Explain AARO
The library was given an opportunity with a new AARO format, which put the library before every AARO attendee (students and parents) and the session breakfast.
We decided to use our alloted time for a video. (Consistent and accurate information)
Our UX librarian was inspired by Char Booth's "Love Your Library" idea, and brought it back to SMU, to make it our slogan/campaign for the next year or so.
We decided to make this the theme of our AARO video.
Applied for an internal Innovation Grant to purchase gear to shot videos for the library
Explain items purchased.
B and H as our vendor
Dean McComb's gave the 2013 Connvocation speech. Many of her comments inspired the points we wanted the video to make.
you need to get to know the libraries and the library staff because, it might surprise you to know, not everything has been digitized and is available on Google or YouTube
and you need to do this before you have that 10 page research paper due. It is much better to have your go-to librarian already on your speed dial or BFF list.
working in the library is the best student job on campus – Plus we really like to have fun at our jobs – you might even get to hold a document or artifact that is 500 years old, such as a letter from Christopher Columbus.
get to know the library space – Club Fondy – the informal name for students who congregate in Fondren Library at 3am every morning – has a life of its own. And I can guarantee that there will be times when you will want and need to escape your dorm room.
We wanted to include a variety of people who could be relatable or useful to an incoming first year and their parents.
Narorrated by our UX Library, who students will become fammiliar with over the year
A current student who has benifited from using library services
The director of the art library
An Alum, and current Colophon member
And all of the AARO leaders, who would be instantly recognizable by attendees, explain what they love about the library
A planned and scheduled production time line. During the busiest time of our semester.
B-roll, student interviews, followed by alum and librarian interviews
Video release forms
Exterior and interior shots, multiple libraries, natural light/lighting, audio and tripod
Music/alternatives
What has not worked in the past: Not pre-planning. Not scheduling times to shoot. Run and gun. Shooting only in the summer. Outsourcing to those not as knowledgable about library goals.
Editing takes time. The more pre-production that is done the faster this portion will go
How do you want to deliver the final product? Options.
Different applications
Try not to get too fancy
This is where your story starts to come together.
