebral fracture in Fortis hospital was performed by me. I have introduced
Minimally InvasiveSpinefusion in this hospital.Thefirstanterior retroperitoneal
abdominal fusion of lumbar spinewas successfully doneby me.
Bone & Joint Surgery
 I have performed more than 100 primary Knee replacements with 100% success (India).I
have performed for the 1st time in eastern India a 2ndtimerevision of Knee replacement
(Zimmer RHK with Tantalumcages and allograft) in a severely deformed Rheumatoid
arthritis patientwith successful outcome. I was the firstone to do the firstArthroscopic
Revision Anterior CruciateLigament Reconstruction surgery in Fortis with a successful
outcome. I have performed many complex jointreplacements for hip, knee and shoulder
with a successful outcome. A good example was an uncemented ceramic on ceramic
arthroplasty in a youngfemale patient with severely deformed hip due to ankylosing
spondylitis.I haveintroduced SCARF osteotomy for Hallux Valgus correction for the first
time in Kolkata (correctgreat toe deformity) through a Foot & Ankle workshop in 2011.
OSTEAL HEALTHCARE PVT LTD
 This healthcareorganization was developed with a vision to bridge the gap between
primary and secondary carehospitalsin semi-urban and rural areas. As a Founder and
Director of the organization,I was overwhelmed with the burden of Osteoporosis in
Eastern India. We aredeveloping the comprehensive services for preventing and
treating osteoporosis esp.in women. We arealso collaboratingwith local medical
companies to do monthly camps for screeningOsteoporosis in women and men in the
districts. Our team of doctors help in Identifyingand treating patients atrisk of fracture,
but who have not yet sustained a fracture, will substantially reducethe longterm
burden of osteoporosis. We educate the elderly with regards to the requirement of
physical exerciseand nutrition. We work in liason with medical companies to provide
home based treatment for Osteoporosis. Wealso providesurgical services for fragility
fractures likeHip fracture surgery, wristfracture reconstructions and spinal
vertebroplasty/kyphoplasty for pain relief.

attitude, in keeping with the principles of evidence based Orthopaedics. I am a guide to Post Graduate
trainees in Trauma & Orthopaedics for DNB and AssistantProfessor in OrthopaedicsSurgery at
Vivekananda Instituteof Medical Sciences,Kolkata.I have started a Spinal unitatRamakrishna
Mission Seva Pratisthan for the underprivileged.
Within in a clinical environment my teaching experience includes:
 Formative lecturing in Orthopaedics
 Informal teachingand trainingin wards and clinicsas a partof the curriculumin Orthopaedic
surgery for medical students
 Guiding colleagues (SHOs, Clinical Research Fellows and Registrars) in setting up research
projects
 Tutoring on a one-to-one basis for registrars taking Post Graduate examinations e.g. FRCS
(T&O) examinations (clinical and viva), DNB examinations
 Using journal papers as a trigger for further learning amongst colleagues
 Lecturing in Indian Orthopaedics & Spine Conferences and Orthopaedic Education Meetings
I consistently seek feedback from my teaching session to highlight possible areas for further
improvement in my own practice and methods.
Post Graduate Thesis guide

To improve my skillsI haveundergone a teachingcourse as a part of the core-curriculumatCardiff University. I havecompleted ‘Train the Trainer’ coursein London in Jun 2015. I consider teachingto be objective and am keen to instill in my students a critical attitude, in keeping with the principles of evidence based Orthopaedics. I am a guide to Post Graduate trainees in Trauma & Orthopaedics for DNB and AssistantProfessor in OrthopaedicsSurgery at Vivekananda Instituteof Medical Sciences,Kolkata.I have started a Spinal unitatRamakrishna Mission Seva Pratisthan for the underprivileged. Within in a clinical environment my teaching experience includes:  Formative lecturing in Orthopaedics  Informal teachingand trainingin wards and clinicsas a partof the curriculumin Orthopaedic surgery for medical students  Guiding colleagues (SHOs, Clinical Research Fellows and Registrars) in setting up research projects  Tutoring on a one-to-one basis for registrars taking Post Graduate examinations e.g. FRCS (T&O) examinations (clinical and viva), DNB examinations  Using journal papers as a trigger for further learning amongst colleagues  Lecturing in Indian Orthopaedics & Spine Conferences and Orthopaedic Education Meetings I consistently seek feedback from my teaching session to highlight possible areas for further improvement in my own practice and methods.
